His experience as a sprint car driver. If you've never been to a sprint car race - GO - 1425lbs. with the driver and 950 HP on dirt. They are jaw dropping.
Given the fact the Goodyear tires are being pushed to their limits of their construction, this situation will become more common as speeds continue to increase. Just a few years ago, Goodyear wouldn’t guarantee tire integrity past 335MPH. Now they say they’re good for 340MPH.
340mph is not that far away, mind boggling for sure! They slowed them down on nitro percentage, move them to 1000 feet. But they always manage to go faster!!
@@dickymiller7196 Nitro percent is and has been 90%. To slow them down they will need to limit tire size (height) gear ratios, size of injector hats etc.
The downforce on the back wing is crazy. And this proves it. Soon as that tire let go, that right rear hit the ground so hard it probably felt like a jump from 10 feet to your butt. OUCH. 0:32
I would fly anywhere with him. He has that "coolness." There's a certain P-51 gringo pilot that I wouldn't even Taxi with no matter how many chin straps he ha attached to his hat.
parachutes did not save his brother Scott. When Scott was at Englishtown he blew a tire and his engine exploded Scott caught fire and crashed into the net at 300 MPH all Doug has left of him is shrapnel and Scott's ashes in a jar. Nobody wants to go through that ever.
someone is going to get chewed at Kalitta got a flat tire and it blew up on the finish line get the brooms and clean this up so we can finish qualifying. Good Save Kalitta looks like you will have to pull the backup bad to get a flat tire during qualifying. I remember when Old John Force got a flat it sent him into the wall twice the first time almost killed him because if you watched that one Disney movie about what happened that day DSR sabotaged his car and Kenny bumped him leading to the tire to explode and he smacked the wall. and broke apart. 32 broken bones all because his rival Don Schmacher wanted to get even and threatened his life.
@@MattLitkeRacing DSR sabotaged John Force's car in the 2000s leading to the Dallas crash when his tie blew. The DSR and Team Force Feud lead to the death of two drivers Eric Medlin and Doug's brother Scott DSR caused all that.
Doug is one of the best!
That’s where a USAC dirt racing background and years of piloting and flight simulator qualifications comes in handy
His sprint car skills - came into play on that one ! No panic -- just ride it out - Wheel Man he is - Great Job !!
Great job driving Doug! Way to save. Glad your alright.
Great save at that speed! Shows skill and years of seat time.👏💪👍🔥
I was there today I got to say hi to one of the racers and got a shirt it was really fun and loud
The man can wheel anything to a win
He definitely has it all together!!!!!
Doug can drive!
I hope to see him win the championship.
are you a time traveler or good at predicting the future
One Cool Customer 👍👍
What a Chad! Good save brother!
I'm guessing his training as a pilot
Helped him keep the car under control as the tire came off and stay calm as he exited the car

He's a jet pilot. Another day at the office.
I was there that was wild good saved by the driver

Love it when they put these cars on the high side, BUSINESS TIME !!
Good job, driver.
A man who races dragsters and is a seasoned multi-engine pilot... does not panic.
I’ve never seen a wheel come off like that
I was there today. I got this on video but it's kinda far away.

How odd to blow a tire. Must have been something on the track. Blowing a tire at 55 is kinda crazy. Wonder how crazy it was at 300...
First tare blow I have seen...
"Aviate, Navigate, Communicate"
Good driving.
That could be hard on the chassis though.

It was scary watching that
The Darrel Russel accident just went through my mind seeing this.
Parachutes saved him!❤️

Amazing save???...I've seen way better
It isn't titled "Best save in the history of drag racing" - maybe you could post a video of a great save and give it that title?
The shoots saved her, but dam, she's a good driver
