For all your hate of Christians, West and your British colonizers, you sure love to wax eloquent in English. You lot are hypocrites. Keep your dogma to yourself. Woke, Abrahamic, mlecha - these are the words you have learnt by rote.
The title has nothing to do with the content. And the clip is presented out of context and is difficult to understand for those who are not familiar with advaita vedanta. The swami is simply pointing out that everything that exists is only an object that depends on the self-evident Self (Atma) or Consciousness, which is the only real thing.
And one more important point the swamiji points out...that because atma is self-evident, and never available for objectification, we cannot pass a judgement on it ever. Hence, I cannot say (as swami says in the lecture at one point)....that I am limited. Because to pass that judgement would mean I can objectify the Self, and see myself as limited...which is never the case. Hence, any judgement about myself is illegitimate he points out. This is also a very very important point...because most of our suffering (in fact all of our suffering) is because of a judgment passed on myself. This message is also beautifully brought out in this clip.
''What opinion can I have about the 'Self' which is not subjecting itself to my observation? But I have umpteen opinions about it! You say I am a limited being, as if the Self has been observed by you and you are making a judgement about it!'' A beautiful train of thought for meditation.
Better yet, listen to tapes or videos of Swamiji teaching one or two week courses. Many of the books I've seen are transcribed by his students. I personally get more out of hearing him speak.

@EvenStar303 ...to be enlightened, you have to take back control and dis-identify from the thinking process. After that you have to maintain a layed back, continuous presence of Self internally, until it becomes second nature.(so to speak, because it is actually first nature) Cheers! :0)
self-evident without self-honesty is deception because say you're looking at a childhood memory which is very evident to you, but you decide to ignore certain aspects of the memory while only focusing on more favorable aspects of the memory, so here you have self-dishonest information and knowledge. Meaning, you can still manipulate that which is evident to you, and only your self-honesty will decide that, nobody else can.
This is what he means - if the means of knowledge is defective, so is the information you attain. The self is complete, but that may not be fully evident to you yet.

@vet4piece If we couldn't repeat what other people have said already than we could not speak a single word, because everything has been said already. Knowing when to say and what to say is the real sign of intelligence. I read people all the time quoting wise stuff, but half the time it is in the wrong context.
@vet4piece Out of 10000 comments on UA-cam, maybe one is worth reading. I wish more people would understand what you just said here. This would manifest World Peace and Heaven on Earth.
"I think therefore I am" is a fallacy. I am, therefore I can perceive the thinking mind. Would be more correct. The self does not even think. However it can direct the thinking mind in certain directions, by placing the attention on the desirable thoughts and not on the undesirable ones. When the Self is "asleep" this discernment is missing and than the mind is running in fee-association mode continuously and the Self is in total identification with it. This is the state of UN-enlightenment.
"I am" would be the simplest and most accurate statement. People in vegetative states or with mental disorders and diseases may not be able to perceive their thinking mind, the Self, or anything else.
What we see need not be the real nature of a thing. That is how scientists entered into inquiry of the creation and they thought that creation has some other truth and they arrived at so many elements and they said that combination of elements is the creation. Thereafter they said that elements are not molecules but they are all made-up of atom and they thought that atom is the fundamental nature.
Atma is the subject, cannot be objectified. That Atma is self-shining, self-evident. The question that a vedantin or seeker of truth starts with is "who am I". Am I the body? Am I the thoughts?

How simply explains the subject matter of vedanda !
Amazing communication capacity!
