Every time Simon says "Freedom Units" I hear an eagle screeching and engineers crying.
Engineering; don't cry round up.
Except American engineers. American engineers love Freedom Units! Eagle Noise!
Nah engineers just know the measure of both

I spent a week on Svalbard one summer a couple of years back. We did a group hike up the Seed Bank and we all stood by the main door. There are more Polar Bears than people on the island and our guide was armed, just in case. The Barents bar in the Radisson Hotel in the North most public bar in the world, there's no sales tax so the beer is cheaper than mainland Norway.
I really hope they've also included instructions on growing each set of seeds and pollination/reproduction methods too, not just its seed specs lol!
Biodiversity is incredibly important to the survival of all species, be they flora or fauna. We all depend on biodiversity.
Today we learned that Simon either smokes weed or smoked weed in the past.

Depends on where you’re at. if you’re on the west coast...you’re set😎
This video made me think of another interesting topic: The Bundesbank bunker. During the cold war Germany stored an emergency currency there with which they could replace all of the countries cash money within 14 days.
I wonder what happened to it?
@@sallyintucson I was there last year and some of the money is still there, though most of it has been destroyed (whatever is left is worthless of course). The bunker itself is in excellent condition though and definitely worth a visit!

Smoke weed every day! 😀
This is probably the least expensive mega project ever.
Yet the most important. Most other megaprojects are for vanity, this is for our species’ survival.
Video suggestions:
Make a sub series on the seven wonders of the world (modern, ancient and the new ones)
Also, you can make videos on the F1 cars and A380
To be honest the F1 season it self is a megaproject
On F1 cars, I'd like to see a Megaproject on one of these:
• Cooper T43 (first F1 car to be mid-engined)
• McLaren-Honda MP4/4 (one of the most dominant F1 cars ever)
@@jedrzejjakielski1258 even just the cars themselves are a mega project. The amount of time, engineering, and manufacturing processes is crazy

That was a definite laugh out loud :-)
Weird. Cus here in America our government/military has usually disrupted freedom & democracy, in other countries that is, if they lean towards actual democracy or socialism. Mostly in South American countries.
So the freedom unit term is something i have always found funny. My government teacher in high school made me read "War is a Racket" by S.D. Butler. Damn good read.
But as an American it is also rather disappointing
@@jaymevosburgh3660 I think comment was a joke aimed at those of us (primarily the US) who still use fahrenheit rather than celsius. Also, freedom fries. :-) I could be wrong, but that's why I laughed :-)

Ok, I gotta ask: Simon, would you consider doing a Megaprojects video on the Human Genome Project?
Really enjoy your presentations. At my age, I still have lots to learn. Thank you, Simon.
You should do a Megaprojects about the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Dam system!
Suggested that a few months back. So do it Simon.
YES
I live here in Tennessee and I have no clue what you mean? Could you explain, is there something wrong with it?
Yep
The dam infrastructure throughout the USA is generally falling into disrepair. Many failures and more to come.
Thank you very much for the honesty that needs to be conveyed to the mongrels capable of leaving nothing for any organism upon this planet other than remorse. Cheers Simon & your crew, it is appreciated.
In an additional real-life example, a parasite nearly killed off much of the European, Asian and African grape crops in the 19th century, threatening wine production. Look up "The Great Wine Blight" by The History Guy for additional information. Though not necessarily a true food source, I'm hopeful that fruit seeds of all varieties - whether for direct consumption, or for wine making - are stored at Svalbard.
Neil Newhall Apparently non-rootstock grafted vines are still being cultivated in Chile. South Australia and Western Australia were never affected either, but I don’t know if they use grafted rootstock or not.
@@--enyo-- European grapes were saved from the nematodes by grafting them on to naturally resistant American root stocks.

You clearly haven't see Business Blaze yet...😜
Andrew Tovaas Actually I don’t really watch Business Blaze anymore. I used to really like it, but since about June-ish it went from a sort of ‘Today I found out’ format to a ‘TopTenz’ format (irony I don’t watch either of those channels much), and although funny I just didn’t find it interesting enough to watch a whole episode anymore. I know that’s a minority opinion, but to cut a (very) long story short the best channel is very much up to interpretation. Obviously I’m glad other people are still enjoying BB, though. 🙂 Megaprojects is probably my favourite channel as well, followed by Biographics and Geographics.
Also hi from Melbourne, Australia’s freezing plague nexus.
I love the energy you're bringing to your vids! Thanks for the infotainment!
In the game "Frostpunk" there is a scenario where you need to protect seed vaults, like these ones, from a new ice age.
I farm for a living. I see changing in our environment greatly. Notice the word our. We are in this all together like it or not. Seed banks are the foundation of saving mankind. I tell my friends and clients don't eat any food for seven days and then come back and tell how important food production is. No one has taken me up on it. So no seeds no food. Thanks Simon for letting us know the importance of the seed banks in the world. God bless

Talking about the seed vault and just how important it is to the human survive and how much we need crops, made me remember watching a great sic-fi movie Interstellar (2014), (Trailer: ua-cam.com/video/2LqzF5WauAw/v-deo.html ) How the world was no longer supporting crops and farmers were burning the last of their crops as they was giving up. A good (or bad) example was the Irish Potato Famine. Potatoes grown in Ireland had dwindled to only a few varieties, the primary one being one they got from North America. Sometime in the 1840's a serious blight developed in North America in the variety the Irish had become dependent upon. An American merchant vessel passing Ireland which had potatoes with the blight in their food supply, threw potato peels overboard, which washed ashore, carrying the blight. It resulted in potato crop failure and rotting of stores for five years, resulting in huge loss of life in Ireland and the beginning of the Irish diaspora to America. You depend on one kind of potato, it better be one that doesn't get wiped out.
