    Test drove one in canada had no issues with the engine acceleration. I wasn't expecting it to be a powerhouse. Drives very smooth and very responsive. Have a 2020 Civic sport touring and was impressed with how quiet this suv is in the cabin. Passed on the CRV back then as it was too noisy for me.

    Here in the middle east, specifically Saudi Arabia, the Subaru Forester since 2016 comes with a 2.0 Liter FA20...non turbo.
    not the FB25 like the 2015- and current US models.
    So this HRV with AWD would be a great option for the wife as its bigger than the XV/crosstrek and smaller than a forester with just as much displacement. Plus it looks like a lambo Urus had a baby with a Mazda CX5

    The only reason I was thinking of getting an HR-V was for the magic seats (on previous model years).....I guess I'll go for the Mazda CX-30, instead. There is no excuse for not having a fold down arm rest in the back seat and no air vents on the top of the line trim model EX-L.

    NIce review.. Thanks for the video.. I have seen several youtube reviews of the new HR-V.. Everyone talks about the increase width and length.. Nobody talks about height.. What about height???????? A big problem with today's vehicle is that they are so low.. Low rooflines... and most keep getting lower.. This low-ness reduces visibility, headroom, comfort, overall room and driving enjoyment.. I am about 6' 2".. getting more difficult to find a vehicle that fits me comfortably. I even went to a Toyota dealership recently and saw a newer Camry.. The roofline was about waist high to me.. I couldn't believe it.. Total disaster. Who would want to drive in something that low??? Even the SUVs and Crossovers are getting lower.. Not a good trend if you ask me.. and if you ask a lot of over 6 foot people..

    • @nlpnt
      @nlpnt 2 роки тому +1

      If you lump cars with crossovers the average height has been climbing steadily since 1990. Everything used to be well under 55" high and everything sporty would aim for 50" at most.

Low stance or low roofline causes big problems that I spoke about in my earlier original post.

      I’m somewhat in a similar boat. I need both legroom and height and it’s a bit tricky to find vehicles that are comfortable for me to drive without sacrificing handling.
      You are absolutely correct. In the last few years, sedans’ height has gone down. Two reasons for that: Better aerodynamics for better fuel economy, and lower center of gravity for better handling.
      Carmakers’ view is that if you want a higher/taller vehicle, you’d buy an SUV or crossover.
      And as someone else mentioned, up to the 1990’s sedans were pretty low, and sports cars even lower. It was only in the early 2000s that sedans followed SUVs and got taller. So in reality, sedans are just going back to where they were, height-wise, prior to the early 2000s.
      I hate tall SUVs, don’t feel connected to the road and I call them “flippers” because of how many flip over onto their roofs in accidents. It’s gotten better with stability control features, but I’ve seen so many SUVs on their backs from even minor accidents.
      But I also hate low-riding sedans. You don’t have a good view out of them when surrounded by taller vehicles and I always worry that an accident with an SUV would be catastrophic because of the low beltline.
      I’ve found that compact and mid-size crossovers give the best of both worlds. Decent handling, good visibility, and less likely to flip. Subarus are good in this regard. Good visibility, roominess, and the low boxer engine design makes for a lower center of gravity, helping handling and making it less likely to flip.
      Car & Driver used to list h-point (hip-point) stats on cars, which is basically how high the driver’s seat is (at its lowest setting). I found this extremely useful and bought a VW Passat based on that, because it had a very high h-point for a sedan, and also had massive legroom both front and rear.
      For some reason I can’t find h-point stats on Car & Driver’s website any more. Maybe it’s now available only for subscribers.
      Anyway, hope this was helpful.

    • @JohnArnis
      @JohnArnis 8 місяців тому +1

      I totally agree I have 2018 and I love the fact its unique, coupe-look design with the hidden rear door handles, stands out from all the plain vanilla crossovers out there including the new HR-V. Also I’ve always wanted one due to its small size based on the little Fit, for inner city driving in Chicago which has a lot of narrow lane highways! I had a 2003 CR-V bought new, for 14 years, 251K miles when I sold it, but even that I felt I wanted to downsize from. My kids are grown so I don’t need the extra space and my HR-V gives just enough interior room for an occasional passenger or two. 99.9% of the time it’s only me! The new HR-V lacks the Magic Seat which I think is a big negative. I’ve used mine so many times! It lets you carry bulky cargo without having to use your rear cargo and taking off the rear cargo shelf, with the added higher lift height over the bumper. I’ve been able to carry my Trek bike utilizing the Magic Seat while still having the use of the rear cargo area at the same time. Try doing that in the new HR-V! Thanks for bringing up the fact that the cargo area hasn’t grown at all even being based on the larger Civic platform! That’s crazy!
      But the new one is still a good vehicle, more suited for those on a budget that don’t want to pop for the extra bucks for the larger CR-V. Comparable interior space and safety features. My older CR-V was the perfect size when my kids were little and this new HR-V with similar interior room would be ideal for those with small children along with the family pets!

    This is what happens when brands compete in a segment no one cares about. Toyota has the Rav-4, and the CorollaCross. Now Honda has the CR-V, and the CivicCross, I mean...HR-V.
    If Toyota and Honda aren't careful, they will fall for the same failures of focus group checkbox engineering that irreparably damaged GM and Ford in the 90's.

    • @davewilson7602

      I’m interested what you mean by GM and Ford Focus group engineering do you have examples? Thanks

    • @bigbuckoramma
      @bigbuckoramma 2 роки тому +3

      @@davewilson7602 You should check out a book by Bob Lutz, former head of Global Product Development at General Motors called "Car Guys vs. Bean Counters" that speaks strongly to GM and Ford's "Badge Engineering". Badge Engineering was the process by which a single platform would be used across multiple brands, hitting multiple price points, in order to offer a perceived value to certain features. These cars were conceived by committee, and built off checklists of brand features, based upon arbitrary facts that were compiled via focus groups, and surveys.
      So, for example, a single car platform would be sold as a Buick, a Pontiac, and a Chevrolet. All with different price points. But all effectively the exact same car, built on the exact same line, with the exact same materials. So the Buick might have a check box that said it had to have nautical badges, and a chrome strip around the door frame, because that says luxury according to a focus group. And the Pontiac needs to have head rests with a hole in them, because according to a survey, 80% of people said that is a sign of performance, and freedom.
      It was all absolute nonsense, but they were funnelling more money in to this research than they were the actual engineering of the cars themselves.
      Lutz goes in to painful detail about this absurdity in that book. Talking about how their need to justify checking a check box was making them lose sight of producing what people actually wanted, which was a unique, fun, a d exciting vehicle to drive that fit their needs and wants, not an over priced head rest with a hole in it.
      Ford did the same with it Lincoln, Mercury and Ford badges as well.
      And you could even argue that Ford is doing the same thing again, by dropping all of its car sales as well, and moving exclusively to trucks and SUVs in the American market.
      In that same way the CorollaCross and the oversized HR-V are filling gaps that no one really needed filled, because they see an area where a focus group targeted a product segment gap. The person that wants all the shortcomings of a compact car like the Corolla or Civic with it's base engine and transmission platform, but dragging around and extra 500 pounds for an oversized hatch they will never use, just so they can own a trendy and fashionable SUV.
      Mazda ha even fallen victim to this. It used to be the CX-5, the CX-7, and the CX-9. The 7 and 9 being built off the same Ford Edge platform. Mazda said forget the CX-7 considering it redundant. Then less than 10 years later came out with the CX-3 to draw in the "but I want an SUV" Mazda 3 buyers, that flopped. Only to 5 years later come out with the slightly smaller than a CX-5, CX-30. And now the slightly bigger than a CX-5, CX-50. And still leaving the CX-9 by itself virtually unchanged in the last nearly 15 years. And I have a feeling the CX-30 or the CX-5 are going to go away at some point, because this Goldilocks complex of "we have to make one of everything so they can find the ones that's JUST right" will financially hurt them. And in this economy, that won't take much.

      nailed it! Classic GM focus groups were often over ruled by a "customers don't know what they want" executive. In 2001, I attended an internal employee focus group for the very first Chevy Colorado. Everyone did their sheets and turned them in. What we found out was it was already too late, and the Lead presenter shared the original abysmal consumer focus group results. My favorite was "front end looks like a layered birthday cake". Yup it did! moral of the story, the consumer focus groups didnt matter, someone already pushed it through without taking the consumer seriously..
