When they said the jadeite feels greasy, I was immediately reminded of a line from Kung Fu Panda, Legend of Awesomeness, when Mr. Ping visits The Jade Palace. The line he said is "By the way, did the cleaning lady quit? These floors look like they been moped with butter.". I get it now, it's the luster of the jade.
The quality of this episode eclipses the previous episodes from '17 & '18. Natalie's maturity and screen presence has grown so much. Of course, Chris is awesome as usual.
I just found your channel and now I’m like, “ i must learn everything now about gemstones and all things related” so thank you for inspiring me to learn something new.
Natalie has "SEEN SOME SCHIST!!" Sorry, I couldn't resist, lol... I love this channel. Thanks so much to her and Christopher for sharing their love of all things gemstones. It is contagious! Edit: Jones bubblegum soda or Fanta Orange..
Charolight I remember has a nice count of around 300 cpms. I'll double check some those samples again to verify. Wash your hands after handling radioactive material.
Black spinel needs an in depth explanation please. What does it look like next to other black gems / polished stones? Diamond, jet, magnetite, dyed onyx, ect. Pleeeaaassee.
I didn't know there was so many types of luster and was an important part in gemstones that gives them there shape and forms.🤔💎✨ It's a good learning experience. Thanks for letting us know. Good review.🙂👍💎
At some point, could you discuss star corundum rough and why the asterism affects both the direction and thickness of the stone? Thanks, and enjoying the vids!
Well, there are, but none are quite as sparkly (let alone durable!) as diamond. The only ones that come to mind are cinnabar and titanite. Cinnabar is an absolute no-no for jewelry. Titanite is a little more stable but you still need to wear it in a protective setting... and certainly not everyday. It's quite soft and does have cleavage planes. If you're into gem collecting, though... both are wonderful options! (cinnabar is tough to come by in cut gems though)
Strontium Titanate, a lab-created stone, is a good affordable example, available in several colors. Melanite, a black andradite garnet is affordable. You very rarely see it faceted, but small cerrusite specimens are also a good example of adamantine luster.
@@gems very interesting I wonder if it's the same black druzy found in sepatarian nodules from Madagascar (also known as dragon eggs). And I wonder if it fluorescences green when under uv because the egg I have does😁🤯
A lot of the Nephrite I pick up is opaque yet retains the "waxy" lustre, and many puritans refused to believe it was the same mineral as the gem grade stuff that makes the store shelves here in NZ, China and Canada. Putting the same ingredients together doesn't always create the same result!!
@@christopherclark5615 its immensely subjective. I personally go for the shades of blue, orange, brown, olive etc over the "pure" apple green. It hurts my soul when I see collectors dump interesting looking stones in favor of the tiniest gem grade rock.
I absolutely love what you do and I appreciate it. But when you talk you love to talk and I love to listen but I want to see the product more than you show it you say look and you hold it out and it's black and you bring it back and talk about it and there's no lights out front to illuminated when you do that. Take time to show the item even at the end whoever edited cut through bang bang bang bang bang bang different shots and you never get a good look at it so I would hope you would slow down a little bit and enjoy how things look and not just where they're from or the cuts xcetera thank you so very much
3:52 - what is said????, shoot the editor .... or at least deprive them of twinkies for a day Honestly, I stopped because she's stupefyingly cute, and then I find out she's smart and then they teach me stuff ... a good day overall.

same
Same too
Yea same
Holy moly, that kyanite gem. It's HUGE! And very clean for the species too, definitely not something you see everyday.
Unless you play a lot of Subnautica.
The editing and the quality of the shots gets better and better every vid! Personality chemistry too! Keep up the good work!💎✨🥤🥤

Guys I love you, literally then taught I had yesterday: I wonder if I should learn more about luster and how many types are actually out there.
Another gorgeous array of specimens! 😍😍😍
This bring great and happy memories of two science credits I took in University in Canada. They were Earth Geology courses.
I have watched and REwatched many of these episodes. THanks!
This one was super fun and helpful! Now I know why my new jade bracelet feels oily and it won't wash off :D!
One of my favorite videos you guys have ever done!
This was very informative! Thanks for giving me more material to info-dump on my friends, lol.
Excellent presentation! :)
This is my favorite episode... So many gems ❤

Oh man...I was hoping for a close up of Christopher's ring.

I so envy this part of your job!

Excellent info...loved the episode! Will be watching again!! Ok...2 sodas...root beer & a Coke!!!☺️💎💎💎
This was super interesting thank you. Also definitely a dr pepper or root beer float 🥤🥤
I love that you guys are so playful - it makes the videos so much fun to watch! 🥰 Really liked this episode ^^

Have you guys done an episode on Musgravite?
Is there any cheaper more colorful examples of adamantine luster
Well, there are, but none are quite as sparkly (let alone durable!) as diamond.

I meant more like synthetic options because as cool as natural gemstones are, I really only care what it looks like
@@Dat_Rainbow-Haired_Dude You could try synthetic diamond.

Maybe topaz....?
Very informative!
So informative and down to “Earthy”🥰
Your video was quite Vitrious,
Thank you.
What would you consider the luster of wolframite?
It can vary, but the finest wulfenite often have a sub-adamantine luster.
@@gems ok thankyou i was just a bit confused with a piece i have now im good 😅 was wondering why the luster looked kind of metalic
Wicked episode 👌
Just studied this in Gemmology
My deep green jade bracelet is fibrous. In moonlight it glows white. Magical.
Was anyone else wondering what the "rocky" (dull) specimen was? Sedimentarite? 😉
It is a geode that I haven't cracked yet. They usually form in clay so that's likely what the outside of the geode is.
I was hoping for a leaverite joke....🤣
Was that a botroidal hematite after the dull galena speciman? Or was galena but just in botroidal form?
It was actually goethite
@@gems very interesting I wonder if it's the same black druzy found in sepatarian nodules from Madagascar (also known as dragon eggs). And I wonder if it fluorescences green when under uv because the egg I have does😁🤯

This is why the nephrite and jadeite trade is so challenging, subtle differences in quality have a huge impact on value.

Malachite also has a silky luster in its crystalline form.
What was the adamantine yellow specimen towards the end?
Pectolite, page 93-94 of Sisk Volume 2 book. Love Larimar.
Why didnt u pick Tigers eye on the silky one?
What was the one. That you called this one?
Chris is baaaaaack
🥤🥤 get her the diamond water that Nilered made.
YES!! Love Nilered
What kind of luster does a moonstone have?
Please add English subtitle. So we students understand more
Which mineral is toughest than diamond?
Though not as hard as diamond, both corundum and jade are considered tougher than diamond.
i miss natalie so much
I need that jtv Mug XD
Io ho trovato parecchi campioni belli di Anfibolo

Cool awesome video 👍
Do you not believe in healing properties or something? Because one time i picked up a piece of sunstone and i got this bubbly warm feeling inside 😊
He sounds like Jeff Foxworthy

I was also wondering what it said. Listened a few times and I just couldn't figure it out.
"...like this hematite here."
Why the annoying background music--- a distraction.
