- Hi there! Lots of you folks are going to your hiring events and interviews! I thought I would record a little bit of my experience with the face-to-face portion of my hiring event and how I answered some questions.
This is the video that EVERY FA interview applicant SHOULD watch several times.

It’s like customer service. If you work in a call center, you are always told “Confidence is key, if you believe, they believe”. I worked in the call center for 2 years and the trainers that were assigned to train new people, always referenced my conversations with customers because of my confidence with the info I was providing to them. I have an interview with Horizon Air soon so I’m extremely confident that I would get a offer because I worked with Alaska Airlines before and I know what to say to get the career.

Thank you for validating my storytelling skills. I think I naturally speak with the STAR format when explaining an experience in conversation but when I try to actually remember S.T.A.R. I get anxious then start to ramble 😭 People push the STAR format so much but it’s really not necessary if you have natural conversational skills.

I have my F2F with Delta on March 19th and have never worked for an airline before. I have been scouring the internet for videos and forums to best prepare myself. I love how candid you are and unscripted your answers appear. Thanks for the videos and advice!

Exactly! I feel like the STAR format will mess me all up!! I would probably jump back and forth between the letters and my story would just be a total mess. Thank you so much for this. I see a lot of young people advising that STAR format. But you’re older, you have more experience. And my gut is just telling me to listen to someone that has lived longer. So thank you!! I have my F2F in 13 days.. so anxious !!

I wanted to thank you , I’m 46 and I applied 1 month ago for two Canadians company, and was so stressed out because English is my second language , I watched a bunch of videos to get some confidence but your videos and your voice just calm me down. I received an email this morning from one of the airline I applied and I’m the pool . I’m excited to keep watching your videos , I have lots of studies and work ahead of me but I’m ready .

I think my hardest interview will be the video interview.. So that's my focus. I'm much better f2f. Thank you so much, Steven! I watched this video quite a few times. Though I applied for a below- the-wing position at this time at a legacy airline, the advice is still the same across the board. I prepared my responses in advance, using sample questions I found on Glassdoor. I reminded myself that I belonged there, because they invited me. I breezed through that interview and got my CJO on the spot! Eventually, I will switch to FA. Keep doing what you’re doing, because you are the true Rockstar!

Your personal stories and answers to your interview questions are truly inspiring even though those were just your own true life experiences and feelings. You have some magical way of presenting your information in all these videos that keeps me so engaged!! Thank you for sharing... I have only had one VI far (but a total of 5 applications still in process), just started this journey in October since I have been a stay at home mom for many years, and didn’t pass that point… But I see now I was probably so boring and uninspiring… Your video has made me rethink what I do need to share about myself and to stop just listing if you will, my schooling my previous career blah blah blah! This was great information and so relevant! And you're so funny, I'd love to fly with you! Thank you Steven! I appreciate the comment about letting them know you WANT the job and how excited you are. I have always been hesitant to act eager. Another tip that is related to your final comments where they were texting the recruiter yes or no. I think it's important to remember that we are being interviewed EVERY MINUTE we are at the f2f, even in the casual Q&A sessions. I believe someone is always watching and listening in the sessions and it could be someone you think is a candidate. Moral of the story, don't get comfortable. It is an interview! And be confident but not presumptuous, I say that from personal experience...;)
You're right. The interview starts when you walk in and doesn't really end until you get your CJO. We dont haunt every room during the event, but it's happened where a recruiting member has been in the restroom and heard candidates misbehaving...no CJO for them.
Thank You, I appreciate the tips. Especially your thoughts on the STAR format. I have F/A experience, and have been getting invitations for Video interviews but not landing a F2F because I suck at Star format. I'm more of a story teller too. I will definitely answer completely in a way now where its more natural.
