    when your bread comes out of the oven be sure to rub it well with a stick of butter. That softens the crust and makes it taste great.

    I wrap my sourdough loaf in a towel as soon as it comes out. I leave it on till it's cool. That keeps it from being so hard. I can't believe how big the kids are! It goes by way to fast!

    Today I am making sourdough discard garlic pull apart bread….had a lot of discard in the fridge so I thought it would be great with pasta tonight.❤ enjoy your sourdough journey, I’m on year 4 with Fred. (Yes, my sourdough’s name is Fred)😀Jen I found putting a sheet pan under the Dutch oven helps with the bottom not getting as dark

      Thank you for that tip. I've also seen many people not preheat the oven and bake the sourdough bread with the lid on the entire time. I might try that next time.

    Hi Jennifer. So good to see you trying sourdough. I’ve been at it for 8 years. I adore it. As soon as your starter is more then doubling after
    feedings( hours) it is ready. It has to be strong to rise a dough. Good luck.

    You are so brave to let us see your first sourdough loaf! My sourdough journey is just beginning also. I look forward to see your progress.
    I had been considering Earth Breeze for a long time but was concerned it wouldn't get really dirty work clothes clean. Our daughter in law told me how she has been using it for a couple of months now and she simply sprays the really dirty stuff (they have 2 littles) with Dawn Power wash and washes with Earth Breeze. She has no complaints.
    Always look forward to your new videos. ❤

    Your bread looked perfect and Warren walking off with it proved its good...lol....I have a different sourdough recipe from a starter I made in 1972 from a starter of my Moms that she started in 1960...it doesnt have all those steps to it....doesnt take much longer than making yeast bread...but its true delicious sourdough...

    Your sourdough loaf looks great! About sourdough... I never did well with a wet starter in any way, shape, or form. I now use a dry starter and that is so much easier in my humble opinion. I didn't like feeding and discarding a wet starter daily or keeping it sitting around the kitchen, and my loaves weren't as nice as yours turned out (mine were more like bricks, lol). I learned the dry starter method from Shaye Elliott (The Elliott Homestead) and it changed my sourdough game. I just thought I'd mention it in case you're interested. Your loaf looks very nice! The muffins look good, too.

    I thought I was the Reuse Queen, but you have me beat. I pay for Recycling thru my HOA but after my neighbor followed the Recycle truck (after pick up) to the dump, I decided I'd do what I could on my own. I love your bread rising bowl cover. What a clever idea!

    • @acountrylife
      @acountrylife  9 місяців тому +1

      That's exactly why I loathe recycling. The garbage truck comes, empties the dumpster and then throws the recycling in with it. What a waste of time to separate and bag in clear bags.

    Awesome job on your bread!! I have found it turns out good even if I don't preheat the dutch oven or only preheat it for 15 or 20 minutes. I have also fed the starter just before bed so I can make the dough first thing in the morning and have enough time to bake it for that evenings supper. Experiment with it! It's fun! 🤗🍞

    Put a rubberband around the jar after feeding starter. That way you can tell how much it rises. I sometimes heat my water to lukewarm or just a bit more. Be sure water is not chlorinated. I have well water and UNbleached flour works best!

    There is too much work for me with making sour dough bread as I am old now so I just buy a small loaf if I want it. I am not much of a bread eater anymore due to those carbs but a quick yeast bread is for me. Yeast breads make a house smell so good. The muffins looked delicious.

    Did I tell you I made your oven fried chicken? I couldn't tell if hubby liked it or not. Finally he said it was good, but wasn't fried chicken. I had to think it through and decided it is because he is used to KFC type fried chicken which has a thick, crusty coating. Next time I might coat it with bread crumbs instead of the flour.

    Yipes... that bread sounded serious. A LOT OF WORK for what the end result is. I'd just as soon buy mine from a reliable bakery... and be done. But to each their own I suppose. I would not ever go through all of those steps that you did and then burn it in the oven and then have to try to salvage whatever I could?? Very discouraging. Probably not to you... but for me... a definite waste of precious ingredients AND time. Loved the rest of the video however... just sayin'.
