Because cross product of two vectors a and b= magnitude of a * magnitude of b *sin theta * n unit vector. Theta is the angle between two vectors. Here a*b*sin theta gives the magnitude and n unit vector gives the direction. since we know a quantity which gives magnitude and direction is vector. Hence cross prodect is vector.
