The thing i love about darrius is that the kombatant actually interacts and helps him depending on each moves he occurs, like his grab command and his spin dash attack along with you helping him get a boost for the jump attack.
Hard agree. That was funny, and funny fatalities are by far the best-- they brought back Jax and Cyrax's hilarious fatalities, it's unfortunate they didn't do it for Darrius too.
As someone who uses Darrius with Rain and Raiden, I love him. Both characters have great buttons and can end most touches into a darius setup. Sometimes i just let darrius out in neutral and go into the back punch and kick as it gives armor. Darrius is fun.
I love Rain/Darrius if I’m not up against a zoner. Holding forward kameo can set up a 50/50 with a low or whirlpool, and if you time it right, you can call his neutral in after geyser to end combos with his extended combos
Im hoping that in the future we can "switch" the Darrius Kameo with a Johnny Cage Kameo when pairing them together. Imagine playing as Darrius and calling out Johnny for these Tag Team moves
10:34 I think people online hate fighting Sub-Zero because of MK11. Against someone with a terrible connection, that 9 frame forward 2 overhead was a nightmare to deal with.
I just realized that Dairou/Havik now has the role Darrius had in the old timeline: an anarchist who caused lots of death and destruction for reasons. Darrius now just... Kinda exists.
probably will get more exposure in the next mk title. they just wanted to introduce the obscure 3d characters into mainstream. a lot of mk1 content points towards orderrealm and chaos realm making center stage next game
You can create a HTB situation with Darrius and Sindel's low hairball. She doesn't even need to get that close. Ending a Sindel combo with B23->special is always safe, even against Cage's wake-up shadow kick (although he might kick your kameo)
I cant express how much fun I have with Darrius, I do his forward kameo when people get block happy he does an overhead launcher from behind after he flips. Its such a sneaky setup ive pulled on many crafty players. I do use his 2 meter neutral tho for the cmd grab chain
A lot of people complained about the recent nerfs so early in the game lifespan. But the thing is, it will help people go and look out for what the others kameos can do. People were too focused in Cyrax that they completely forgot about the other characters. Kung Lao is still strong, but not as strong as Cyrax
I wasn't interested in Darrius, but I knew that such a video from you is fun for sure. Now, I got both of having fun watching the video and getting interested in Darrius as well. I really like watching "rare" characters and kameos. Keep it up 💙👌🏻
I've been using Sub-Zero and Darrius since launch, but I almost exclusively use the kameo meter for the tag-team swing kick to get more reach, deliver modest chip damage, and cover scenarios where I think the opponent might end up behind me and I want to knock them away. Truly casual tactics! 😂🎉
I've always been a fan of Darrius ever since he debuted in Deception. I hope he becomes a playable character in MK1 or hopefully in the next MK game. I love his alternate costume from Deception!
I like Havik with Darrius the most. People will justify spending all their resources for Reiko to get something like 40-50% but won't justify using all of Darrius and ONE BAR for Havik. His b221+3 before the patch led to 45% and 50% if you managed to land bf1 beforehand. He could confirm the neutral Kameo off bf2 and either follow up with bK fK for LOADS of damage or bf2ex for a scary wake-up mind game. Darrius gives him insane corner carry off db4 K bK FK which is doable off any BnB that ends in db4. And he can combo off his grab for about 22% with a bar which isn't amazing but it's an option. Lastly, he can actually set up Darrius if he gets a crumple with db1ex which isn't too practical WITH Darrius but it is with bf2ex bf2. Instead of scaled damage you can do that for a potential non-scaled follow-up. His corner BnB even now still does a ton of damage and like I said can end with Darrius optimal ender (K bK fK) or K bf2ex. Plus b2K24 gives a high enough state to do a fK set up that is a good mind game off his best string. Not to mention 1150hp.
I've really liked Liu Kang/Darrius honestly. Because Liu Kang doesn't really need the help I kinda just use him for a few odd end combo extensions and grab extensions, but i'll switch to Kung Lao, or Scorpion if I need more help but Darrius is my go to though simply because he's fun to use!
I used Darrius as my first Kameo choice with Li Mei. It had very mixed results. The best setup for him in my experience at the time (it's been a few weeks) was calling him out during the animation of chain reaction (bf4). When timed correctly he'll extend the combo and setup the low/Oh hard to blockable. And. We can get 20% off of it regardless of which hits first. Unfortunately. Plenty of times I've had the timing be wrong, my opponent jump out of the situation, or aggro me out of it.
Very surprised you didn't mention Darius/Shao. Darius' 2 bar kameo allows shao to combo off his axe overhead, his b3 1+3, his back throw, his command grab, and even lets you combo meterlessly off his db3 for huge damage in the corner. And darrius' forward kameo paired with shao's already great mix while in axeless makes the shao/darrius paring super fun and rewarding.

Im honestly surprised with how little people talk about it cause an armored command grab paired with a OH combo starter and a low combo starter. And with darrius, that command grab gonna end with a 40% combo
I’ve been a Shao/Darrius main since the game dropped. I get what you mean that the darrius kick is very expensive, but I think it pays off on characters who get the kick after a 350~ combo and then cash out the hard to block setup with a 450~ combo. On the flipside, characters who can use the kick into the setup after a 350~ meterless combo and make another 350~ meterless combo is also something to take in mind. Additionaly, with Shao in particular the end of the combos usually end with the command grab which takes some time to execute, making it so that half of the bar is already up once you finish the combo. Overall my favorite kameo so far by a landslide. Excellent video!
Smoke has alot if set ups with his spin kick such as his (b2,3,kameo,4) which then leads into a stun that can set up into his (F1,2,1+3, into enhanced smoke port combo.
Yep pretty much all of his strings can be hit confirmed for a full combo with Darrius and back throw leads to a combo aswell. You can also do a few HTB's ending a string into Darrius kick then B2 into flip or F3 into flip then another HTB with his overhead after the flip. Been using it day 1 since I never liked Sareena kameo

And that's without even going into lag switch cheaters. I know it's sad, but it's true. Anyway, excellent video once again, goes to show even further how much depth MK1 has with various characters and Kameos.
Last month when the game came out, I took notes on how and what each assist did and the ones that stood out were Darrius, Goro, Stryker, and Sektor. Stryker might have the second most assist options in the game with close and far grenade bombs, a built in low/overhead baton strike, and a weird arrest restand that doesn’t combo but denies the opponent any wake up options. Goro has more but he uses various ranged upward punches, punch-walk, the stomp, and a low command grab for safety and combo extensions/starters while Stryker has a built in 50/50 and a behind-the-opponent stun that is difficult to react. As for Darrius, his assist options are technically all a single combo string that you can pick and choose what you want which makes him feel like a character that only got as much attention as a base roster character to become a single assist character (there more fluidity than a simple command).
I use Darrius with Ashrah. She can use the overhead kick after 21, but I use it after 21, df1, f2. It doesn't technically combo into it, but it does catch the opponent on the wakeup. Darrius is also good with Ashrah because you can combo his spin kick from her throw for 26%.
After knockdown her back 3 could break armor and create the low overhead situation and can get guaranteed 3 dark orb thingies then do the set up again but back 3 1 now bonces into a special. With meter could combo with df3 after back 3 1 bounce, or just back 3 without the orbs. Or do a 2 2 for the low instead of back 3. Also maybe you can delay the overhead from Darrius and combo into it with Ashrah's throw?
Darius seems like someone who is waiting to be broken. One thing I will say for the geras players the flip kick off of F44 is not a good plan. F44 jump cancel 21 land into 122grab (string) is more damage and a clock and is SUPER new player friendly just male sure you land the 21 in the air at the peak (or close to it) so the third hit of the string lands.
Iv been playing reptile and darrius and it’s so fun after a lizard barrel roll in the corner you can get a full set after and use him when going invisible set up something I haven’t seen anyone else do

Idk why people are mad when someone picks Sub. Hes super readable so if you make a mistake thats on you not me. I been yelled at over picking Sub which is stupid learn how to play the game or shut up.

10:24 This are the same reason I stopped playing fighting games online. And also any competitive multiplayer expirience, because how toxic people can be. I do not need a random steanger to trigger depression and anxiety in games i enjoy. So i stick to single player or playing with friends
I found a shang setup for this a few weeks ago. Ending a bnb into the flip into forward 3 in old form is a free back to back. The problem for me is opening people up to begin with. Ive really doubled down with the zoning since so many opponents can just low block through most of his up close pressure. Even if i go hard with throws, it seems people would rather just eat 120 dmg than risk neutral ducking.
I use Darrius with Raiden. He's great for when you don't know how to extend Raiden's ex command grab. Or, if you can time it good, you do to the regular command grad into roundhouse.
I main scorpion darrius. He makes a good combo ender with K,B+K,F+K and can reset the combo with that overhead kick. And if they block the overhead kick, they’re at least open for a throw.
Darrius is insanely underrated I’ve gotten to demi god with liu kang / darrius he’s very fun to use and no one expects the synced combo having super armor since no one uses him. Please people pick darrius you won’t regret it.
I expect Darrius is designed as a "momentum" assist, where if you're good at playing neutral, you can simply extend that advantage into a gamble that could lead into another combo. Nobody's arguing his usefulness, in that regard- The problem is that he lacks *any* utility, outside of that advantage state. You can't start combos with him unless you land that slow launcher kick, he can't assist with combos unless you're playing a few specific characters, and he offers pretty much nothing in neutral. Compared to other options, he just doesn't do anythint unique enough to warrant picking him, save for that spin kick
Tbh the only reason i havent tried darrius is because i dont play a character that can utilize all/most of his moves/set ups...someone encoraged me to give geras a try...so that combo would def be something i would want to use cuz i have yet to see anyone use geras/darrius
I've been playing raiden with Darius. I can get 45% with one bar and kameo meter. I also like to use Darius kick on raidens grab and follow up moves for 21% off s grab
The only Kameo I use is Darrius... not because of his usefulness (he's great mechanically/technically), but just the love of the character's design. Wish he were playable. Will be using him until Tremor is released (and hopefully if: Drahmin, Jarek, & Kira are added)
10:24 it's because being frozen is so tilting. I don't condone toxicity, but I can sympathize with those people because Sub-Zero's freeze just puts me in a bad mood lol
Except that Sub-Zero's Ice Ball is super slow in MK1 even from full screen, and Deadly Vapors can only be useful after already starting a combo. Not to mention that there are other chars with stunning moves like Scorpion's Spear and so own. If they get mad by Sub-Zero but not other chars it's not only weird in a really bad way but also hypocritical.
The best character that can do this is Nitara-Darius ... Nitara Guarantees a 35 percent on the hard to blockable... Because nitara can actually combo of her sweep .... So you chose to block darius delayed launch.... You are getting combo lainched by nitara sweep into ex quick taste... So you are loosing either way... The only problen with darius is his other move the spinny spin kicks isn't really useful so in tough games where you wont be getting punishes... You can literally play the whole match without him coming in... His kameo archetype.. is to be big plays for big damage ... Not several spammable plays for smaller damage like kung lao or Sonya
I wonder what the design philosophy for Darrius was. More so then most characters. Why Kameos do what they do genuinely makes sense, right? They're pretty straight forward for the most part but even gimmicky weirdos like Shujinko are pretty obvious where they come from. But Darrius? If there was ever a character that you could tell me was a troll, that they just 100% made up for MK1 and are just pretending is from an older game it's this guy. I have zero memory of him from Deadly Aliiance or Deception from back in the day. But putting that aside why tag team moves? On top of memory wiping myself of his existence and I also forgetting their being an MK with some kind of tag team mechanic? Was Darrius in MK9 and famous as a powerhouse of the tag mode? My memory definitely isn't that bad. So why did they pick this guy as the avatar for this style of Kameo in particular? Was he just so forgettable that they felt it was fair game to do something entirely new and interesting, while still offering a piece of nostalgia as a wrapper? Or is there something in Darrius' past that suggests tag teams moves are his gimmick?

Although I do love 3D characters from Deadly Alliance and Armageddon, aside from Havik, I really didn't care for Deception newcomers, so when I saw Darrius in the Umgadi trailer I was disappointed that he was chosen over a lot of the characters that haven't returned yet, however, because he pairs so well with Reiko, I actually like Darrius now and pick him more than I ever had before.

It's bizarre that they nerfed Darrius' damage. Doing double kick combo used to about 250 on its own which made it quite a cool damage ender.

So Stryker and Kitana was my main team, but then I started using Darius and I just say, he is the better Kameo to use, he’s dope with my kitana

If they are up or neutral blocking the flip kick just delay it and low poke them

10:24 This are the same reason I stopped playing fighting games online. And also any competitive multiplayer expirience, because how toxic people can be. I do not need a random steanger to trigger depression and anxiety in games i enjoy. So i stick to single player or playing with friends
I found a shang setup for this a few weeks ago. Ending a bnb into the flip into forward 3 in old form is a free back to back. The problem for me is opening people up to begin with. Ive really doubled down with the zoning since so many opponents can just low block through most of his up close pressure. Even if i go hard with throws, it seems people would rather just eat 120 dmg than risk neutral ducking.
I use Darrius with Raiden. He's great for when you don't know how to extend Raiden's ex command grab. Or, if you can time it good, you do to the regular command grad into roundhouse.
so this video gave me the idea to play geras/darrius, and my god the synergy. im talking 100% sequences with full meter.

I main scorpion darrius. He makes a good combo ender with K,B+K,F+K and can reset the combo with that overhead kick. And if they block the overhead kick, they’re at least open for a throw.
Darrius is insanely underrated I’ve gotten to demi god with liu kang / darrius he’s very fun to use and no one expects the synced combo having super armor since no one uses him. Please people pick darrius you won’t regret it.

I expect Darrius is designed as a "momentum" assist, where if you're good at playing neutral, you can simply extend that advantage into a gamble that could lead into another combo.
Nobody's arguing his usefulness, in that regard- The problem is that he lacks *any* utility, outside of that advantage state. You can't start combos with him unless you land that slow launcher kick, he can't assist with combos unless you're playing a few specific characters, and he offers pretty much nothing in neutral. Compared to other options, he just doesn't do anythint unique enough to warrant picking him, save for that spin kick
Tbh the only reason i havent tried darrius is because i dont play a character that can utilize all/most of his moves/set ups...someone encoraged me to give geras a try...so that combo would def be something i would want to use cuz i have yet to see anyone use geras/darrius

I've been playing raiden with Darius. I can get 45% with one bar and kameo meter. I also like to use Darius kick on raidens grab and follow up moves for 21% off s grab

The only Kameo I use is Darrius... not because of his usefulness (he's great mechanically/technically), but just the love of the character's design. Wish he were playable. Will be using him until Tremor is released (and hopefully if: Drahmin, Jarek, & Kira are added)

Sindel and her banshee scream should pair well with Darius.

10:24 it's because being frozen is so tilting. I don't condone toxicity, but I can sympathize with those people because Sub-Zero's freeze just puts me in a bad mood lol

Except that Sub-Zero's Ice Ball is super slow in MK1 even from full screen, and Deadly Vapors can only be useful after already starting a combo. Not to mention that there are other chars with stunning moves like Scorpion's Spear and so own. If they get mad by Sub-Zero but not other chars it's not only weird in a really bad way but also hypocritical.

I love Darrius but I just hate how expensive his set ups are and then they take so long to recover
The best character that can do this is Nitara-Darius ... Nitara Guarantees a 35 percent on the hard to blockable... Because nitara can actually combo of her sweep .... So you chose to block darius delayed launch.... You are getting combo lainched by nitara sweep into ex quick taste... So you are loosing either way...
The only problen with darius is his other move the spinny spin kicks isn't really useful so in tough games where you wont be getting punishes... You can literally play the whole match without him coming in...
His kameo archetype.. is to be big plays for big damage ... Not several spammable plays for smaller damage like kung lao or Sonya

I wonder what the design philosophy for Darrius was. More so then most characters.
Why Kameos do what they do genuinely makes sense, right? They're pretty straight forward for the most part but even gimmicky weirdos like Shujinko are pretty obvious where they come from.
But Darrius? If there was ever a character that you could tell me was a troll, that they just 100% made up for MK1 and are just pretending is from an older game it's this guy. I have zero memory of him from Deadly Aliiance or Deception from back in the day.
But putting that aside why tag team moves? On top of memory wiping myself of his existence and I also forgetting their being an MK with some kind of tag team mechanic? Was Darrius in MK9 and famous as a powerhouse of the tag mode? My memory definitely isn't that bad.
So why did they pick this guy as the avatar for this style of Kameo in particular? Was he just so forgettable that they felt it was fair game to do something entirely new and interesting, while still offering a piece of nostalgia as a wrapper? Or is there something in Darrius' past that suggests tag teams moves are his gimmick?
Only thing Darrius is missing in MK1 is his helmet and bike.

Lol I enjoy seeing a good sub zero "people hate fighting him" why bait the slide punish. Read the overhead, punish, down 1 jail into plus on block/get that combo damage if they dont respect it. grab, zone rinse repeat
Although I do love 3D characters from Deadly Alliance and Armageddon, aside from Havik, I really didn't care for Deception newcomers, so when I saw Darrius in the Umgadi trailer I was disappointed that he was chosen over a lot of the characters that haven't returned yet, however, because he pairs so well with Reiko, I actually like Darrius now and pick him more than I ever had before.
