This was my favorite movie as a kid. Now, at 35 years old and a Class 1 Railroad Conductor it really hits me as to how much this movie meant to me. Never give up…
This was my favorite book as a child and theme of perseverance and belief in myself engrained deeply from it. I didn’t know they made it into a movie until it came to mind tonight, excited about bitcoin, which influences the opening of new crypto that will save my life. I’m takiking it as a sign! I also loved, loved, Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang. Both influenced my life greatly. I’ve been an entrepreneur my entire life since preteen. Disabled by nerve gas, the fighting spirit has served me welll By the way, The Little Engine That could was released 1930. I was born 1963. I must go watch the movie now! The book is GREAT to instilll strength of character, discipline, fortitude, posativity, resourcefulness, strategy, determination, endurance, and of course, belief in one’s self despite naysayers and NEVER giving up. I can’t think of another book that remotely instills and teaches so much to stay with a child through their life - except the Bible.
When I was a kid I used to watch it all the time at my grandmas house on VHS. Now I'm 24 and I watched this on my phone. I can't believe I forgot about this.
I was born in 2004 and i remember watching this and now im 14 and doing my dream playing football and racing. This was the video that told me i could do anything
I still can't believe I remember this, I never had the tape, but I've watched this when I was in Pre-K in Colorado before moving to Missouri. I also read the book, I feel like this movie should be released on DVD/Blu-ray, other than VHS. As a matter of fact, this is something that should be watched for anyone that is wanting to stand out in the crowd, sense of empowerment, and individuality among the main characters. Also, with the female lead, this is a good influence for any girls that have a sense of independence.
I’m almost 32 playing this for MY Baby Son!!!!My Gram (whom is still alive and is now 101 yrs old) used to play this for us at her house in the 90s growing up and wow does this make me tear up with amazing old nostalgia and now new memories to share with my Son❤️💕❤️
Small world! I used to watch this at my Gramma's too! Actually staying with her right now. That's what inspired me to look up this old gem. She doesn't know what happened to the VHS she used to have. I salute you, fellow 90's kid! Congrats on your little boy! Hope he's happy and healthy!
There is just something about this movie that's hard to explain. It feels surreal to me, because it's one of my earliest memories. When that book opens up in the beginning, it feels like that's the story of your life beginning. Then you have dreams, take on challenges and overcome hardships just like Tilly did. That probably sounds silly, but this movie meant allot to me growing up and it still does.
I think this must've been one of the first movies I ever remember watching too; I must've driven my parents absolutely batsh** playing the VHS over and over again. I watched this movie randomly the day before I turned 13, so in a weird way the book at the beginning also reminds me of the end of childhood and the beginning of who you're gonna become. Strange how stuff like this melds with your perception of the world.
As a young boy I loved this movie beyond words. It was my favorite movie for so many years. I still remember crying in pre-school because one of the kids made fun of it. I am a reasonably well-adjusted adult now. I haven't even thought about this movie for at least 15 years. But my mom brought it up today and it I decided I would look it up for old-times sake. I am so glad I did. It touches my heart just the same all these years later :)
Jibreel Keddo same feeling and the worst is that i have been trying to find it for such a long time, asking my mum and grandma about this movie. We even went to the old owner of the vhs videoclub. I'm from Argentina and every time I was looking for it Thomas the train was appearing in the search results hahah so cool to find someone that shares that same feeling for a movie that encourage me as a little kid. Now hitchhiking around the world as an adult i can see the deep impact that a simple movie of not even half hour, made on my personality.
I was born in ‘91 and the book was one of my absolute favorites growing up. I was super excited when my parents bought me this movie on VHS! It was one of my favorites. And I totally remember it being longer than a half hour. 😂
This movie came to my mind the other day and decided to watch it in certain scenes. I remember watching this over and over on the VHS tape when I was in grade school. This movie has always had a special spot tucked away in my mind, but when I revisit it as a grown adult, the life lessons ring clearer, and truer even more now. It might sound clichéd, or corny to some people, but I still enjoy watching it. Never give up when the mountain seems too big in front of you and when others doubt your ability and strength! ❤
I agree. The Little Engine That Could, Lionel Great Railway Adventures, There Goes A Train, and Thomas The Tank Engine summed up what I watched as a kid.
I think this was one of the first little movies i ever watched. Was born in 1990 and i recently watched a video of a snowplow train, which triggered an ancient memory of this film. How amazing its on youtube, and with 3 million views. Great that others are watching it and showing it to their kids. Im an actor and writer and this movie brought me to tears. Its like this movie is ingrained in my work ethic - with little Tillie believing in herself, one chug at a time. She overcomes not only others telling her she cant do it, but random obstacles nature throws at her along the way, even burying her. Finally, she gets a hug from her bird-friend and says "one more try". The number of times ive said that after hundreds of auditions where ive been rejected...it brought me to tears. To the creators of this, if youre reading, thank you. You created an incredible piece of art that people, consciously or not, cherish dearly.
I'm 19 years old and this is the first time in years that I have seen this movie. Memories came flooding back to me especially since I took a ride on the little engine herself at Bryson city on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad back in the early 2000s it was a glorious time. But it wasn't until 26:12 when Tillie blew her whistle that tears came down my eyes. Oh how time flies I'm very happy that we have the railways of crotonia now other wise I would never have remembered that wonderful movie today.
Ahhh... the nostalgia of my childhood... My family had this movie on tape and my siblings and I completely wore it out from watching it so many times repeatedly!
4:45 *"CONSIDER IT DONE OLD MAN"* now that's a proper engine right there. Farnsworth was my son's favorite character in this film when he was 5 year old back in the early 2000's.
Too bad his way of talking to toys was more jackass than properly understandable, then again it could've been interpreted as a way how kids see adults doing important things.
I’m 21 now and I used to watch this on repeat at my grandparents house every weekend and when I saw the book in an old picture I had to watch it now once again and it never gets old
I was obsessed with this movie in the early 90s. One of my oldest memories! This movie is so special to me it reminds me of my mother and my childhood home, really brings back some great memories
I remember watching this classic in pre school. That was over 15 years ago. We didn't have the luxury of watching it on UA-cam on a projector with audio through the classroom speakers. We watched it on a old vhs tape on a heavy television on a roller cart. Never in my life back then did I imagine I could watch the same movie on my phone
The nostalgia this carries is crazy. Thank you so much I forgot all about this it's been almost 19 years since I've seen this and now stumbling across it in conversation with friends and little pot and a good sound system, the music and voices floods my brain with the earliest memories I can recall in my early childhood. It's haunting. Really, thank you for adding this to you tube. I now remember so many memories I almost forgot about because of this. Haunting.
I'm 25 as well. This movie occasionally occupies my memory but I've avoided looking into it for several reasons. Glad I looked back at it now. I don't know how old I was when I last watched it, but it had to have been no older than 6 or 7, but something tells me it was even longer ago than that.
I loved this book and this movie because it showed the power of not letting your negative thoughts get to you before you try something, I just love the moral of the story. It amazing how all of the other trains were so negative and not willing to helo the toys, but there was 1 single train who was different and she didn’t let her negative thoughts get to her, and she was thinking that she could help the toys. I love this story, great job :)
Let me just say a few good things about the movie: What Makes This Actually Good: 1. The Plot: It doesn’t deviate from the source material that much. In fact, the only time this does happen is to build suspense, and even that can be excused because the climax was fun in a lot of ways! 2. Characters: Each of them act just like the book, but have an extra element of character about them. For example, we get to see why Tillie accept the job so easily, despite having no other reason. 3. PETER CULLEN AND FRANK WELKER: Before you ask, yes, these two did play Optimus Prime and Megatron back in G1 Transformers. I don’t know. I think it’s interesting that they show up here. Back then, they may have been more common in the industry than they are now. Peter himself even had an appearance in fellow Hasbro movie, MLP The Movie (1986). On the matter of Frank, you may notice he voiced five characters. It doesn’t take much to know that he is talented with voice acting, as we know him for a lot of thing he outside big bad guys. It seemed only natural that he would play two characters in the same movie! But yeah, this was just my excuse to talk about this childhood masterpiece, while also fanboy about two talented voice actors!
i remember seeing this in elementary school i immediately fell in love with trains like thomas and other trains. I’m 25 and i still enjoy loving trains.
Came looking for this film after I had the memory unlocked after watching the new animation that just came out called "The Brave Locomotive" I highly recommend checking it out - it screams a modern retelling of this beautiful masterpiece that I remember watching over and over again on VHS as kid. You really can't beat the nostalgia and magic of something like this timeless classic for those lucky enough to have experienced it 20+ years ago. Whether it was the Scholastic book or on the screen, it still manages to capture the imagination of us 90s kids :*)
i also watched that one- i think the fact that "the brave locomotive"s train-character is also a small blue train, plus the two vultures sitting there, the steep hill, etc. -there were many things from that animation that reminded me of this old movie, which i have very fond memories of :3!
Perhaps the best version of this story ever put to the screen. Oh, and did anyone else notice how it's literally just the parable of the Good Samaritan but with trains?
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I watched it literally every day. I was a train nerd back then. Still love this little movie and will definitely be showing it to my kids someday.
Was only a year old when this came out. One of the very first movies I watched as a kid the song "I think I can" and when Tilly broke out of the snow, blowing the whistle at the end still gets me to this day.
Tower: Little Engine (Tillie) where did you come from? Little Engine (Tillie): I just got back from the real world. Tower: what? Milk Train (Jebediah): the tracks do exist Little Engine (Tillie): they sure do milk train. I just took the toys to the real world on the old tracks milk train told me about. Caboose (Bruno): he was now back for it. Let me tell ya. Tower: wait a minute you’re saying you went over the mountain. Nobody can do that Not even me Milk Train: apparently our newest hauler just did. Shiny Passenger Train (Farnsworth): not bad for a little squirt. Freight Train (Pete): mine impressive, pizza chicken. Caboose (Bruno): I should’ve seen her.
13:13 I love how the snooty rich train was trying to stop and had that look on his face like "I'm trying to stop, why are these people pestering me for?"
I'm 31 now, this was my go to movie as a kid. I haven't seen this in years 😁 I agree with everyone else posting, seemed waaaay longer than 30 minutes back then. 😅
I used to see this movie all the time on VHS when I was a kid. Now I am 21, and I just discovered this video today. I'm seeing this movie for the first time in probably 13 years!!
The boy kept faith just as equally as the train. For his mom had none. He continued to believe. The train showed up right in front of the non believers. That is power. Holding on to faith when others have none in you… I am 30 and I watch this every year. To remind myself that do what I want is worth it. Even when faith in others isn’t given
I remember watching this all the time in daycare! I just recently rediscovered it and it's just as great as I remember it! The Little Engine That Could speaks volumes to me and my personal life more than I previously thought! Always being overlooked, underestimated, and told that I couldn't, but always going for it! I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a 25 year old man and I cried rewatching this after all these years.
I’m almost 26 and my grandma would put this on at her house. I would fall asleep to this movie on VHS almost every Saturday night for several years. Brings back a lot of great memories.
I saw this in 2003 when I was 4 and I look back at this video as a reminder. I was born with Autism and struggled in school. People implied to me that I would never be someone, but the more I heard that, the more I wanted to prove them wrong. Now I’m in college on my way to receiving my masters (and maybe one day a doctorate) in psychology to become a guidance counselor. Remember that you and ONLY you are in control of your destiny. Stand up for what you believe in, follow your heart, and don’t look back. Those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future 🙏🙏✨
I was born 98. My grandma always played this for me 02-05. I just found this recently and I forgot so much but at the same time I remembered so much. I miss my childhood
So many memories come flooding back. That opening music.. So nostalgic.. t brings tears to the eye. I remember being scared of parts of this movie! The art style was so gritty.
Three steam locomotives who call themselves "A very IMPORTANT engine": Gordon & James from The Railway Series and Pete in the 1991 version of The Little Engine That Could.
As a kid I would have never imagined watching this movie on my own computer over the internet. This is still the BEST VERSION EVER by the way. Someone needs to HD remaster this. Video and sound.
I'm trying to figure out the same thing... Maybe it has something to do with letting go of old socially reinforced negative opinions of things we truly loved as children, but ultimately had to abandon -- And as an adult we're able to understand that it's ok to be a kid, so there's like this cathartic release after all these years of self-suppression and negativity...
Some rare versions do make the Little Engine male ("The Royal Engine" comes to mind as an obscure example), but most incarnations make her decidedly feminine (and in the two films, of the tomboy variety, voiced by Kath Soucie as Tillie in 1991 and Alyson Stone as simply Little Engine - aka Peanut Roaster, Shunter, Kid, etc. from the bigger engines - for the 2011 CGI remake that has our title blue heroine actually *gasp* doubt her abilities and even almost give up when the villainous Nightmare Train surprisingly convinces her to hand over her cargo - real world boy Richard & the living toys, who could only talk in the land of dreams - when she breaks down due to a busted boiler and water leakage, only for Richard and the toys to escape the Nightmare Train's cargo hold car, repair Little Engine back to working order, and be off back on their way. Of course, when the Nightmare Train sees this, he flies into a rage and tries to knock Little Engine off her track, which is attempted murder in a kids' film (but I guess, it's no different than the mountain itself seemingly trying to destroy Tillie in the 1991 film, only for her fighting spirit to spark her back to life so she could finish her mission, but except more excessive because it's another train trying to kill one of its own, because one train is good and has a noble heart, whilst the other is corrupt and evil, wanting to cause misery and woe in the world), only for her to pull the whole switch-the-train-tracks gag on the Nightmare Train (sending him into a lowland location with a broken track with no way out that's surrounded by mounted walls on all sides, thereby making any sort of escape essentially impossible, unless he were to back out the way he came in, which he couldn't do, since he came in on a downhill incline and it's practically impossible for a train to reverse itself back uphill once it's started in a given direction, which is why they need enough track to get them from one point to the next, as they cannot go in reverse well once they start going forward).
IanXPikachu Yes there’s actually three adaptations. The 1991 version (which people consider be the best one) The 1963 version ua-cam.com/video/Qe-J6O3zuBM/v-deo.html And the 2011 version ua-cam.com/video/aqdFbLu_Cvc/v-deo.html (which I think it’s the worst one, I mean look at Little Engine, her design is ugly and her look doesn’t match in the book or the 1991 version)
I watched this back in Kindergarten during "Ace" class, I don't know if they have classes like that anymore but we watched this and this film totally felt like a dream because nobody remembers it now, but now I'm a Senior in high school and I'm honestly so happy that this is on yt for anybody to watch, this really takes me back to the stress free days..
I think she went around mountain, or through a tunnel at the foot of the mountain. Those are the only other 2 ways of how she got back home. To be honest, I understand your feelings Al.
Wow. First time I've watched this in I don't know how long. Used to watch it all the time growing up and now that I'm 28 I realize that it's still cool. Really felt a sense of nostalgia watching this. Thanks for posting.
This was my favorite movie as a kid. Now, at 35 years old and a Class 1 Railroad Conductor it really hits me as to how much this movie meant to me. Never give up…
Like ME :D i come toHungary, and watch this movie my own language, but this is perfect moovie, good soundtrack and verry cute cartoon movie!

Tell me about it. It felt like more then an hour. Man I wish it was longer then an hour.
Gerbillfury3 yeah

I'll be 29 in a month and I remember watching this as a child, this is one of my favorite movies.
It seemed longer then 30 minutes back then though 🤣🤣
How old were you?

I couldn't believe it was only 30 min now lol

Mdcddfccccccccfgf xxccffgbbg
Man I first saw this in preschool I was either 3 or 4.. imagine never seeing the ending and remembering you never saw the end
The soundtrack alone was one of the reasons I make music in my spare time. The score is amazing, even after two decades of obscurity. Amazing!
Does anyone else get emotional at the end credits? Not just because Tilly makes it but the fact this brings back memories!
Yes absolutely
I'm actually crying right now.
I'm in tears jus finding this
The music is beautiful
Tears running down my face.
Anyone else going on a nostalgia joy ride through UA-cam
metalman20 all aboard the nostalgia train
Me
Oh yeah alot but it was the good old days of television

Oh man. I'm ready to tear up watching this again. This was my favorite movie as a kid.

SAME!
probably as a youngster, we had so much more time to spend on different things, that even only 30 minutes felt like ages :3
nowadays, it's nothing
or X-act Lee 20 mins. Only!
This movie came to my mind the other day and decided to watch it in certain scenes. I remember watching this over and over on the VHS tape when I was in grade school. It really hits dofferent as an adult
Right in the childhood...so many years later, and I'm still brought to the brink of tears...

Bruh for real. This was my favorite "movie" growing up I could have sworn it was a 2 hour film
God the soundtrack for this movie is unreal
0:07 - 0:18 in the opening's track hits me right in the feels every time.
The score itself needs a release.
probably the best rendition of this story
Ahhh... the nostalgia of my childhood... My family had this movie on tape and my siblings and I completely wore it out from watching it so many times repeatedly!

I remember watching this with my grandfather as a kid. I can still hear his laughter when that old yellow train snores. Good memories here.
I’m 21 now and I used to watch this on repeat at my grandparents house every weekend and when I saw the book in an old picture I had to watch it now once again and it never gets old
I'm not crying....you're crying 😭
What an excellent trip down memory lane!
We're all crying 😭
Aye😭
I cry every time the snow falls on the train and her little flame starts glowing!!! Ahhh memories
How old were you?
I enjoyed this as a boy and I still do about 20 years later.
How old were you?
Something about that opening soundtrack that is just so timeless, brings all the nostalgic memories back from the younger days.
I remember the bridge part being a lot scarier...
Me too.
Same here that creepy ass mountain freaked me out as a kid
Same here. I remember that part of the movie really bumming me out.
i know it scared me shitless as a kid LOL
lol same i used to cry
This randomly popped up in my feed. I loved this as a kid, now I'm in my 30s with a son of my own and will now show this to him when he gets bigger.
I was obsessed with this movie in the early 90s. One of my oldest memories! This movie is so special to me it reminds me of my mother and my childhood home, really brings back some great memories
I wish they'd release this as a DVD. This was an absolute classic for my family and me. Still gives me the childhood nostalgic feels something fierce.
Ah! The memories are flooding back to me!!!
Holy crap! It's been so many years since I watched this on vhs as a kid back in New York. I miss being a kid.
I know how you feel
now go listen to the shining time station theme.
How old were you?
This movie came out 8 years before I was born, but my grandparents had the VHS at their house and I remember watching it a lot
God I’m 17 years old and just watching this again For the first time in years and the memories are already coming back to me.
God I feel so old.
17 is young
Anyone else thinks this should get an Blu Ray/ DVD HD Restoration?
I do
I second that.
Jacob Fisher yup
It should have been years ago.
*YES*
Such a powerful message. Believe on yourself, even if no one else does.
Why does the scene at 24:20 make me so emotional. That scene and music 😭. Loved this movie so much as a kid..
i used to own this on VHS...wish i still had it. thank god its on here :) a true classic
I'm 19 and I remember very well watching this in my Pre-K class in Colorado before moving to Missouri in '03.
I REMEMBER THIS!!!!!! I used to watch this at my grandma's house!!!!
How old were you?

I loved this book and this movie because it showed the power of not letting your negative thoughts get to you before you try something, I just love the moral of the story. It amazing how all of the other trains were so negative and not willing to helo the toys, but there was 1 single train who was different and she didn’t let her negative thoughts get to her, and she was thinking that she could help the toys. I love this story, great job :)
Let me just say a few good things about the movie:
What Makes This Actually Good:
My mind exploded when I found out Scott Menville, aka Robin from Teen Titans, voices Tilly’s bird friend in this.
Don't forget Scott Menville (Robin from Teen Titans) as Chip
i remember seeing this in elementary school i immediately fell in love with trains like thomas and other trains.
I recalled this movie being like an hour longer??? Time is different

dang that was a fast response...
@@AJJJJJJJJJJJJ lol this is faster
how are you so fast?
Perhaps the best version of this story ever put to the screen. Oh, and did anyone else notice how it's literally just the parable of the Good Samaritan but with trains?
One of the best pieces of train media out there, and this is coming from an Awdry fan.
I grew up watching this animated film. Love the characters.
It's good to hear the voices of Kath Soucie and Frank Welker in this movie.
and peter cullen?
Christopher Smith I'll say, I love Kath Soucie.
I like Kath Soucie as Tillie!
This brings me back. My babysitter had this film and I watched it countless times as a child. Good memories yo.
Me too 🙂 I always liked the silver fancy-antsy train
Kath Soucie may not be one of my favorote voice actors, but Tillie has to be my favorite role in her voice over career.
The score slaps. And story is beautiful. Overall a great film.
Brings a lot of memories back . I could cry to this
Those are some powerful chugging sounds. Almost hard to believe they're just some dude whispering the cadences.
Milk Train (Jebediah): the tracks do exist
Little Engine (Tillie): they sure do milk train. I just took the toys to the real world on the old tracks milk train told me about.
Caboose (Bruno): he was now back for it. Let me tell ya.
Tower: wait a minute you’re saying you went over the mountain.
Nobody can do that
Not even me
Milk Train: apparently our newest hauler just did.

the music is amazing
You're not kidding.
Probably the only good thing about this cheesy movie, along with how cute Tillie is.

The boy kept faith just as equally as the train. For his mom had none. He continued to believe. The train showed up right in front of the non believers.
That is power. Holding on to faith when others have none in you…
I am 30 and I watch this every year. To remind myself that do what I want is worth it. Even when faith in others isn’t given
Such nostalgia! I remember this tape being at my church and I would often borrow it to take home with me to watch it!
I remember watching this with my preschool class back in 2001 after our teacher read us the book.
I remember watching this all the time in daycare! I just recently rediscovered it and it's just as great as I remember it! The Little Engine That Could speaks volumes to me and my personal life more than I previously thought! Always being overlooked, underestimated, and told that I couldn't, but always going for it! I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a 25 year old man and I cried rewatching this after all these years.
this makes me cry because I remember my childhood

How old were you?
I’m almost 26 and my grandma would put this on at her house. I would fall asleep to this movie on VHS almost every Saturday night for several years. Brings back a lot of great memories.
I absolutely love the music 19:00-20:30. something about it. i love it. i still have it on VHS. im glad i got to see this again.
At a young age, this was one movie I loved watching.
My childhood. It was magnificent. I still love this so much.

Gordon: “Farnsworth would get along well with me and Spencer.”
Spencer: “He certainly would!”
As a kid I would have never imagined watching this movie on my own computer over the internet. This is still the BEST VERSION EVER by the way. Someone needs to HD remaster this. Video and sound.
Wow. This has to be the earliest show I can remember watching as a kid.
nostalgia is strong in this one
the song brings soo much happiness back
Thomas: “That other little blue engine can be very cheeky sometimes.”
Edward: “Yes. Reminds me of a little tank engine who wanted to see the world.”

I feel old already without being old.
We had the same childhood lmao, throw in An American Tale as well or whatever that mouse movie was called
I used to watch this movie all the time and I remember it really freaking me out at times
Can somebody tell me why when I watch this thing I get tears?
Nothing personal its still one of my favorite childhood half hour specials.
To me watching this film about my favorite childhood book is like seeing an old friend that I did not see in Years.

The little engine is sooooo cute, I love her!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

this was an accident, that's cool I thought the same when I watched this when I was a kid, LOL!!!!! 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

I was showed / shown this movie in pre school... Man... Talk about memories... Wish we could turn back time... To the Good ol days...
this is still the best version of the little engine that could, everything else is inferior. lol
Doctor there are other versions?
This is the only one I know. Are there others?

Yes there’s actually three adaptations.
The 1991 version (which people consider be the best one)
The 1963 version

And the 2011 version
ua-cam.com/video/aqdFbLu_Cvc/v-deo.html
(which I think it’s the worst one, I mean look at Little Engine, her design is ugly and her look doesn’t match in the book or the 1991 version)
Can’t deny u there
