I hope you’re using a Norwegian net base layer. They are lighter than normal Alpaca or Merino but they manage heat and sweat better. Going from high exertion to laying in subzero temperatures doesn’t make sense in a traditional weave base layer.
Great video as always! It pains me to see you running and trying to keep a fast pace, knowing that in all these shots running to or from your camera on the tripod, that you have to go back on your steps each time!!! The life of a backpacking UA-camr.
I'm not surprised you were on edge, going out into bear country without the pink titanium spoon! What were you thinking?!?!
What would freak you out more?
1. Suddenly encountering a bear on trail
2. Having one answer you back "heeyy human"
No need to say hey bear. They already know you're there.
Hi Justin. Awesome video. Just a small suggestion. It's better to put something under your air pad to avoid punctures from the ground. The direct pressure from your body weight and also from turning from side to side while sleeping might cause the air pad to friction rub against a small sharp rock surface or whatever sharp object, like a frozen stick, that might be on the ground. It's the tiny details like this that can can ruin a fun trip otherwise. Other than that, great content as usual 😊
This was a great video, thanks for posting! I also love going lightweight even when it's a bit nippy, so it's great to see the solutions you have, especially that pocket tarp!
Sick vid! Really liked how you surfaced your decision making and were honest about the stuff that went well and the stuff that didn't go so well. I've definitely found non-enclosed shelters sleep a bit cooler, especially with any kind of wind. Thanks for sharing :)
I also bought a hoodless ultralight down jacket from uniqlo (from your vid) and have been loving it. I've paired it with a down balaclava and have been loving that system.
When backpacking, everything is solidly in pockets and not going to leap out. I wear a Spinlock inflatable life vest when doing deliveries on the water. I have a personal EPIRB and man overboard beacon and flashlight which are in a pocket, but I tether them with paracord so if they fall out, they are still on me.
I, too, keep my Garmin 62ST GPS tethered to MEeee, I almost lost it once & had to backtrack to find it. I, too, carry an ACR ResQLink PLB in a pant pocket for easy access & always on MEeee, never in or on my backpack.

Yep, put dummy cords on stuff you can’t afford to lose.
Love your videos Justin, I'd suggest you bring a disposable e-blanket and put it under your sleeping pad for some extra warmth. I've been doing this for years and haven't been cold yet. I usually don't go below mid twenties though using a 30° enigma.
Awesome adventure, thanks for sharing!!
I think with that shelter at that time of year, just adding a 7oz bivy sack to cut the wind would have made all the difference. Or, alternatively, a 10-degree Fahrenheit bag.
Looks like some solid type 2 fun! i'd like to get into fast packing shape again.
Thanks for the quick trip video......
Amazing views on Threepoint creek gorge. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Super light setup but that "tent" is a hard pass haha. Definitely not in grizzly country, I need that psychological tent barrier from yogi's snout. You're braver than I.
Amazing video I really enjoyed it. In Australia our biggest concern animal wise is snakes. We have the deadliest ones however if we had bears I would be freaking out big time. Your a brave man
Charged by a grizzly... Yarg! I've met black bears who ran off as soon as they saw me, and that was enough to freak me out.
Weren't you concerned about backpacking in bear country without your pink titanium spoon?
Justin, I’ve been dabbling in fastpacking and enjoyed shorts most of the year, with the cooler temps and winter around the corner, any recommendations on a lightweight pant that would work out? How did your hiking pants work out? Thanks!
Have you gotten to try the new Gossamer Gear DCF Whisper tent? Just wondering how it compares to your Zpacks tarp with its bug protection.
Great hike! However, a bit of a sketchy place for solo aventure. Anyway, you made it! Congrats
I'm not keen on that bear spray location. You reckon you could have it on the shoulder strap?
Ooooh, that's creepy!
I enjoy watching this type of adventure, but it's not for MEeee. I really want a tent for my shelter, Hilleberg Enan is my one & only.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
Purple pants
Outdoor Vitals currently lists the Skyline for $197 ($178 with membership) though you list it as $278. Is this an error or just future pricing? Either way, even $200 for a 20oz Robic nylon fastpack seems silly when the Aeonijie C9111 can be had for 1/4 the price.
Could be an error with currency exchange, as me & Justin are from Canada 🇨🇦 & our CAD to USD is CAD$1.34?
It was a currency issue :(
@@JustinOutdoorswhere in Philippines? My wife's from Laguna, but I have yet to see any beaches like ur hammock photo. Sorry, 6am Filipino time 😆
@@danielsingh9415 that was on a random beach off a dirt road on busuanga island. The only other people there were a handful of locals having a lunch party.
@@JustinOutdoors ah Palawan, I have yet to go there, how's ur Tagalog? I took a night school course, when I was dating my then girlfriend, and piano lessons, I bought her a sequencer/keyboard LoLz 😆 35 years ago 😎
What pants are you wearing bro
uhhhh. how did you survive without your pink titanium spoon? after you said that you didnt need a spoon i expected the worst things. Maybe you would have been warmer if you had brought it.
I wonder how much you hated the fact that you have to name your videos like that to get views. Great video Justin, this one was pretty interesting to me.
I should try naming my videos like that, its true if he named it "Overnight Backpacking Alberta Wilderness" or whatever won't bring nearly as many people as "Gone WRONG"
Can we agree the Hexamid, and any other shelter with no walls or floor, is not a “tent” - it’s a “tarp.” Also, a pocket for bear that leads to the bear spray falling out, instead of a secure but annoying Velcro pouch, is not a good use of that pocket.
How many of the same videos are you going to make??
New videos get promoted by the algorithm, even its the same exact topic, he HAS do redo the same topic over and over chase there's only so many videos on backpacking you can make...
Better than any video you've done...
No need to watch if you don't like it. I mean ... how much do you want for free?
Do u have any suggestions for video storylines? How about testing ur limits & gear at a car camping spot, but "falling" in a creek crossing, and all ur stuff getting wet, cuz u only prepped for rain? How would u survive that? Assuming ur far away, probably a Garmin moment, but hypothermia would come faster, and it wouldn't be long b4 ur hands were too cold to function, flick a bic, gather wood, tinder for a fire 🔥
I have a 180 hiking films from Vancouver Island to Colorado and back if you are looking for soemthing different.
