Thanks for the video, was helpful for the order in which to connect stuff. To be honest things must have changed a little in the year since you posted, I use a basic micro2usb-c cable, as soon as I connected my S9 to the remote (already connected to spark) a dialogue box popped open and asked if i wanted Go4 to open automatically every time the connection was made. Said yes and it's been perfect since.
Hey, Joseph! Long time, no see....so it was a pure delight to find you this morning on YT. I was one of the hundreds of Apple Distinguished Educators who got to have a blast with you at our ADE Insitute a few years ago a Full Sail University. I'm still using many of the special tips you gave us back then. Gosh, was that really about 10 years ago? Happy memories, too, of that great group photo you made of all of us -- you were up on the ladder...and the photo makes me think of a tilt-shift lens, due to the great care you took in giving us a special image. Hope to see you again someday. Take care and keep up your great work (still missing Aperture, though!). --Dr. Larry S. Anderson, ADE Class of 2000 -- Tupelo, MS
Wow that’s awesome, hi Larry! Thanks for saying hi. That was an awesome ADE for sure. It’s been a really long time since I did one of those. I miss them!
Hi just watched your video on otg cable what you did a year ago I use the cable on my spark and mavic platinum and achieve greater distances and better signals. Great show regards Irvine(Portsmouth UK)
well I'm new to this I have the drone for like 2 days I haven't got it more than like 5 meters away from me but there is always a bit of lag on the video feedback for somereason so I'm saying to connect it with the cable and hopefully fix the problem great video anyways ;)
10:29 you mentioned scratches on your monitor..thats because you got no propeller guards on the spark, imagine if it was a kid around..thats why I keep guards on my mavic pro and spark safty is a guarantee when it comes to these drones..
OK, I just got a new Spark this week. The RC would not link with the Spark Drone as you showed by turning on the drone and the RC at the point when you turned them on. The instructions actually explained it clearly. You turn the drone on, turn the RC on, Press the button on the drone battery until you get one beep, then Hold the Flight Pause, the Fn and the Custom button on the upper back of the RC simultaneously and hold until the controller beeps and the yellow lights on the drone flash slowly at which point the red linked LED on the RC will change from red to solid green then you can plug the phone in and start the DJI Go 4 program. Don't forget to turn the phone to airplane mode and turn on the wi-fi.
Keep in mind this video is over a year old an DJI is notoriously bad at including helpful instructions. Sounds like things may have been updated since then. Thanks for watching though!
I'm always using the cable.. To me a hardwired device is always better than a wireless.. But when starting up the quadcopter and radio... Im originally an RC Heli pilot and the proper sequence for us is the radio first then the heli or plane... That for fear the reciever on the craft gets a stray signal and sakes off etc... That way the radio signals already looking for the craft when it's turned on...
I prefer using the OTG cable on my Spark. The less wireless you use the less wireless interference there is. Then the better connection and streaming video we get 😁
Google "how to install older versions of aps to android"....download DJIGO4 version 4.1.15 or lower...install on android device...fly your drone...and lastly disable auto updating aps, or you will be right back where you started.
Finally! Someone who is articulate and explains at last how to setup a wired connection. ALL other blogs and UA-cam clips leave you hanging as to how to do it. Thank you very much PhotoJoseph!
you’re welcome Mark, and on a side note, I appreciate you calling this “articulate”. Most people just tell me to make shorter videos and to also talk more slowly ;-) hehe SOMEONE gets me!!
Hi! Nice video! It actually stands for "Over The Ground' cable, as opposed to OTA which is 'Over The Air'. Basically, it's just a wired connection instead of wireless. You'll often hear people incorrectly calling them 'On The Go' cables. They've been around for years, and usually used for accessing mobile devices such as phones. Great channel - you seem to put a lot of effort into it.
Thank you! Funny, I’ve seen people write “over the ground” and then see a ton of others “correct” them. Your explanation is purely logical though so I believe YOU!
@@pholtaus is correct. However, Corvus may be an old ground radio guy and there is an acronym we used to use back in the day for radio waves OTG was an 'Over the Ground' wave vs. OTA which is 'Over the Air' waves.
Trying to figure all this out with my Mavic Mini I just got. I got "RC not connected to mobile device". This was with my LG G6. Sooo... I am waiting for a refurbished iphone 7 to try again? Any & all suggestions welcome. There is not much info out there about this OTG Cable thing - glad I came across your site! I am subscribing & TY for the info on your video!
LOL I read "Mac mini" at first and thought "why the hell is this guy trying to control his drone from a Mac?!"… ah, MAVIC MINI, got it. OK, so I don't have that drone and this video is pretty old, but from what I've been hearing, using this cable is really not necessary any more. But if you're having connection issues I'd definitely recommend hitting up the DJI forums.
@@photojoseph Thanks... i bought a iphone 7 (iphones seem to be favored??) and after spending hours (i have never had a iphone, &i know now why) i got it going. Took me 45 min to get into "Apple's" app store to download the DJI Fly App...omg! Like trying to get into Fort Know... seems iphones and Apple are 99.9% about SECURITY. I've found being in airplane mode helps no matter what. It's the only way to shut off the phone antennas and you really want to minimize interference. I'm not saying you HAVE to do this in airplane mode, but in my experience, it's been better.
When using OTG cable be aware that you will either be charging the phone from the RC or the RC from the phone, either way, one goes flat pretty quick. I amnot sure but I have read that there is a correct end of the cable that has to be at the phone end, anyone else have this experience? I agree with other comments about the speed of talk. This is a problem with most UA-camrs, it sounds normal to the presenters, but to those of us watching and trying to learn and take things in, it is frustrating to have to rewind and replay.
hi there, well today Im using my new OTG cable with sparky, no lost connection problem during flight but.....I did lost two infos on the screen that is battery and aircarft status.......any idea?
Hi question, what if you accidentaly looses the otg connection on the rc does the spark innitiate rth? Or will you may re plug it and may take control again? Im using an android phone.Tia
That’s a great question. It should initiate RTH once it doesn’t get the connection back in whatever the default time is (30 seconds I think?). Sounds like a good test. Go to a big open space, fly it to the other end, unplug and see what happens!
@Photojospeh, I bought an OTG cable (micro USB to Female USB port), connected it and was able to fly my spark but the the drone information like battery life is not showing. Raised a ticket with DJI and got an answer that OTG connection is not supported. Where did u get the cable from
The link to the cable I have is in the video description. Are you on Android or iOS? Others have reported battery info not being transmitted too, and I think they were all on Android. Check the rest of the comments here?
PhotoJoseph yes. I am using Android Huawei mate lite. Reason I use the OTG is bc my phone doesn't support 5GHz wifi and so it doesn't connect to remote at all on wifi
I dont understand: I should swich on Spark, wait 10/15 secounds for Spark conect to remote controler, I dont use wifi. I use otg cable, without wi fi conecttion (Spark Rc controler wi fi) Am I work this or I conect spark i phone with wifi?
I haven't used the Spark in a while now, but if you follow the steps here it should work. Of course this is quite old now so things may have changed. Sorry I can't help more!
Helo, thanx for the video..Why i cant connect my Remote and Device at the same time..or my device connect with Spark, or Remote, on WiFi ? Help pls. i want to fly Sparky on both :) thank by advance
My spark will connect good with the OTG or Wi-Fi but like I said I just think it is safer with the OTG. First spark only had 12 flights and that was back in July think that was a software or firmware issue.
My Spark and remote are taking to long to talk to each other and either end of my OTG cable will not fit into my phone I ordered the one that I'm supposed to use for phone and remote or Spark but it will not fit my phone what can I do and what do I need to do I had cutting the cable that I thought I was supposed to and I really don't want to spend another few dollars to get another cable to work one in will fit my phone and the other into the the remote or Spark is there something else I can do
I have never had a single problem connecting iPhone to RC wifi. I do always have the antenna up on the RC when connecting wirelessly. I noticed in your video the antenna are closed. Can that make a difference???
My phone finds the RC WiFi but won't connect to the phone. When I attach the OTG following the directions the connection is great except, I have no battery info...Can't fly without battery power indicator.
I have an android , latest appversion, what happens when i connect the otg is it switches to 2.4ghz, no obstacle avoidance, no battery percentage change and no transmission signal is shown pretty worrying...
oh sorry, I thought I had that in the description (now added) Firmware versions when recorded: iOS app: 4.2.4 Aircraft: 01.000.0900 Remote Controller: 01.00.0400
Mine, from day one, will not work with my controller. Everything is connected fine, but THE SECOND the motors start, the phone says “aircraft disconnected.” As soon as I stop the motors “if it will respond.”, it works again. The drone also stops responding to the controller, wether I am using the phone or not. It works fine if I fly it with just my phone. I can’t find the problem. My controller is basically useless.
I'm brand new to the spark, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I believe you actually have to link/pair the controller to the craft. Even if you are already linked, you may just want to redo the linking. Hope this helps.
I have had zero success with my spark, it was a big waste of money, gps disconnects all the time, won't even fly 10 feet away.... I have not tried this cable thing but it's my last resort before I set it on fire 🔥 lol thanks for the tip!
I’d say your unit may have a problem; the Spark isn’t a waste of money. It is a fantastic little drone. Also be sure you are up to date on the firmware; their updates have made a lot of significant improvements. Good luck!
Mine connects via Wi-Fi to the controller 1st time every time without fail . I bought an OTG cable and have used it with an iPhone 6s,7 and ipad mini and to be honest it makes no difference to anything so I've just gone back to using Wi-Fi again
I understand that with an apple cell phone, battery will last longer because wi-fi drains the cell phone battery and if you have 3 batteries for your Spark, you cell phone battery may not last.
This is my biggest complaint with the spark I just spent 30 minutes out in the hot sun trying to get this dam WIFI to work and it doesnt I've had only one day out of 4 days flying the spark where I didnt have to reset my WIFI and today it just wont connect and I have the OTG cable but I cant get it to work at all so If I can get the cable to work I will just stay with using it. I'm using the Samsung S9
Yeah, I only have two batteries and both are up to date. I get that firmware error about every other time I connect this way. I just ignore it and fly!
Click on refresh in the wifi settings and the spark wifi will show up. Also enable usb debugging in developer options on android. Airplane mode stops your phones broadcast to cellphone tower. You can still turn on wifi n bluetooth but not data if you didn't already know that. Also stop talking so fast, lol
Agreed...like why in the heck would you waste our time answering a question about the Mavic when this is a video about the Spark. The Title is about the Spark, isn't it? So "anyone" that clicks to watch the video is doing so to find out about what the title of the video says it's about......Aggghhhhh!
It’s a LIVE show. I answer related questions. I’m sure if you were watching live and asked something related but that didn’t fit into the title and I ignored you, you’d be pretty upset.
Juste more assertive and not so dithery, you need to take constructive criticism in order to make your channel better, take heed or continue down ur path, after all what are comments for if people can't say how they feel, as I said in another comment, good stuff etc, you just need to waffle less and script it, write it down if it's hard for you to come up with words
I encourage constructive criticism. I request it. I benefit from it. However, "VERY ANNOYING YADA YADA RAMBLE" is not, in any stretch of any imagination in any universe, constructive criticism. It's just being a rabbit turd in a chocolate chip cookie. Something you think is going to be wonderful, only to realize it's just a piece of 💩. So tell me, how's your LIVE show going?
That’s a hell of an attitude. The Spark was the first drone of quality to hit its price point. For many, myself included, it was a first drone and a superb entry into the world of flying cameras. Not everyone can afford an Inspire as their first drone.
Just because yours doesn’t connect doesn’t mean the entire line is garbage. Maybe you’re is defective or broken. Or maybe its user error. I have a problem with discounting an entire product as “garbage” because a user can’t get it to work right, while thousands of others (myself included) have. I loved the Spark. Great first drone for me.

Lag between real-time and what you see on screen? That’s normal; you’re transmitting video over WiFi and it’ll never be real-time.

What’s the difference using ipad mini 4 with cellular and non cellular? Or does really require with cellular? Or ipad mini wifi 4 only is fine?

What is when the cable don't work after Airplane and WiFi are off??? Please Help! After I switch Cable in nothink Happens no connection sucks.
Are you on Android? Lots of discussion about it here; scroll around the comments.
PhotoJoseph yes Android
Did u ever sell that iphone7?
I did, sorry 😀 Hey have you seen my “2018 year in review” video? I just released it… ua-cam.com/video/bWFOgD9zfzY/v-deo.html
Good luck!
Otg still d best option even in latest version
Can I just use a USB micro cable with an adapter?
I don’t think so. These seem to be special but I honestly don’t know why.
Is there anyone know why my dji spark doesn't tell me how many satellite I got and it doesn't show the battery life . Please help
If you’re on Android, several people here in the comments have reported that this info is NOT available when flying tethered
You think the cable is the problem?
Mine connects via Wi-Fi to the controller 1st time every time without fail . I bought an OTG cable and have used it with an iPhone 6s,7 and ipad mini and to be honest it makes no difference to anything so I've just gone back to using Wi-Fi again
I think this got a lot more reliable since I made this video.
I understand that with an apple cell phone, battery will last longer because wi-fi drains the cell phone battery and if you have 3 batteries for your Spark, you cell phone battery may not last.
That’s bollocks. iPhone battery will far outlast three Spark batteries.
why my OTG with remote spark NOT working...
Because android
This is my biggest complaint with the spark I just spent 30 minutes out in the hot sun trying to get this dam WIFI to work and it doesnt I've had only one day out of 4 days flying the spark where I didnt have to reset my WIFI and today it just wont connect and I have the OTG cable but I cant get it to work at all so If I can get the cable to work I will just stay with using it. I'm using the Samsung S9
Electrified , Try turning of your data connection, it works for me 🤪
Thank for the reply, I just use the OTG cable now, with that cable the range is about 1 mile
Are you sure that message isn’t for you battery! I’d run it once and check because that’s what I do for each batter and then it doesn’t come up again.
Yeah, I only have two batteries and both are up to date. I get that firmware error about every other time I connect this way. I just ignore it and fly!
I've noticed the one time I tried OTG with my Android phone the obstacle avoidance wouldn't stay on for my Spark. Has anyone else had this happen?
Ouch! Not for me, no
yes. also missing w/ OTG is bat status and GPS info...only tried on bench, don't want to fly in this state...
The hell with wifi, dji should keep ocusync on all drones. I always use the cable, I tried wifi and almost flew away. Otg for life
I like it
Otg on the go
I'll buy that phone for the right price
power up remote first, wifi to remote first. then power up the drone. problem solved. but i want my cable back and can't
5:00😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ramble ramble.
Talk less do more
Since DJI doesn't recommend using the OTG cable I don't use anymore.
That’s fair… however the new Mavic Air actually comes with OTG cables for every phone type. So, maybe they are changing their mind?
I CAN USED MY SPARK WHITHOU CABLE USB !!!!
This is much easier to listen to if you set the speed to 0.75 !!!
You talk to much and are all over the place.
Oh, and the Mavic and the Spark aren’t that different. It’s not like I started talking about grilled cheese sandwiches. Relax.
Noriega. You are one rude son of a bitch.
Jeez JUST GET ON WITH IT!
Spark
I agree with the comment below talk less get to the point more
four and a half minutes in and you still haven't got to the point.
Over acting annoying
Zzzzzzzxzzzz get on with it dude!
VERY ANNOYING YADA YADA RAMBLE
VERY ANNOYING YADA YADA COMMENT
I'm touring regarding carcinogens but yh You can bring the horse to the water but you can't make it drink
Buy a better phone, instead of your Apple crap, I have a cheap Android and have no problem with the Wifi connection
Labla blo bli blo blo jada jada ffs 18nminutes jada bladadada
If you own a spark , get rid of it. They are garbage
That’s a hell of an attitude. The Spark was the first drone of quality to hit its price point. For many, myself included, it was a first drone and a superb entry into the world of flying cameras. Not everyone can afford an Inspire as their first drone.
@@photojoseph if it doesent connect, nothing you said matters.....
@@photojoseph not meant for kids or peple with no flying skills. start with a walmat drone lol lol
i have owned them all. the best little drone in its class ! hands down.
Can u use a regular charge cable rather than otg
No
