The Spawn cartoon was better than anything with exception to Batman Beyond. Yeah, although I feel Wesley Snipes’ talent (he acted well in the movie) was wasted because “The Expendables” did a similar take to “Blade: Trinity” in trying to transition/promote a younger ‘Expendables’ team.
Yeah but he didnt do much of shit in the film. BUT Stallone DID look out for him. So no harm no foul. He wanted to make sure snipes remained relevant, cuz Hollywood will bury you.
A seriously underrated movie that Wesley Snipes did was Passenger 57 that movie was intense I was a kid and saw that movie at the theater and said Wesley is going to be a huge action star. I saw it the other day as an adult and said that movie was intense it didn't disappoint even as an almost 40-year-old. I wished Wesley's career could have blossomed as it should have.
Man Wesley Snipes had fantastic roles in great movies. Hell, his charisma turned mediocre movies into great ones. Wesley Snipes was just as good, if not better than the biggest action heroes of his era (Stallone, Arnold, Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Norris, etc) and he had much better acting chops!! I'm not saying that Wesley is a bigger star, so if that's how you perceived my comment, try again lol.
@@atlien1988 I agree with you. That was the thing that he had over all those other action stars is that he could really act. The thing I didn't like Wesley in was like pure dramas or romantic movies.

@@truckinron1929 No, Everyone agreed that Wesley was a problem on production. This is not an isolated incident. David S. Goyer is a comic book fan and wrote X2: X-men United, Blade, Blade II, Blade Trinity and went on to write Batman Begins and Man of Steel. This was his major debut, it is just hard to believe David S. Goyer would try to take Blade away from Wesley considering he has been writing for Wesley from the beginning. What Jade is saying is absolutely correct, Wesley let his emotions get ahead of his head and sabotage production. The best scene in the movie (the interrogation scene) Goyer had to fight Wesley to get his way on.
A buddy cop movie with both of them. Where they both play police detectives would be amazing. They are very similar in terms of acting and trained fighting.
I cannot even explained how I felt when I first saw blade for the first time. I was always a fan of Snipes, but after that movie my respect and admiration for his talent was at another level. I have since watched Blade probably 10 to 15 more times and it never gets old. One of the best action film ever!!
The director tried to "In Living Color" and "The Chappelle Show" Wesley, and got introduced to the wrong side of him. Blade I and Blade II were money makers for Marvel Enterprises and New Line Cinema and they tried to turn Blade III into Blade & Friends with the intent to remove Blade by the 4th installment.
Wesley had a 3 picture deal that was up after Trinity and the studio wanted to do _spin-offs_ not replace Blade. They just wanted to do more movies in-between while they worked out Wesley’s contract. And the white actors weren’t part of the original plan. In fact, the original concept for Blade 3 was a story set in the future after the vampires have won.
@@tawdryhepburn4686 - The studio did Wesley the same way record companies do their multi album release artists. New Line Cinema purposely tanked the 3rd movie as to take away any leverage Wesley gained via the first two movies. Record companies do the same with artists. If the artist has a 3 album deal, and the 1st and 2nd album does very well, they will then under promote the final album on the contract, causing it not to do as well as the earlier ones, which also prevents the artist from meeting all the metrics needed in gaining the max offer of that contract to include any bonuses. It was done to Michael Jackson with his Invincible album which interfered with his metrics of that $100m + incentives Sony deal. Coolio got the same treatment with his 3rd album My Soul, which caused him not to meet his metrics and lost out on several million dollars.
I believe Jack Spade because anything dealing with big budgets is going to have backstage politics. Hopefully people with wisdom and character like you can continue to expose these entertainment executives and studio bosses who conduct business without goodwill for money purposes.
And let's not forget what the Great Stan Lee said about Blade... if Blade wasn't successful he was going cut Hollywood off from making marvel movies. Because Hollywood really sucked at making marvel comic characters into movies... Blade literally saved the super hero movie genre' marvel had nothing on DC Batman and Superman was kicking Marvel's ass for years they couldn't even compete! Then they try and say Blade isn't a superhero movie and classify it as a horror or action film, that way they don't have to give credit and can give it to Ironman (or the X-Men film).
To be fair, Blade wasn't marketed a superhero flick at all. It was marketed as a traditional vampire flick and the majority of movie-goers had absolutely no idea that Blade was a comic book character. I still would like to see them pay homage to Wesley by featuring him as a cameo or something.

it goes deeper than just Wesley Snipes being the reason Blade was a hit: BLADE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COMIC BOOK MOVIES TREATING THEMSELVES AND THEIR AUDIENCE WITH RESPECT AND CARE. Without Blade's success, we wouldn't have X-Men made two years later. On top of that...it was Rated R...nobody was touching that rating for years with a comic book movie.
Apparently, Snipes was instrumental in jazzing up the script of Blade I and II and attempted to do so in III. Perhaps how Blade saved Marvel was by demonstrating that the story and world build was more important than the celebrity of the character or their powers.

This Interview aged well . We're here in 2024 and Wesley Snipes just completed his Cameo on the Dead pool & Wolverine film . Something so unexpected , but was most definitely needed . What made it a great experience was knowing that Ryan Reynolds made the call himself as former cast mates. Even if you take two other black guys, it's still not Blade. Wesley Snipes is Blade, and Blade is Wesley Snipes. There's no other live action superhero character that has made such a perfect match ever before or since.
Marvel was about to go bankrupt look it up until they dropped the first blade movie then after they got the money from that it was no lookin back no your facts before you speak
Snipes' Blade and Blade II pretty much was a successful franchise without the drama behind the scenes. Directors Norrington (blade) and Guillermo Del Toro (Blade 2) seems at ease and working smoothly with Snipes. Only then with the Blade 3 we got the controversies and the drama in and out of productions under the helm of David Goyer. I can subscribed to Jai White's perspective about it. And yes. Blade with Wesley Snipes, rejuvenated the comic book film adaptation especially Marvel IP's into movies... The successes Blade made paved the way for the MCU and more. And with that, much respect to Snipes.
Don't forget Del Toro had issues with Goyer when it comes to writing. And I do recall hearing that Goyer was making troubles to Snipes since first movie. If I recall correctly he was arguing how "Blade should be white" and didn't want Snipes as Blade to begin with. Which is not surprising that Goyer instead of listening to anything in Trinity, as Snipes was leaving some notes of advices on movie set, ignored all of that and sat with two white teens in trailer talking about future of Blade without THE Blade now.
Wesley Snipes was not only black Hollywood but he was A-List Hollywood. Comedic and dramatic actor extraordinaire. I can’t think of one movie / project that Wesley was apart of that wasn’t inherently better or just all out good because Wesley was apart of it. He deserves Oscar’s, Stars and so much more.
I knew there had to be more to the story behind blade 3. Now I get why Wesley was so "difficult" during blade trinity. Those are the things that you never hear about but I understand why he was the way he was during the filming of blade 3
I watched Blade because of Wesley Snipe. Wesley is the best vampire hunter his skills in combat are ultimate. He will never will be replace because he is an icon.
The ONLY two actors that could have pulled off the role of Blade were Wesley Snipes, and Michael Jai White. No one else in Hollywood could have done that in 1998!!!
When the first Blade came out, everyone (white) associated with the movie started talking BIG SH1T in the media about how "crazy" Wesley Snipes was and what a "diva" he was because he took it seriously and stayed in character the whole time, even to do press. Google it. There are videos of these white nerds on the internet laughing about how "silly" Snipes was to stay in character to promote a movie. Flash forward 20 years and Ryan Reynolds, who was in Blade 3, and allegedly hated Snipes for staying in character, makes a superhero movie and does what? Promotes the movie by going around Hollywood IN CHARACTER. The same white nerds start jumping up and down about what a genius idea HE INVENTED! Micro aggressions indeed. Part of the black experience.
He’s not lying and God bless him for saying it! Stan Lee wanted to make Black Panther back then with Wesley as the Black Panther. Studio wouldn’t green light that so they gave him Blade which honestly had a good storyline but he was dressed like a pimp it was trash! Wesley remade Blade entirely and made it a popular character onscreen and in the comic but afterwards the Blade character was styled like Wes in the film. Now it’s recast and they are still trying to erase him it’s BS!
some of the effects and such don't hold up so well in those movies but Wesley does...he straight fucking killed it. I went into blade one skeptical af and came out thinking that was the best thing I had seen in a long time.

Just a little background on Wesley Snipes and Marvel... MARVEL WAS DEAD AND WAS BEING SPLIT UP. SINCE 1989 WESLEY SNIPES HAD TRIED TO DO BLACK PANTHER. SPIKE LEE WAS SET TO DIRECT AND MICHAEL JACKSON HAD STARTED PUTTING UP MONEY, BUT WESLEY AND EVERYONE GOT BUSY. TEN YEARS LATER THEY MADE HIM DO BLADE. BLADE WAS ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO BE A CHEESEY COMEDY, BUT WESLEY HAD TO REGULATE. EVEN AFTER THE FIRST BLADE HE STILL TRIED TO GET BLACK PANTHER DONE BUT WAS TALKED OUT OF IT SINCE HE WAS ALREADY A MARVEL CHARACTER Marvel was so broke they had to use a shell corporation to do the movie called Marvel Knights so that creditors couldn't take money. Marvel was so broke it was selling off individual characters to different companies...
Jackie chan talked about a similar thing to one of his old movie. Burt Reynolds did a cameo and was on the cover of the poster. Jackie said, burt was on camera for 5 min and his name is on the cover
6:24 ... deep moment, glad that Vlad didn’t interrupt. I kinda figured that was the case with MJW not getting big time Hollywood movie deals. Great actor, great movie voice, does his own action scenes, he definitely should be the greatest action movie star of all time. He should be up there with Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Van Damme, Stallone and Schwarzenegger.
I have always believed that Michael jai White Should have played Blade in a live action movie I think he would have make a great Blade He is the one who would be able to fill in Wesley Snipes place
You're right. And wanna know the real messed up thing? Supposedly, the original plot was to take place in a post-apocalyptic world where vampires have stopped playing politics with humanity, and Blade was set to be the final hope of the human race. That idea would have been *amazing!* That is literally where Blade's roots are. But instead, we got Ryan Reynolds popping out middle school jokes, Jessica Biel listening to hip-hop while she fights(which is completely impractical), and pointless side characters no one asked for. That movie was trying sooooo hard to appeal to edgy teens and it missed the point of what Blade was about.
Thanks MJW for standing up 6:31 for Wesley Snipes. I'm so surprised that Hollywood and Marvel studios give up on him. He is one of the great actors. He has big range when comes to his martial arts and weapons. He is best vampire hunter as Blade.
About time Wesley Put out a response Patton Oswalt has been dragging his name through the mud for years. People who get a chance to interview Wesley never ask him the questions people want answers to, like why are you in movies that go straight to Red Box now, when you’re a great actor and Martial artist?
Blade's introduction in the small screen with the classic Spiderman: The Animated Series that John Semper Jr., developed for Fox Kids TV back in the 90's gave attention to create a live action adaptation of the Blade film leading to a series. That show really drew huge attention and a lot of the marvel characters that we are seeing in live action now with the MCU is thanks to that show and other Marvel Animated Universe shows of the 90's.

I cannot even explained how I felt when I first saw blade for the first time. I was always a fan of Snipes, but after that movie my respect and admiration for his talent was at another level. I have since watched Blade probably 10 to 15 more times and it never gets old. One of the best action film ever!!
That is the most humble story I've ever heard about Wesley Snipes. I respect anyone that takes trash out. It speaks volumes.
@@tawdryhepburn4686 -
The studio did Wesley the same way record companies do their multi album release artists.

Sly Stone went through this with Creed. Which is wild because he turned down Carl Weathers for a Cameo in Rocky 6.
Wisdom from MJW is amazing. Applies to Hollywood and in life.
Wesley always has and will have my respect I loved blade and honestly blade trinity just to see him in blade again no one can take that role
All facts!!!!....I’ve felt this for years
Spawn + Blade being buddies is metal AF! 🤘😎🤘
Well done Michael Jai white for standing up for wesley
Just saw Wesley as Blade again on the bug screen in 2024, its lit🔥
The average person don't know this..they had me thinking wesley was difficult...and Hollywood has the power to make you look stupid damn I understand it now
Wesley Snipes is one of the most underated martial artists around. He is the real deal....just like MJW. Wesley made mistakes with the IRS....but I have read it was his agent that dropped the ball with the taxes thing, but I don't know...and I don't care. I still love Wesley Snipes...
great actor and fighter!!!
Weasley snipes is a black belt and at that time was jacked if he put hands on him it would of been a big incident.
EVEN AFTER THE FIRST BLADE HE STILL TRIED TO GET BLACK PANTHER DONE BUT WAS TALKED OUT OF IT SINCE HE WAS ALREADY A MARVEL CHARACTER
Marvel was so broke they had to use a shell corporation to do the movie called Marvel Knights so that creditors couldn't take money. Marvel was so broke it was selling off individual characters to different companies...
Nightstalkers was supposed to be a spin off like how it was in the comics I believe. But Trinity box office scrapped those plans.
I've waiting for this realization for 20 plus years. 1st Blade movie was amazing to me.
I ignored the Blade TV series when it came out. Just recently watched the full series on Crackle, it's actually pretty dope.
I have always believed that Michael jai White Should have played Blade in a live action movie
I think he would have make a great Blade
He is the one who would be able to fill in Wesley Snipes place
Blade was bearly in the movie they was trying to set up a spin off
You're right.
Cameo
This didnt just come out recently. This story has been around for years. Wesley responding is what came out recently.
The fact that someone would ever say to Michael "Too bad you're black, you'd be perfect for..." is TRULY sad and disrespectful. I want to believe Hollywood is colorblind, liberal and inclusive but racism isn't dead. To say otherwise is to ignore history. I'm sorry he had that experience. Thankfully not everyone is like that.
Dude was awesome playing the role of bones. Some of the best fight scenes ever imo
Without Westly and Michael, we wouldn't have the blockbuster comic based movies that we have now. They paved the way for comic book based movies.
Pay attention to what I'm saying....im a black comic book nerd for real......THERE WOULD BE NO OTHER MARVEL MOVIES WITHOUT THE SUCCESS OF BLADE.....The head if MCU said this in a statement...Blade was the jump off....they are rebooting blade with Mahershala Ali and Wesley gave him a thumbs up and approval
Nonsense. You think they never were going to make Spider Man or X-Men?
I disagree. Tobey Maguire's spiderman sarted off Marvel.
@@thekingoffactnotfiction4813 no it didn't...blade started everything....spider man was another 4yrs later....if I find the article I'll post the link
@@fredhall6525 maybe they get made and my opinion X-Men never should have been made with no Gambit but that's a whole other argument....that being said yes they get made but I think they get pushed back but with the success of blade spider man came what just 4yrs later
@@LBoogie-fn5kp Blade did not start anything. Spider-man movies was the forefront for Marvel like Batman was for DC.
The real truth is that Superman and Batman movies started superhero movies.
Michael Jai White Is one of the most iconic martial art actors to ever grace the screen, gotta respect what this man has done with his career
I get his point and when the movie was released I remember leaving the theater thinking it was off that Blade wasnt actually in Blade more but I dont think race had anything to do with it. Wesley wasn't as famous anymore and both of those other actors were each getting very famous at that time so I'm sure they were thinking there might be more opportunity for spinoffs with them. Michael mentioned rambo and rocky but rocky actually did exactly what he is talking about and literally turned into Creed while focusing on the main black character.
Then why wasn’t there another black side kick team member in blade trinity with the other 2 white ones?
That’s not true .. they tried to use the success of blade to create a new show or
They were trying to make a spin off movie which was Night Stalkers which was a comic that involved Blade.
Trying to shift the attention from Blade.
It was pure bullshit they gave David S. GOYER way too much power
He's right about the blatancy of taking the "Blade" franchise from Snipes.
If you watch the actual movie, it is 90% full of Ryan Reynolds being a clown and Jessica Biel being the hard-nose bad ass and Snipes is like the after thought. One source said that they were trying to build characters for a "Spinoff" movie.
What a mistake.
Well Luckily Ryan Reynolds gave Wesley a cameo in Dead Pool and Wolverine and is also campaigning for him to have one last Blade movie
But Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool in Blade and X-men, ended up getting his own Lead movie deal.
Maybe it was a chess move from higher-ups!
He wasn't Deadpool in Blade
Michael b Jordan played in fantastic four and black panther.
He had green lantern he played Deadpool in a wolverine movie then he had R.i.p.d. Some other action movies some horror comedy and also the Deadpool movies but it was cause he became Hollywood’s new golden boy cause he just says yes and kisses ass to b the favorites of those that matter look how hard Hollywood pushed this guy
No. How many years between Blade:Trinity and Deadpool?
Ryan Reynolds struggled to get Deadpool made. Social media helped him.
I'm excited to see Mahershala Ali's version of BLADE.
@@jesushateswood that’s why Hollywood pushed him into so many roles before that to get the star power boost under him action then comedy then comic movies to kinda show he had to all around to put Deadpool together cause nothing else stucc
Wesley Snipes one of the greatest and most versatile actor on the planet. We love you Wesley! A movie with you and Michael Jai would be fire. Now that would be a money maker.
Wesley is a legend i love him as simon phoenix
Interesting. Today when they do that, I just assume they’re showing other characters. Like some characters get their own poster by a bus stop.

Michael Jai white should've played Blades brother or something and had the same powers as him, that would've been badass
Blade 1 was waaaay better than it gets credit for. The end fight was a tad cheesy for sure, but most of the film was far more edgy than Superhero Movie at that time had any right to be. Also Norrington’s direction cinematography and style was quite a bit different than anything that had been seen before certainly in a superhero movie.
That movie doesn’t get enough props
