I never stop enjoying this amazing band who have brought me immense pleasure since the death of my wife 4 years ago...thank you from a lonely 83 year old. David McCabe Dublin ireland
It's called traditional jazz, bro. Ever check out Preservation Hall Jazz band? THIS is the best of New Orlean's jazz: ua-cam.com/video/8PO9D9A-5J0/v-deo.html
Tuba Skinny, for me the best traditional Dixieland Band from New Orleans (or from the world ??) with the famous ladies Shaye Cohn and Erika Lewis 👏👏🎺🎺🇩🇪❤️🇺🇸❗️
Love to see Erica sitting on her Bass drum - a truly efficient way to use (and play) an instrument! Looking at her, I try to imagine how many notes she has not - repeat, NOT - played with her left hand, dangling shockingly close to the drum skin so often!! Love you, Erica, and Love you, Tuba Skinny! From Germany, yours admiringly, Paul
Love these guys always - it must be awesome to be present at their street performances and experience the joy they bring to so many. You dont get this anywhere in the world. They are truly unique in their whole presentation, perfect musical coordination and dress code!! From South Africa.
Does this magnificent revivalist band from NOLA ever give a poor public performance? They embody the rich and authentic spirit of NOLA jazz at its finest. The dancers put me right back to 1963 in the way the infectiousness of the music just caught a hold of them and compelled them on to the floor to capture the flow of dance, rhythm and expressive motion.
John Hills : All I know is that this whole band is wonderful, from the clarinet guy and Shaye all the way over to the washboard man. Long may they play!
Je suis musicien,et ce groupe m'émerveille chaque fois que je l'écoute. Un nectar pour les oreilles,un arc en ciel pour les yeux,et une eau de jouvence pour l'âme.
Thank you for posting this lovely performance of Bouncing Around. I love Tuba Skinny and always enjoy the videos from their annual European tour. btw, the sound quality is excellent, almost as good as James Sterling! lol
I love 'Modern jazz' too but this type of Jazz gives me a feel good feeling, makes me smile and want to dance just like the Lyon, France audience in this video!
Just Wow, I knew Shaye Cohn when she was a little girl, she had perfect pitch, I still remember her singing the scales as if was nothing. Great to see her here all grown up.
(2:22)..underneath the table after the cameras sweep the crowd and come back to TS...there's a ROUSES' bag plain as day!! Love it!! Meantime, everybody is beaucoup grooving in Lyon on that jazzy NOLA sound...
Unless I'm very much mistaken, the guy in the blue shirt watching is Alexandre Kantorow, the French pianist who had just won the grand prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia. Now there is a musician!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shaye was in particularly good form on her solos here. Love the ascending figure starts her first solo with. Also enjoyed seeing the people dancing. After all jazz was primarily dance music in the first few decades of its existence. Finally, this doesn't get mentioned and maybe it's considered gauche nowadays but I'm gonna say it anyway, Shaye has amazing legs!
You get away with a gauche comment because you were really listening to her playing, LOL. Cont a les jambes, je suis d'accorde (dredging up a bit of highschool French).
Damn..you could take these guys to the moon, turn them loose and the space people would be boogying in zip time!! Yay TS.. love from Jackson Square..y'all.. xoxox
Are you seeing Shaye at 3:28 signaling the Tuba and saying we'll go back and forth? And that's what they did - ISH. Man she's good. Call and answer we would say. Tuba was not 100 on the same page?? ANyone?
This is not about nostalgia. I am not even a fan of "trad" jazz but this has all the hallmarks of cjhamber Dixie. Old in concept, young in spirit, ageless in polish.
No great loss. As a vocalist he isn't remotely as talented as Erika and so for me his singing tends to diminish the overall quality of a superb band. I appreciate this is a minority view but one that I've had since the first time I heard him sing.
@@kenmurray8476 Thank you for the tip off. I said it as a tongue-in-check remark. But I really like the enthusiasm of him scratching away. Wouldn't it be nice if he has ankle bells percussion to add to his repertoire? I counted a frying pan, an old brass saucer, an old bell, on top of the washboard. Good band.

The 'real jazz' - fantastic performance all round !!
Chippie Baker: what do you mean with "the real jazz" ? There are hundreds of forms of "jazz"...and most of them are "real".
@@stranraerwal The jazz of Armstrong, Oliver, Morton, Dodds etc as opposed to 'Modern Jazz' - a matter of opinion !!
@@lanc3man IMHO Right on board with you, this is "real" jazz.

For part Shaye taps every beat with the right foot and every other with her left -try it its hard.

is that really difficult? i have a background in percussion so maybe that helps but i didnt think it was hard to do
