3:59 😮 It didn't even occur to me that there's an app for organizing my patterns!
Yes! apps.apple.com/us/app/sewing-patterns/id1293431758
Thank you!!!
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Serena. I am an old guy who's done cross-stitch before but never sewed in my life. I came across your channel by chance. You are a charming and lovely lady inside and out. Will keep watching your videos-people like you make the world a nicer place!
Awww thank you so much!!! 🤗💕 your words are so kind and I truly appreciate it
I agree.
@@7spiritualcompass706so do I !
Perfectly stated! And I agree too. I just stumbled across her channel as well just now in 2024 and I'm having a BALL watching her videos! What a classy gal with such a talent!
I absolutely love your style and how talented you are!!❤
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it 💕💕
You are an absolute tonic for the world! Thank you for the calm and so loved content.
🎯I Know Right
You have made so many folks jealous with the size of your sewing room! A dream come true for so many!
Hahaha I went from a tiny closet and I felt kind of bad taking up such a big space it took a lot of convincing from my husband that it was ok and I deserved it.
I thought the wall papered room was a traditional bedroom. Was I surprised there was another huge area next to it! I am glad to hear you were given the whole basement just for sewing and filming, and I am sure your husband was so happy to support you both in your sewing and in your you tube business. You are a lovely lady.
You need to be in one of those fashion reality shows!!!! I see a winner!!!!😊🎉❤
Hahah I don’t ! That type of pressure is not for me 🤣.
@@SewRena you might surprise yourself!!!
Smart, talented, eager to educate, outstanding taste, creative, and kind. This little gingham sundress is delightful! I love your videos.
SewRena, it's so much fun to watch you. My mother was a seamstress all her life. You have brought back many happy memories. Thank you.
I you will not believe how many 1960 patterns I threw out, many unused, when my mother passed away. I had no idea would want that stuff. Boxes of fabric went to the Salvation Army,
I love how confident you are! I really love your style and your family is so adorable!❤
Thank you so much 💕💕
I have had several Kenmore machines but I have never seen a cabinet like yours that slides back into place. How interesting. Thank you for showing your sewing room. I adore all things sewing. My favorite machine is a Kenmore very similar to yours. I also have a 1950's Kenmore in its top-of-the line cabinet. And it still works.I do enjoy your videos. Thanks
This is exactly what the sewing community needed, a realistic look at a sewing space. It doea not happen like magic, have to do a little bit at a time due to being completely overwhelmed. People who show a fancy room that looks like a sewing shop is not realistic. Many of us do not have the reaources to pay a professional organizer. I know this is encouragement for all us folks who want a proper space to sew and create. God Bless all. Thank you for sharing ur space. It is quite lovely .❤❤❤
Totally agree with you Joy
Thank you so much! I have been trying to keep it nearer but when it comes to sewing or cleaning I would rather sew.
@JoyCleckley 100% agree!! I am fortunate to have an extra bedroom to use as my sewing/crochet/ hand embroidery area, and over a year later, I am STILL organizing, reorganizing, and trying to figure out where everything will fit. Not having enough space for everything in one room is not helping.
@@SewRena 😂😊 You're a gem 💎 🥰
Nice big sewing area. Love it!
Super cute. For labeling my bins in my craft room I just added a large number on each one. Then I keep a master list of what is in 1, 2, 3 etc. When I need something I just glance through my list to get the number. It is working very well for me, much better than before when I had random words all over my bins and was constantly changing labels as I used things up and got new things. Now I just change it in my computer and print out a new master list.
That’s a really good idea thank you! I used to have dry erase labels on my old containers
❤ you are organized with your sewing machines and patterns.
More more more! Love all this! Thank you for sharing!!
Love the wall paper and matching chair and stuff. I absolutely adored the vintage inspiration
You are an absolute delight ❤
I would love to see more videos like this with like vintage home ideas and things. Love that wallpaper!!!
Girlfriend that is such Blessing ti have that big beaut iful room!! I just love it😊😊 Enjoy
Hi Serena, love watching you and all your vintage notions and patterns and resulting projects. It reminds me of when when I used to sew with my Grammy! Your friend Kim from Quincy Massachuse tts 😊
Thank you 💕💕
You and your beautiful room also remind me of Grammy's sewing room where we spent so many wonderful hours together, thank you again for your channel 🥰
My mom has an extensive fabric collection. She wraps it on a cardboard square and stores the fabric vertically in file boxes.
That’s a great storage solution. I’m hoping that only sewing from my collection I’ll reduce the amount that I have and I won’t need more shelving I really like keeping everything open. Plus I hate cleaning up so less stuff less mess 🤞🏾🤞🏾
My mother had that exact Kenmore machine, and before that, she had a Singer that would probably be worth a lot of money now. I also remember her chair with the removable seat, where she stored some sewing supplies. The desk with the pull-up thread storage is wonderful! I love this sewing area, it must be nice to have your own space for your projects and fabrics.
I really enjoyed the vintage style my opinion it’s beautiful thanks for sharing 😊
That's how I have my ironing board set up too!
I love your sewing space! Me I would knock out the walls and build an open space for fabric bolts! and space for you creations to display. Beautiful space. I would get more accomplished if I had your space. You can make a dress form using duct tape and an old t-shirt.
So very talented and artistic!!❤
You have a beautiful sewing room and I am in love with the wallpaper design. You have incredible taste in everything, Serena. I thought I had died and gone to heaven with the sewing machines and all the cool compartments each had. Thank you for sharing the space with us!
Thank you so much 🥰🥰
@@SewRena, You're so welcome!
Wow- your sewing space is much bigger than had imagined. I’m so glad you’ve got all that lovely natural light with all those windows. I can’t wait to see how you end up displaying your machines!
Love your sewing room and how you organized it! That secret thread compartment is so cool! 🙀✨ and I would stare at that wallpaper all day ✨
Super duper...very well done...can we rewind life..whatever they did was really nice and very well thought through.
Such a lovely tour. I adore your pattern storage.
Thank you 🥰🥰
I absolutely love your sewing room! 😍
I put my patterns in vertical files in hanging folders, with have the tabs for category type. I have photocopies of the front covers in plastic sleeves in 3 ring binders, sort of like an extra large card catalog if you are old enough to remember those. I have that exact same folding table.
Thanks! I find the app super helpful I can take a photo of the front and back of the pattern and search by type. It also makes it easier to shop because I have all my patterns and requirements on my phone
Love your organization. Well done.
Thank you 💕💕
I just love your channel! You are such an inspiration to me! I am a HUGE sew Rena fan!!!! Luv ya girl! Keep sharing all those beautiful inspirational pieces!
Omg thank you so so much 🥹🤗 so glad to have you 💕💕
Great fun tour. The wallpaper totally reminds me of the 70’s more than the 50’s (& I’ve lived thru both decades! 🫤)
Thank you, It was not meant to look like a 50’s pattern my favorite machines are from the 70’s.
Had a bathing suit with the light blue gingham check dress you are wearing.
I'm here for the Chevy Corvair. It's a nice car.
Thanks for sharing. I love sewing room tours (innate noseyness)
What a wonderful space. Thank you so much for sharing it with us all. My only *real* suggestion is to hang the 'Play' button lower on the wall so the camera can more easily pick it up in the background of your shots.
_Scrap Fabric Suggestion_ - Meditation pillows. I found the pattern by zooming around the interwebs, but basically they are two circled joined by a rectangle that's long enough to have regular pleats in them, and then a small rectangle for the handle (which hides the overlapping slit opening at the side). I use mine to store the scraps. One is for larger cabbage scraps. One is for the tiny coleslaw. Also makes great gifts for people. Or donated to the local women's shelter...
Is there room under your cutting table for the cabbage scrap bin? I've worked in kitchens, so my life is all about saving steps... Maybe have a portable vintage crock that can move from machine to machine to store the thread and seam scraps?
I'd be tempted to wait a little longer to figure out the storage solutions for the office area. You have some good ideas, but you feel like you're in the stage of where you're figuring out what _exactly_ you need. It's OK to let it sit a little longer. Maybe you could include a comfy chair to curl up in and storage for mending (with an appropriate light)?
That brocade fabric in your closet is Ah-maze-ing. And there's enough of it for an entire project, plus the accessories. Full length pencil skirt dress/gown, with a wrap, with a head turban... dunno, just spit-balling. Something to wear out to the theatre...
Love your ironing board placement. I have no space, so my Featherweight lived on top of a 6-drawer Ikea metal drawer unit (the drawers hold the presser feet, the drafting supplies, ribbon, tailors tape, lace and embroidery supplies). I swapped out the wheels for 360 so I can roll it out of the way when it's not in use. Beside the sofa is my Granny's Martha Washington cabinet, on top of which is the ironing station. That way I can sit on the sofa and iron without having to get up and walk across the room... Also love that your hams match the wallpaper.
I have a 1915 hand-crank Singer 99K and a 1949 Singer Featherweight. They're both named after their previous owners - just attempting to keep the history intact. I've used a fountain pen (ball-point bleeds over time) to write out the history of each machine in the front of the manual page for future owners.
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Thanks so much! I put the button up
High because the rest of the space below it will have my pressing tools and supplies.
@@SewRena It's a balancing trick. You're still figuring out where things need to be. Like I typed, the only thing to consider with the 'play' is to have it somewhere at camera level in the backdrop.
@Steve Zytvelt Cathy, ditto on the ironingboard placement! Really handy. (Having a handy ironing board close at hand makes all the difference in whether you actually use it!)
Cathy, also neat ideas on preserving notes on the history of the sewing cabi ets.
@@Julia_USMidwest Because, when you're 70 yrs old and it's time to pass these ladies on to their next owner - are you really going to remember all that prior owner detail; probably not...
For active sewing I went for a U-shape design. Machine in front of me, ironing to my right, flat surface to my left (ie, the rest of the sofa). Because if things aren't handy, the last thing I'm gonna do is walk across the room...
There are little "keepers" that can be used in the pegboard hardware to keep them from coming out of the board every time you remove an item. They come in handy! Put that on your shopping list. 😘
Oh, I see you have some! Lol, same with my garage pegboard. I have some, but need many more. Darn things fall behind the toolbox and cabinets and that means quite the effort to retrieve. Cheers mama!
I have the very same sewing chair! It was my Christmas present!
Very nice space. I love all your machines and that wallpaper is so cool.
Thank you 💕🥰
So very organized i love it so much...I am a firm believer in being as organized as I can be I find it easier to be creative this way. I'm so impressed with your work absolutely gorgeous. Have a blessed rest of the day. 🙏
Love your Vintage Nostalgic Vibes so unique 🥇🏆⭐️🫶🏽
I am living vicariously through you! This is an amazing sewing space ❤❤
You should save some scraps for a quilt someday from all of your sewing projects. 😊
Your sewing room is a dream! It is so big and i love the vintage style❤
Thank you so much 💕💕
Your pattern collection is wonderful-- so many fun projects for you to sew! I look forward to seeing your videos about them.
What a wonderful room!
I'm actually delighted how that one sewing machine table sort of slides together like leaves of a dining table can
Hi! I was just watching your 1950's coat video, and in it you just barely mention using your buttonhole attachment. Have you made a video showing it in more detail? Thanks for all you share with the sewing community!
I use clear door-hung shoe organizers for my sewing notions, too! For the first time in my life I can see at a glance what I have and where it is stored. A real game changer!
Yes!! Shoe holders was how I kept my crafts stored when I didn’t have a room and now that I do I still want to keep a less cluttered space.
Absolutely love your peg board I did a similar idea with my dreambox and wreath wall. It's so handy and love the vintage and the era is awesome
You have a beautiful sewing room. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to show us. Wow, on your sewing machine storage cabinets. I did know they came like that.
Very nice space for your creativity. 🌻
Thank you so much 💕💕💕
It also remind you of secretary crafting and or secretary office spaces
You're Our Sewing 🧵 with Nancy ✂️❤️
I have that exact same Kenmore (the one you use in most of your videos). Mine sadly no longer works. It was My Aunt's and was her main machine she used as a professional seamstress for decades. It's still in great condition cosmetically and I would love to get it repaired to use. Loved the tour.
Love your sewing room! The wallpaper is so cool! Love it! A very nice space to let yourself get creative! 💚💚
so nice! thanks for all the vintage sewing and furniture!
Have you ever done any videos in black and white with a I Love Lucy kind of feel, scripted, with quirky 50s/60s gesticulations, or kind of like a Dick Van Dyck short opening sequence. I just thought as much your videos transport me to that era, seeing it in black and white and hearing it in that eras sound might be interesting?
I haven’t but I totally could. Maybe I can make a fun intro
❤❤ i just reacted like a kid in a comic book shop seeing all those patterns
I am so happy that you have your own creative space!! Love the wallpaper!!!
Thank you 💕💕
So funny, I have those exact baskets, and I still have the tags on a few of mine too lolol. Dang expensive 😞
Hahahah mine were pretty cheap! They were on sale for a short time. When I went back to get more they were expensive. I left the tag on some of them as a way to remind me that I needed to log those patterns in my app 😂🤣
@@SewRena that's a great idea. I'm just lazy lol
I want to learn how to sew better. TFS
What a fantastic sewing room! It's big and has a lot of storage space. Love all those vintage sewing machines, you know that the turquoise and white one with all that gorgeous chrome is my favorite! Super smart storage idea with the pegboards, keeps everything organized and visible. My mom used to leave her machines out if she was working on a project and just covered the entire machine with a tea towel to keep dust away. I've adopted that idea so I don't have to keep unpacking and packing up my machines, but yours stow away quickly and easily. Great video, thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the tour. That bobbin holder in the one sewing machine is very clever. If you don't have one already, get a little pan for pouring the miscellaneous buttons into, it makes it easy to sort through, find the button you need and replace the buttons in the jar. That's what I do for my nuts & bolts.
Which machines are your favorite and why? I love your new sewing room❤
Have you considered using some 2nd hand chests of drawers or armoires?
I’m probably going to buy some cube shelving second hand. I want everything as open as possible so I can see what I have. I’m not in any real hurry
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Your old machines are impressive. Keep them well maintained as the newer computerized machines may have the stitches but don't have the strength. I have a very expensive 2023 Janome that will not outlast my 1995 Elna, which is a workhorse. One piece of advice: a long cutting table-mine is approx. 6,5 x 4 feet-could change your life (and save your back!). And what is that red dress in the closet??!! Is it one of your projects, and can we see it?
learning how to sew is my next journey. Congratulations on fABMAZING sewing room
If your name is Serena, that's my eldest daughter's name.
I named her from one of the characters on the "Bewitched" series. It's Samantha's cousin's name in "Bewitched", my favorite show as a young adult. 😊
Who were you named after?
You must have a very loving and understanding husband who supports you in dreams. 😍I'm curious if you ever make anything for him .🤔
You are my new fave non God content account. IM HAPPY YOUR HUSBAND GAVE YOU THE WHOLE BASEMENT
I still have my 1974 Kenmore 158-1760 which was my first sewing machine and one I used exclusively until my sis gave me a Viking Emerald 118 a few years ago. It has some nice features, but really pales in comparison to the Kenmore. I also have my mother's 1963 Kenmore, a 1950 Featherweight and a White Rotary treadle. I am planning on using the treadle for quilting, though I've never really sewed with it, so we shall see! My sis follows you on Instagram and then I found you here also.
Brings me joy to see that your success has allowed you to grow from a sewing machine in a closet (although I must say that converting a guest room closet into a sewing area was a brilliant idea. I'm going to have to give my own guest room closet a gander now...) to that large, bright work room with custom!! wallpaper. Next, how about a closet tour??!!
OMG your singer or another brand sewing machine that looks like your sewing machine your desk was placed in front of the compacter at my Apt complex. I have seen a couple mid century sewing machines on tables but too heavy. I found a 2017 singer sewing. Thank you for sharing your sewing projects and skill.
Serena, I heard your podcast with Love to Sew ( i was listening to older casts) and heard you. I have never made a comment on you tube, but I had to tell you that you are AMAZING and I’m going to watch al; your videos and follow you. You just sounded like a kind, funny, normal person with a really cool style and attitude. I love vintage, and need to see how you construct your projects. I want to wear a 50s skirt every dat with a cute top or cigarette pants. This may become (another) obsession . Thank you for just being you.
At first I thought your name was a play on “sew queen”… sewrena… queen in Spanish is Reina, you’re only missing the “i”… It still counts, bcz you’re definitely a sewing queen. ❤
Hey, some people use a spare bedroom for a home office, a workout room/home gym, a dressing room/huge walk-in closet (me, 😊), or a beautiful vintage sewing room like this one.
SewRena, I love your sewing room!! And I wanted to share something I’m incorporating not only in my sewing area, but in the rest of my home. Perhaps others have shared something similar? I am positively enamored with wheels. Especially since my mother shared with me that my father had added wheels under a favorite chest of drawers he had built. It makes it so easy to move. He recessed the wheels up inside the skirting around the chest of drawers. You can barely even notice they are there. I unashamedly bought a desk/table top and 4 hairpin legs from ikea. I sew on it now. Years ago I bought 2 two drawer file cabinets, and topped them with a luan door I finished with polyurethane. There were wheeled frames available for these file cabinets which made it easier to take apart and move around. Perhaps these ideas might be something you might be able to use. 😊Happy sewing!!
Your sewing room is absolutely gorgeous! The wallpaper is so cute and unique! And I'm pretty sure something in my house will become that shade of lovely green. I'm one your your new subs, and am really enjoying your channel and content! 💚💚
May I advise …lol? Invest in a really good chair to support your back , neck, and legs to use for your sewing.. I know you’re young but it will prevent neck and back injuries so you can sew comfortably and happily .❤ I didn’t and after years of pain I can start to sew again due to my made to my specifications chair! Thank you for all you share and 😘
IKEA has some great closets that store a large amount of my different fabrics and it looks like nice furniture. Modern clean wood. That way your fabric is out of sight but easy to check out when needed.I don't work for IKEA, just a suggestion for your sewing room.
That's a very nice video! I really love old sewing machines. Thank you for sharing your space with us!
12:27 maybe do 12x12 square tile mirrors, my home that was built in 1961 came with them and is very useful (helps the room look bigger, I can look at my self from a different angle)
It just hit me you are a DESIGNER can't wait to see your first design 🎉🎉🎉
Great sharing 👍🌷🍀🌺🌾🏵🌵🌳🍁
Girl, those of us who sew know the reality of the mess in a sewing/craft room. You can't put everything away mid-project.
Awesome. May I suggest you make the ironing board cover solid green to match your walls.
Hello some of my band mates and I am putting together a vintage music band. I would like to consult with you on dresses and wardrobe. How do we get in touch with you?
I have some vintage patterns that were my great Aunt’s. They have been sitting in a box. As a history teacher I can’t throw them out but hate they are just sitting in a box. If you have any ideas what to do with them or who might like them, please let me know.
🎉u now hav 1000 likes on this video 😊 great video thanks 🎉
My sister Tina made a pegboard spool for my mom. She got the pegboards and wooden dowels to fit in the holds of the pegboard and she cashed them each thread run somewhere longer somewhere shorter. And Mom could just go to the wall and pick anything up I would love to have room to do that.
Wow 😮 I’m so jealous ! Lol 😝. Great room but someone as talented as you deserves it !
Just delightful! I believe my aunt Shirley would have enjoyed this room. I don't sew, but she did, and this is a treat to see.
Can you open the areas with the closets and make it one large storage area with long shelving? I had a long shelf in my last house with industrial pipe into the studs that held 6 vintage machines and other sewing decor. Thanks for sharing, I love seeing your space.
