Watching your video made me so sad. I thought about the families living out their lives normally the day before the flood. It would be so crazy to lose everything like that. The government making them move their houses or abandon them is so foreign to me. Can you imagine the revolt that would happen if the US government told the people on the Texas or Florida coasts that they have to move their houses because hurricanes happen every season?!?!? Holy moly! There would be a civil war over it. Great video! -Heidi
Doors In Time yes it is a sin they had to just up and move. Some of them homes are still in better shape then some other people's homes. Yup there sure would be a war on down south of that happen. Thanks for Watching and commenting see you tonight.
The government should be sued for allowing them to build there in the first place. It's like Vancouver being built on a flood plain, so large that it encompasses Chilliwack to the East, and Bellingham in the State of Washington to the South. Prime farmland because it was river bottom at one time.
they did nothing, trailer courts have sold the land out from under them and now they have to move or abandon homes they spent a lifetime paying for. flood zone housing is banned for any new construction but they can put a road next to a river and try to tax the people into paying if it gets washed out. if you think the insurance company is being too harsh in this they are not, a flood zone house might cost more in insurance but they will try not to pay unless the home is destroyed and these do not look destroyed. the home owner wants the insurance money and they will use that to pay off the debt they carry and still have a good nome to live in, entitled people always seem to get away with this kind of stuff. is it huberus or is it just good financing.
Yup it's a little crazy how Mother Nature works but I think it was a smart move.... I'm just glad I got to see it before some of them got taken down or moved to there new lots.
Yes. 95% of them were moved, first having the heavy bricks taken off the house and replaced at the final site. The others were demolished. This was due to a flood in 2013 (homes were built in a flood plan and designated flood zone). The builders never thought there would be a devastating flood that would wipe out an entire community. DUH! This was the 100 Year flood that they never thought would happen this early.. Homes were auctioned off with the missing information that one would have to MOVE the home to a piece of land that the bidder owned. Cost of moviing some of these homes was in the $60,000 - $90,000 range plus more. This was the first area I photographed when I moved to Calgary in 2013. Thanks to my cousin's story of the area. High River and Okotoks (where I moved to) are now thriving towns, with homes and communities being built every month. Now people want to move out of the city of Calgary due to high rent and home prices, and live 30 minutes away, in places like Okotoks and High River. They were significantly compromised (sacrificed) and are full of toxic mold on the inside. I am surprised they haven't been demolished yet. Could be legal battles with original owners and the mumunicipality.
Not odd at all. The government bought them out because they were in a floodzone. Later the government auctioned the ones that were not too damaged and full of mold off and the new owners had to move the houses to new locations
It was said that the railway trestle on the north side of High River was a contributor to the vast flooding there in 2013. Trees/logs would jam up against the trestle which would cause the river to back up some. There had been smaller floods in previous years, but not as bad. This was the last straw for many and it was decided that the unused bridge was to be removed and scrapped, Oct 2013. I went with an associate a couple of weeks after the flooding and we did some photography (documenting) around the area and it looked like a war zone. We met some RCMP officers cruising around keeping a visual for trespassers and looters. It wouldn't have surprised us if there were surveillance cameras set up throughout some neighbourhoods.
The rains that fell in such a short period on the mountains were the cause not log jam’s! There was just way to much water fell that the ground could not absorb hence the biggest flood in recorded history around this area of Alberta
@@Canadiantrucker696 - I didn't say the log jams were the cause, but were a contributor. Even if there wasn't a log jam on the bridge, there would have been flooding, but maybe lesser in size? Yes, it was frozen ground plus an overabundance of rain (mountain snow melt runoff) that caused the huge flooding, but the trestle had to go. Likely the geoengineering weather modification was orchestrated to create a “natural” problem, so that the government or rcmp/csis could claim a justified reaction to come and intrude around High River to monitor the cleanup while getting unfettered access to hundreds of homes and unlawfully confiscating law abiding citizens firearms etc. The solution was to portray helping, when it involved information gathering on high river and its population etc. The Hegalian Dialectic its called.

@MrSpongie1 Wow, that's just awful. I'm in New Brunswick, we have regular flooding but not in the last few years, surprisingly. It is so damaging. The last really bad one was in 2018.
this is in Joe Clarks' home area and old riding (Prime Minister and long time Member of Parliament in Canada). A Conservative area for sure, but the RCMP took the opportunity to BREAK IN to boarded up homes and grab the long guns. What??!! Alberta is basically the Texas of Canada when it comes to gun Rights! THAT is an interesting story.
The government bought out all the homes and part of the requirements I guess was the yards were to be kept cut so that when they went to auction they would be able to get top dollar although I am pretty sure some of them were sold around 50k. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed my video.
No, they suffered the same amount of damage Also the brick had to be taken down. Then clean every brick by hand or put new brick on. One of my sons cleaned bricks for one of those houses in its new location. The people who bought ut wish to preserve the original brick and put it back on :)
This place is in high river, alberta canada. People was move out by goverment into different location due to flood. I mean as a filipino from a country that used to a flood it was crazy.. Volcano eruption, surely. But flood, no way..😆😆😆😆. Sounds wacky to me..
Looks like a well established neighborhood why not repair and rebuild the neighborhood? Makes no sense just to abandon the place over a 100 year flood. People here live on the ocean and they get flooded on average once every 20 years and they don';t run off and abandon their Homes. Crazy!
Well I think they are worried for another huge flood to happen is my guess. but yea I think it floods more often the once every 20 years... and it's really close to a river.
I believe all of them were sold in at an Auction? Not 100% sure but the guy that I thought might have been security said his son had bought his back from the insurance company? Thanks for stopping by.
What is going on in Canada, too many neighborhoods are being abandoned and bulldozed and sometimes the homes are pretty new but most are nice homes with beautiful landscaping.
@@stevenkaskus6173 yes these house's were not that bad from what I could tell from the street but likely had water damage on the lower levels. Thanks for watching Steven.
They’re probably abandoned because of the big flood we had here in June , 2013 I believe it’s destroyed a lot home and around the high reviver area was no exception a lot people lost everything due to the flood. No one parishes though so I doubt they’re haunted.just maybe very water damaged and no one is allowed there because the homes have black mold . Just sad all around.
A lot being vacant is not the same as abandoned. No-one lives there but the yards are mown. No vandalism. Why did people leave ? Surely there would be some owners not willing to leave 🤷🏻♂️
They had to leave due to one year the water from the river near by flooded the whole area causing major damage to the insides of homes water was about 6feet deep and more in some area's. I would imagine the black mold is really bad in them.
@@croniclow a few years ago they had a very bad flood causing lots of damage to the interior of the homes. Check out High River Alberta Floods... Thanks for stopping by.
There are subdivisions in Houston that have flooded two and three times . They have had to be completely gutted and redone . Sometimes the government buys the people out but not often . It's a real mess .
Don't build on floodplains or unstable hillsides. Alberta is unforgiving to either outcomes... I.e. High River floods and Whitemud Road mansions sliding into the North Saskatchewan back in 1999...
So were these people not told this was a flood plain before they built. They are beautiful homes. Does it not have to be revealed.if it's a flood plain before.people.build there. How bad was the flood, how deep was the water
That area of high River is not a creepy area , that part of the town got flooded a few years back and nothing bad happened their except for a flood and other people would agree that you should do your homework before doing a video of the area
I'm not sure what really is the reason but most of the ones that can be moved are bought out at the Auction they had. but the brick ones and ones with huge fire places are going to be torn down. from Bash told me and the older guy that was walking up to us.
I don't understand why they can't make repairs and move back in. Do they think this area will flood again? If they knew this was an area prone to flooding why did they allow them to build there in the first place??? Very strange indeed.
Yup I did notice it so there is a couple bad kids around... haha yup this was creepy wish I could of gone in around there at night but I'am pretty sure I'd be in jail.
Hmm, interesting!! Are these houses still exist as of right now (September 2020) or already demolished? We might check this out! Thanks, new subscriber here from Calgary 😃
They might have one or so but most got sold during an Auction and moved to another location. But it's pretty cool spot to check out.. thanks for stopping by and saying hello!
They demolished a lot of them, but also auctioned many off. I know where 7 of them are now. 5 of them are with each other in a subdivision of 7 lots :)
@@annewiebe9561 good question I think the owners are long gone from that area as this happened many years ago. Crazy tho to think they just up and left the area. It hasn't flooded since either.
Amazing the builder or owner of all them lots got away with selling them lots if they were in a flood plain. Town zoning laws here wouldn't allowed that.
The ones that can be moved are getting moved out to a different location and the rest are getting taking down. no one is moving into any of these homes some have very little damage and other have a lot.

@MrSpongie1 Wow, that's just awful. I'm in New Brunswick, we have regular flooding but not in the last few years, surprisingly. It is so damaging. The last really bad one was in 2018.
@@MrSpongie1I just checked it out. OH MY !!! I have no words. How do you ever recover from something like that right ?
Niesamowite miejsce. Bardzo dobry materiał. Pozdrawiamy serdecznie z Polski 🇵🇱
this is in Joe Clarks' home area and old riding (Prime Minister and long time Member of Parliament in Canada). A Conservative area for sure, but the RCMP took the opportunity to BREAK IN to boarded up homes and grab the long guns. What??!! Alberta is basically the Texas of Canada when it comes to gun Rights! THAT is an interesting story.
Thanks for stopping by.
Yep that was super f*cked up .. that flood was something else

I am highly doubtful that any of these homes are still there now. But they are located in High River.

The properties looked like they were well established before abandonment and someone is mowing the majority of the lawns. Weird.
Yup the government owns all the properties now.. besides the ones they auctioned off... I enjoyed making this video.
I wonder why They still mow the lawns? No one is ever going live there again..
The government bought out all the homes and part of the requirements I guess was the yards were to be kept cut so that when they went to auction they would be able to get top dollar although I am pretty sure some of them were sold around 50k. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed my video.
Can person buy these places to fix up live there? Let me know if you can.
I believe they were all sold at an auction. And move to
Where is this ? Right in High River ?
Yup right inside High River. About 1.5km from the downtown.
The subdivision was called Beachwood Estates
Would the house made out of brick be the least damaged?
Yeah you would think I believe 80% were bought at an auction. And moved.
No, they suffered the same amount of damage
Also the brick had to be taken down. Then clean every brick by hand or put new brick on. One of my sons cleaned bricks for one of those houses in its new location. The people who bought ut wish to preserve the original brick and put it back on :)
We’re in Alberta is this would they be for sale
They likely all have been sold and moved out of that location. Thanks for stopping by.
where is this you say high river cause im pretty sure i use to live on that streeet
This place is in high river, alberta canada. People was move out by goverment into different location due to flood. I mean as a filipino from a country that used to a flood it was crazy.. Volcano eruption, surely. But flood, no way..😆😆😆😆. Sounds wacky to me..
Got to go in and look man. With out braking in master Key or something lol It’s nice to see that there not recked. Other then the one window
Why are they abandoned??? That's weird not structural it appears.... so why'd they leave?
Looks like a well established neighborhood why not repair and rebuild the neighborhood? Makes no sense just to abandon the place over a 100 year flood. People here live on the ocean and they get flooded on average once every 20 years and they don';t run off and abandon their Homes. Crazy!
Well I think they are worried for another huge flood to happen is my guess. but yea I think it floods more often the once every 20 years... and it's really close to a river.
5 people died in the flooding. It was built on a flood plain. No one wants to stay around for the next one
This place floods constantly. Its called high river for a reason. It wasnt the one flood that pushed this decision it was the floods prior and after..
They should renovate them and keep them open for people.

High River, and I highly doubt they is any homes left at this point cause this video is old.

@@MrPixelgrower hey Mrpixelgrower thanks for the status update. I'll have to check it out the next time I m in High River.

Not sure what's left but likely just the drive ways.
Where is the neighborhood
@@charliejohnson8502 it's all gone now... But High River is still vibrant community.

There are subdivisions in Houston that have flooded two and three times . They have had to be completely gutted and redone . Sometimes the government buys the people out but not often . It's a real mess .

High river gun grab...rcmp hard at work
@@timhick6 RCMP hard at work? What do you mean Tim. The RCMp went in and cleaned up all the gun owners?
Very odd - the government must have deemed them unlivable but they look ok. Expensive places too not any shacks on the street.

I am going to guess this is High River. iirc a whole fuckin street was abandoned after the 2013 floods.
Yes not only was High River destroyed by the flood, Calgary got hit bad too.
Was it because of the big flood maybe?
💯 that's correct

WHY WOULD PEOPLE MOVE BECAUSE OF A FLOOD..HOW WOULD A PERSON GET IN CONTACT WITH THE OWNERS
