Installing an Open Flash Tablet V2 Tune on Subaru BRZ + Custom BACKFIRE Tune! (Instructions)

- Here is an installation video on an open flash tablet tune for our Subaru BRZ, this also works for the Scion FRS and Toyota GT86. We do a quick unboxing and then we show you have to download your BRZ, FRS or GT86 tune files and flash them onto the open flash table using OpenFlash Manager. We also create our own custom BACKFIRE tune using ROMRAIDER. Hope this helps someone that wants to get a little extra power out of their Subaru BRZ, Scion FRS or Toyota 86!

My FRS has all the exhaust upgrades and I get great pops at 4000 RPM without the backfire tune. My question is when you change the variables, does it apply to all tunes? Or each tune you need a new specific off set? Its winter, running Stage 2 plus, when warm, wanting to go back to e-85. Please and thank you.

If anyone is on a budget and needs to decide between headers or the tune go with the tune. I got uel headers with stage 2+ and love it but the difference from stock to stage 1 was the biggest difference I thought. Stage 1 to stage 2+ was definitely noticeable but not as much. Huge difference for just 500 bucks

Hi!!! I wanted to ask for advice if possible. I have a scion FRS 2014
I saw your video on this tune. I had a spec d exhaust before, (bought the car used, it came with it). And I got used catless UEL headers on. After the install, the car was a lot slower than before, and I got a used OFT, to do the stage 2+ tune. I also got a cold air intake. The tune made it better, but it’s was a lot quicker before the headers, tune and cold air intake
I have little to no experience doing this. And I’ve seen people’s say that it takes about 50 miles for the tune to set in. Others say that the cold air intake is causing the issue (the tune specs say to use the stock air box, I didn’t realize this). Do you know anything about this? Would it make it better if I remove the CAÍ? Any guidance would be greatly appreciate 🙏

what did you do to the interior to get all the grey plastic carbon? is it just wrapped or is that actual new pieces?
Just curious if this works with an auto Toyota 86 and if there is much maintenance that comes with the stage 1 tune? Any help is greatly appreciated 😁
Yes it should work with an auto. There shouldn't be any changes to maintenance unless maybe changing your oil slightly more often.
I just got an Open flash tablet but I'm having trouble getting it to link to my computer and communicate with the tablet have you had any troubles

I have Tomei catless headers but I have the stock front pipe would I be able to run a light pop tune safely

hey dude .. i'd like to have a pop tune on my gt86 my2017 ... i have stock engine but i have aftermark air filter and exhaust completely free from catalysts ... hks manifold ... bliz and greddy hoses and fiunale ark performance. .. can you help me make the map? I would like that when I go on the limiter at 7k rpm it gives me a good bang but no machine gun effect
Hey i have a quick question when ever you guys were rebuilding the car or fixing it up was it salvage and if so whats the whole process with the inspection..i ask because ive been thinking about getting a brz my self but idk how the process is
Jesus Banuelos it all depends on your state. Here in PA you take it to a shop that does inspection and all they do is take pictures of it and send to the dmv. As long as it “looks” fixed on the pictures then you can register it right away. Some states are a lot stricter tho

Hi there if I go do -15 for pops and bangs but I have mxp mufflers and stock front pipe but I have UEL catless will it blow up my cat and muffler packing????
So I’m thinking about installing unequal length headers, I have a cat back, but stock mid pipes and cat SO technically would that be stage 1 or 2
if you have the UEL headers than stage 2, if not then stage 1.

Do you have a stock intake? I have a Mishimoto intake and a catted header. I'm planning on using the stage 2 off the shelf tune from OFT and was wondering if that would mess up the car..
Should work, they have a file for catted headers (for frs)
It will work but your backfire will be less noticeable since you have catted headers, don't make your tune more aggressive or you'll just blow your cat out.
Finally, someone who explains the process in detail, only question is where do you plug in the cord to connect to the car

So this can be done on any stage bin file - would i be safe to use this video (you seem to have used stage 1) for the stage 2 bin file for my invidia N1 + PSR UEL headers ?
I’ve been thinking that, I think it would be fine, NA cars can only put down so much power without force induction, so you’d probably be fine if you haven’t done it already

What kinda lap top requirements are needed. To only run a lap top for tuning with rom raider and open flash? Will a cheap 4 gb ram laptop work 🤔 or do you need a 8 gb ram

u just download them directly from the website, they provide a wire in ur box to plug into ur PC so u can download them onto ur oft

Different stages are different tune maps for different exhaust setups. For example stage 1 is stock headers, stage 2 is catted headers (headers with catalytic converter), stage 2+ is uncatted headers.
N1 cat back + psr unequal length headers and catted front pipes would be fine with just a stage 2 tune from OFT with everything else stock ?

Would a stage 1 tune with the oft and backfires work on a automatic transmission? I'm on stock headers and stock CAT's.
tbh i doubt it will pop much with stock header and CATS. Ours only started poping nice once we did headers with no cats
No point doing it with stock headers unless you wanna blow out your cats before you hear any backfire.
@@adamali4948 yeah the problem I'm having is I really can't get catless, best I can do is aftermarket catted. I don't really want flames kinda backfires, I just want a pop sound, eg when shifting gears for example
@@AleterixT You can get some pops if you get a catless front pipe and axle back exhaust ( muffler ), I have an Invidia catless frontpipe and Q300 muffler on my BRZ and I can hear some pops in first to second gear change.

Can I still get the pops and backfires with just a catback exhaust?
Yes I’m on a catback exhaust as long as you change your ignition timing in the charts if you follow along with the video you will have pops but for backfire(flames) you need a front pipe

Where did you get your MXL
I had the same problem, on the oft website where you get the ots tune it’ll be 4 bin files and 1 xml file

haha yeah it looks like it up, but its really just a mod my brother did that makes it work almost like a hydraulic brake. Basically its not engaged unless you are tugging it all the way up, and the button doesn't lock it in.
I got rom raider downloaded but its telling me I need to update it. I'm so confused now. It takes me to a forum with 30 links. Any ideas? Been following this video and its been working until then. Appreciate it.

Anyone else's rom raider saying "rom raider already running". I looked in the task manager and its not open in the background.
Fixed it. If it helps anyone, the cause of the issue was Oculus rift was using the port rom raider uses and it thought it was already open from the port being connected to something. Go into CMD and type in "netstat -anb -p TCP" and look for a instance taking up a bunch of ports and close that with task manger.

At the top left corner of rom raider click on definition and manage definitions and then add the OFT.xml file that you downloaded from the open flash website and apply and save and it should allow you to open your tunes

Is it safe to run on a stock 86 with all stock headers and exhaust?
there’s no noticeable difference with stock headers & exhaust. you most likely won’t get burble because there’s cats & mufflers

It does, he just modified one for backfires
Some times you have to manually upload them to the device, takes some time but not hard.

Yes.
But if you dont have catless headers i would avoid this and go for a Throttle Controller instead until youre modded.

man you don't need to shift so agressivly, just fucks up the syncros. If you wanna shift faster you need a lighter flywheel and wait for the rpms to come down.
