They phase in and out of a couple different time signatures is the “riff stopping short”. Thank Cliff and Lars for that. It’s more complex than you’d expect for thrash.
If you ever get a chance to delve into the lyrics its just insane how deep this actually goes and the message behind it is as great as the track itself.
I think the big thing with Metallica is that they weren't expected to be the biggest thing in the world, so they had the creative freedom to do what they wanted. At the ages of 23 and 24, they put out this album and it made the Billboard Top 40 without the benefit of radio or MTV, which was impossible back then. This album marked the last time they would be an opening act, as everyone knew this changed the game.
So the lyrics are mostly from the POV of drugs which is the master over an addict who is the puppet. The music is in 3 parts, first the chaos of an addict in search of the drugs they need, then the moment of peace once they get a fix, then the decent back into chaos to find more drugs once their high is over.
Funny thing, about that Sweet Home Alabama comment, Cliff Burton was a big fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd and there is a Sweet Home Alabama reference in their song 'The Four Horsemen', just in the middle of he track.
Time for you two to dip your inkwells in the collective greatness that is known as Rush. Start with - Tom Sawyer. You'll thank me and thank yourselves for doing so.
I don't get why people are so interested in vocals/lyrics. I hate how popular music always heavilly compresses the instruments so that the vocals are much louder. The vocals are just another instrument, they shouldn't take priority over the other instruments. Master of puppets really doesn't need a singer it would still be a banger as an instrumental.
One of the greatest Metallica songs! 🤘 If You want more metal bands suggestion i recomend you reacts to Arch Enemy from Sweden. So funny that you mentioned "Sweet home Alabama". Dave Mustaine of Megadeth (formerly Metallica) tells a story where he played that Lynard Skynard riff and Lars Ulrich (Metallica's drummer) thought it was amazing because he'd never heard it before and according to Dave it eventually made it into Master of Puppets. Well spotted sir!!!!!!!!!
@@reclaimer2019 yeah, the Four Horsemen one is exact same but it's also a modified version in MOP. Nothing unusual there , Metallica tend to recycle a lot of riffs, bridges and fillers
Metallica, Tool, and SOAD cannot be reacted to unless you READ THE LYRICS... yes they are great musicians, but the story and meaning told through the lyrics is what makes a good reaction.
Meh each to their own. I prefer people focus on the music rather than the story on first listen. You can always go back later and tear the lyrics to bits and work out the meaning but the sound and the instrumentals are what sets metal and hard rock apart from other genre's such as Rap or pop.. I mean you can get story and all that from a book or from other genre's you won't get the instrumental journey you get from metal from Rap and Pop though. James himself has stated that he writes the riff first then they put a drum beat over it and then he writes the lyrics.. The lyrics are just the cherry on top. An after thought.

the verse has an odd time signature, alternating between 4/4 and 21/32. that's why it's so hard to follow the beat. every other measure stops short, before a complete 4 beats.

This album marked the last time they would be an opening act, as everyone knew this changed the game.
FYI, the first solo (during the breakdown/interlude) is James (singer/rhythm guitar) and the fast solo at the end is Kirk (lead guitarist).
Everytime I see one of these videos I can tell the difference from youngsters to seniors based on how quick they react. Made this at 3:51
So the lyrics are mostly from the POV of drugs which is the master over an addict who is the puppet.
0:35 LMAO first time tuning in and this is gold
the best thrash metal song of the history
Greatest band in history!
You have to remember back in the day they used a cut and paste type of recording system
6:06 You'd love The Four Horsemen
Please watch this song Live in Seattle 1989. Actually just watch the whole concert, its absolutely face-melting.
Ah, couple dynamics. Thank you!
For the record: Master of Puppets was freaking hard on Guitar Hero. 😄
Currently learning the main solo and it is driving me crazy
Love old school Metallica. This in stranger things was EPIC. Same as, for whom the bell tolls in zombieland. Just love it
They also literally play Master of Puppets in Zombieland 2: Double Tap.
One of the greatest Metallica songs! 🤘 If You want more metal bands suggestion i recomend you reacts to Arch Enemy from Sweden. They are an famous Melodic Death metal band and they have an female singer/growler. The singing/growling is very different compared to Metallica ofc.
Songs like Nemesis, Bloodstained Cross, The Eagle Flies Alone and The World is Yours are some of their best ones.
Awesome reaction,this song is fire!!!
Here are some songs you guys will like for sure:
One, Harvester of Sorrow, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Creeping Death and Enter Sandman.
Thank you so much! We take note of everything
sweet home alabama? maybe try their song "the four horsemen" (studio version) 🤔
listen to this when you're stoned
It's funny cause the original bassist Cliff Burton (RIP) said that riff sounded like Sweet Home Alabama.
Thank You for reviewing Metallica... Us Metallica Fans that have been there From the Beginning Understand this is
One of there best it had the Musical Genius Cliff Burton on it his fingerprints were all over this Album he Contributed to
Nearly every Song and Also he Wrote Dyers Eve On And Justice for all.
This Album is a Masterpiece Musically 1986 i Saw them at Fortress Hammersmith Odeon on the Puppets Tour
Master Of Puppets has helped Many People through Very Bad times in there Lives.
RIP Cliff we Miss you So Much
I´m still shocked on how many metal heads never listened to master of puppets, its likean essential to metal
That was my intro to Metal in early 2000s...
@@sagarsunar as it was for most people, the music that got me introduced to metal was the devil in I, and right next master of puppets
They've put the "Sweet home Alabama" riff on "Four Horsemen".
@@reclaimer2019 yeah, the Four Horsemen one is exact same but it's also a modified version in MOP. Nothing unusual there , Metallica tend to recycle a lot of riffs, bridges and fillers
She looks well happy doing this …
This is like watching Peaky Blinders. I like it, but I need subtitles even though I speak English lol
That Solo part reminded me of classical music like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach.
It’s amazing how many people reviewing this song talk at the exact wrong time….chop your breakfast on a mirror. Hmm
I bet this guy goes for "a cheeky nandos with the lads"
I bought my first Metallica Album "Kill em all" with age 10 =1986 and startet drumming on it.
I recon it`s a matter of age if you grown up with this music or not.....
The Kings 🤘
Under the bridge by chili peppers is almost the same but different addictions
Lol, I discovered this song in early '87 and Cliff recently passed away. I had the chance of mourning Cliff and knew early on, then that Metallica wasn't ever going to be the same, especially when I saw Jason as their new bassist 😣
Thanks lads for reviewing the classic Metallica lineup. Please check out their first three albums, truly classic.
At least Jason could sing. Just sayin...
Right there with ya man. I’ve ❤️’d Metallica since 1984. Got to see them & Cliff during this tour when they opened for OZZY. I’ll never forget it
We need a Shannon Bobblehead. Would be a bonus if her Bobblehead allowed her eyelids to flutter as well. Not completely close and might need to be weighted so they move slowly compared to her head.
BEST METAL EVEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRR
What you're saying at 3:30. About it feeling like they're cutting the riff short. Maybe it's this. There's a UA-cam video talking about this. "Metallica and the Missing 32nd Note" should be found with that, from the channels "Signals Music Studio". It could be that.
Just wondering, have you guys watched Stranger Things season 4 finale?
Shannon is currently working her way through it & Conal hasn’t seen any of it as he can’t sit still for anything 😂
The music represents the addict's journey
Song intro?
the verse has an odd time signature, alternating between 4/4 and 21/32.
that's why it's so hard to follow the beat. every other measure stops short, before a complete 4 beats.
You should react to their crazy lives in 1989
We will add it to the list!
She looked clueless and trying to keep the fake smile in front of camera at the same time
Poor girl
He keep making comments on how the music changes through the song
None of them dig the depth of the lyric
Damage Inc is the best song of Master of Puppets album.
I noticed you doing some Japanese metal. You should react to some old school guys who been putting out great metal music for over 30 years. The band is Ningen Isu...I would start with their song Heartless Scat or Namahage, guys are in their mid 50's and will surprise you on how good they are
We will add it to the list

Gamers Inked must react to Damage Inc… of the Puppets album
