Thank you for making these videos! getting into porting android / making ROMs can be intimidating, video guides like the ones you make are a huge help.
I use an i5 3470 for my main compile machine, 12gb ram and 500GB HDD. It builds Lollipop in 2 hours, Oreo in 3 hours, Pie in 4 hours and yea. These are all 64bit phones.
i got 16 gigs ram, and a i5 9th gen quad core laptop. it runs a 500gigs nvme and 1tb hdd. how should i configure my system to do stuff in linux? dual boot? or should i remove windows and get ubuntu only system? because my windows houses itself on the ssd/...
@@AlaskaLinuxUserAKLU ah it is as such, but you see, some softwares only support windows, and with this, life will suck if i become a total linux guy. although i think i might be able to manage windows in vm in linux, though not sure :/
3 to 4 hours sounds way off. I was able to do it in 2 hours with a laptop. That was using the - j32 tag. The biggest issue I had with that setup was over heating.
Did I understand correctly that building Oreo or Pie on 8gb ram will be impossible unless I only build with only one thread = painfully slow? Or is it impossible, full stop?
@@krzysieq82 well that depends on what you think is painfully slow. For me building a full os should take a matter of minutes and anything else is slow. But on my old set up it took, 2 hours to build (always a clean build) which was ok at the time, but not anymore.
@@AlaskaLinuxUserAKLU i wanted to know if there are prereqisites to building custom roms , like any specific coding language or other specific important things . I have just started learning and watched your linux playlist .
@@applecross6870 still learning , havent built yet , but from what i know it would take about 5 to 7 hrs . But take it with a grain of salt , i would post if i have a succesful build .
I have an HP laptop with Intel Core i3-8145U, 12 GB DDR4 RAM, 250 GB SSD & 500 GB HDD, will this configuration be enough to build a single Rom at a time? Can I build the Rom in windows 10 since it is preinstalled?

I personally don't use Windows for anything. So I recommend you ditch windows and use Ubuntu. But that's my opinion.

What does storage taken for Android 10?
Can i use 8gb ram and swap memory (ssd ) ..
What is the difference between build times( 8gb ram+swap(ssd) ) and 16gb physical ram?
Swap will not help, but using zram will. if you check out my telegram group chat, there are instructions for low ram builds.
dont set swap on ssd. it will re-read and might as well wear off ur ssd.
Guess I'll have to wait then
Till i make my own PC
Still using HP 6710b , C2D +3gb RAM 😢
VM or bare metal? I really prefer to continue on VM
Cries with my 4gb Ram laptop.
i too thought to increase the Swap
4GB Ram + 12GB SWAP
😅
thanks you cleared it.
or i would be in a bootloop

The heating is fine , it uses 100% of the hardwares so it'll obviously
@@anshumanxda when I say a heating issue it was over heating my system causing the system to reboot.

what linux system is good for compiling?
Ubuntu is what Google officially uses, so it will work if you use Ubuntu. Other variants work, but Ubuntu is what I recommend. I use 20.04.
