Pocket Circuit fighter is actually really good for clan creator fights as his special ability increases your points so you can call for other characters even faster
My understanding of the secret of Onomichi is that it wasn't the ship itself, it's what the ship represented, unrefutable physical proof of misappropriation of public funds at a time Japan was recovering from WWII. A scandal more than enough to kill a political career. Daidoji(the fixer) understandably wanted the ship destroyed, it was Kurusu's decision to keep the secret a secret instead for leverage, showing his commitment by killing of his own yakuza family members. Daidoji agrees to Kurusu's terms, also gaining the reputation of the "The Fixer", someone who can make scandals disappear. However, this in turn only increased the leverage Yamato MkII held, as through his career several politicians were tied to Daidoji for fixing their scandals. Now the knowledge of Daidoji's embezzlement for the ship would not just kill his own career but cause a major political upheavel in Japan by association to Daidoji. This is the leverage Kurusu exploited for his power, and in turn the Saio Triad used on Kurusu. A leverage that only works if the secret is kept as such, hence the efforts of the people in protecting it. More importantly, in the cutscene when Big Lo tells Masuzoe that they can't know about the secret of Onomichi in mandarin, Big Lo ends the sentence by saying "miemie" when it should be pronounced "meem" duh!
I thought it was OK my first run through the game, but after playing it with the Japanese licensed music restored, all the big moments hit much harder. If you play on pc, I definitely recommend playing with the original score.
@@riku582 yeah they removed a ton of licensed songs in the game which made the moments feel a bit weaker, like the scene with Someya and Kiyomi, but those scenes are still amazing
This is the most detailed Yakuza 6 retrospective I have seen. The combat technique makes sense so I definitely have to try it now. Great video as always.
Personally, I feel like Iwami was a fitting final villian. Especially considering he's literally the human embodiment of everything Kiryu hates about the Yakuza. But on a side note, I highly recommend playing the Judgement duology too. They both have (IMO) the greatest stories in the series and they have (also IMO) the greatest combat in the seires too.
Yeah, someone else explained Iwami to me and he started making a lot more sense as a villain. I have/am currently playing through the Judgement games, and they're good, but that's all I'll say for the time being.
I can see what you mean, heck I sort of thought the same thing before making this video. But in making this video I found that with the exception of a couple of moments the story flows well enough. It's just that in my case I forgot some of the plot points that led up to certain events.
I really loved the ending of Yakuza 6, the game may not be the best in the franchise but it was still incredible, especially the last 3 to 4 hours, Kiryu deserved and got a fitting end to his saga
The ending of Yakuza 6 is something that is hard for me to go back to, not because it's bad, but because I get too choked up every time I see it. It's a scene that does its job too well in my case, but I still love it all the same.
@@riku582 I definitely sympathise with you, when Haruto takes his first steps and Kiryu’s last (last in his saga) that hits hard, and when daigo calls him his father, just emotional punch after an emotional punch
42:50 honestly my biggest problem with the story was the boat plot. It felt so disconnected from the rest of the characters. I feel like if Kiryu didn't look for the secret everything would have been fine. My goal was protecting Haruka and her son so when the Chinese mafia fell apart the game was done for me. When the big secret was reveal to be a boat I would speed read the subtitles and skip through the boat parts. I didn't get reinvested until Kiyomi "died" and Haruka was in danger again.
Yeah I agree with that. Despite how big it is the reveal feels very disjointed from the rest of the game that despite being important it doesn't feel like it when you first experience it.
I just finished the video and wow I was not expecting the emotional ending by you. I first came across the series pre pandemic by a foxcade video. During lockdown with time to kill I ended up playing Yakuza 0 and I do not regret it to this day. I ended up watching as many videos of the series as I could. Your videos are amongst the best. Thank you very much for all your efforts in making these videos. Unfortunately I don't have the time to play the series at the moment but nonetheless I have bought the game on both the PC and Xbox. Hopefully I will have time to play them soon. I look forward to whatever content you produce in the future. I am sure it will be interesting as ever.
Since this was Kiryu's last game, I thought it would be appropriate to everyone who enjoyed these videos. Thank you so much, you don't know how much I appreciate that. Well I hope you find some time soon because as you already know these games are worth it. And once again thanks, I seriously appreciate that.
They tried to introduce the whole plot regarding Haruto and Haruka becoming a mother, and thus, a woman, but I feel they massively failed to make it satisfactory. She is 19, and having surprisingly little time of her together with Kiryu, while she's grown up, you don't feel like she has. Additionally, Yuta is not a likeable character, which is insane considering RGG's track record of creating secondary characters. Tthe circumstances of their courtship, too, don't make sense nor do they sit well with me. How long were they seeing one another before Haruto was conceived? A month? And for him to be an accident is idiotic, and for Yuta run away from his responsibility shows that he's not fit to be her partner. And in the end, it's really just plot device that relies on Haruka not being herself, like how they massively retconned her into being meek in 5 so the plot could occur for what was a banger finale, but they still did it. Yet again, she's just a means to get Kiryu back in the saddle at the expense of her character, and to do that, they directly contradict both what she and Kiryu have made clear in both 4 and 5. Kiryu isn't going to run away anymore, as he says in 4, and Haruka doesn't care what it brings, being with Kiryu and their family in Okinawa is the only thing she wants, as she professes to possibly millions in 5. But Kiryu still runs away in the end under the same old delusion that him being out of the picture will keep her safe without respect for what she wants. And on top of that, they only made the very last part of Haruka's motherhood in the game touching, and I really feel that it's out of place. And then of course, they bring Kiryu back for 7, 8 and Gaiden because they can't keep him 'dead'. In this case, they should have played it safwe rather than royally fucking everything up. And finally, I see a lot of people say she should have called him father, but I think she could have called him Kazuma, because their relationship is well past the need for titles, and even before Haruka grows up, she's already taken on an equal share of their relationship, making Kiryu learn a lot, and taking care of the other children just as much as he does. I think it would make more thematic sense, but it's just me. Thanks for the video, mate, cheers.
They keep hammering "don't run away from your problems" as a major theme of the series while that principle is what makes these characters easy to manipulate, and they're cornered to a point that escaping (from anything) is the only choice to protect their loved ones from getting a bad reputation, or worse. If handing yourself to be arrested is the lesson here, it surely doesn't work as your reputation doesn't go away no matter the punishment.
What I absolutely love about Yakuza 6 is how this is perhaps the only game in which even Kiryu knows how strong he is. Telling the Tojo Clan that he'll bury them if they're involved, and outright telling Yuta that he'll tear Saio apart if Big Lo doesn't agree. I absolutely love when Kiryu understands himself about how actually (over)powered he is. Found your channel recently, and watched all the retrospectives. I absolutely love the Yakuza series, currently playing LAD 7. Have played Judgment duology, and eagerly waiting for their retrospectives. Great work!
Oh absolutely, although I'd argue 5 is when Kiryu became self aware when he started causally side stepping rockets. Thanks, I'm happy to hear that, and glad to know you're looking forward to them.
Great video! I enjoyed this one when I first played it, and hearing that you enjoyed it so much on a replay honestly has me excited for whenever I eventually do the same.
Iwami is a great final villian, being an antithesis to Kiryu as a whole. It sucks that people don't look anything past his arrogance cause he isn't 'le honor bounded'. Honestly that what makes Iwami more memorable in my opinion, the absolute scumbags in Yakuza tend to be the most forgetful (looking at you, Munakata), but I feel like the weight Iwami brings justifies his inclusion as the final enemy to Kiryu. Iwami thematically feels like a much more personal version of Shibusawa to Kiryu, considering both made Kiryu so livid that he was driven to bloodlust.
@@riku582 I highly disagree, the whole point of Iwami is that he uses dirty tactics to gain the upperhand. Obviously in a one and one fight against a Kiryu that was out for BLOOD, something we didn't see since 0. Someya was fine but we didn't really get to see his upbringing much like how we saw Kiryu grow from a grunt of the Dojima family to a family man who ultimately had to fake his death to protect the ones he loves. Iwami pushed Kiryu to his absolute limits, both morality wise and physically. Sure he is not as strong as Mine in terms of raw strength. But fuck, it is Kiryu's final battle, Iwami is a dark reflection of Kiryu as a person and to show how far the Yakuza has gone down from its glory days in the 80s. I seriously dont understand why people say that Someya is the final boss to them while completely disregarding Iwami's role in the story, so what if his boss fight wasn't the greatest? Sorry for the essay but it just baffles me on how people do not give any credit to Iwami.
The thing about Song of Life, is that it is a story about Kiryu first as weird as that sounds. As the series progressed, it became about the world around him which is why you got to play as and see different character’s stories. 6 narrows it down and focuses back in on Kiryu and his choices motivations. The over-the-top stuff worked in 5 as a cresting high point in his narrative and 6 works as slower comedown from that. Still dramatic and emotional but much more contained and close to the chest. The main antagonist, Iwami, serves Kiryu’s story, not his own and that’s on purpose.
Yeah, a couple of people mentioned what you said about Iwami. And it makes sense given Kiryu's stance on the yakuza as a whole in 6, but as the final boss it could have been better.
@@riku582 I do agree that Iwami does kind of come out of nowhere narratively. But for me as a player, he kind of works. We have spent so much time with Kiryu. We have bled, lost, cried and stood up again and again alongside him. For Iwami to come along and think he can do to just bc he’s owed it, as players, we can only look at him and say “who does this whiny little bitch think he is to stand against the Dragon of Dojima?” Iwami was willing to die for nothing. Kiryu would have died for everything, his family, that he loved.
@@riku582true, although him being a total asshole made me motivated to kick his butt. Tbh the game was a bit flat midway but it pushed me through. Most villains before were somewhat "honorable", but this manbaby ordered a kid to be kidnapped /assassinated even.
You know what? I must thank you for summarizing the plot of Yakuza 6. It's the clearest I've ever heard it. I remember getting frustrated à lot during my time with the game because some things just didn't make sense to me. I have so many issues with it that I don't even know where to start. But all I'll say is that I didn't enjoy it unfortunately. The ending still breaks my heart to this day. I don't think I've cried that much for a video game, it was that painful. And no amount of subsequent replays or re-watch of the cutscene will ever lessen the pain. I'll say that my only good memories of Yakuza 6 are the soundtrack, the visuals, and the voice acting. Speaking of soundtrack, you and I have the same top 3. Yay! Yakuza 6's is arguably one of the best in the entire series in my opinion. The characters and the overall environment look so alive. When Kiryu first appeared on screen, my jaw dropped. No one has the right to be so hot!!! Ugh! And the voice acting was top notch. I think it's one of the best in the series so far. It kept me engaged even at the lowest point of the story. My only gripe is the casting for Yuta, which I'm a little surprised you didn't mention. Or maybe you didn't know or notice. To me, having the actor who had previously voiced such a memorable character as Rikiya voice a weaker character in Yuta was a bad choice. Whilst the actor did his best to bring the character to life, it fell flat. The call back didn't feel earned. Other issues I have are 1, no last fight with Majima, which is a frigging let down, and 2, the “Yumi is the love of my life“ thing that came outa nowhere. I'm so pissed that they erased Kaoru like that. I could go on a tangent about this but it'd never end so I'll spare you XD. I also wish Someya had been the final boss instead of Iwami. I cried for the dude and I usually don't cry for antagonists, even if I like them. Also also, his other theme, Bloodstained Philosophy, is a goddamn banger!!! Anyway, I absolutely love your retrospective. I'm eager to watch your reviews of the other games. I'm especially curious to know your thoughts on Yakuza: Like a Dragon with the change in protagonist and combat. Keep rocking with your amazing content 👍🏻
I'm glad the video helped put it all together for you. No, I didn't realize Yuta and Rikiya had the same actor and uh, I don't know how to feel about that. I think the characters might be stronger seperate that with any kind of tie in, but I might need to play 6 again to solidify that. Yeah, 6 had a lot of missed opportunities, but for what is there is still pretty good. Thanks, I'm happy to hear it. You'll find out about Like A Dragon whenever I get around to making a video for it. And again thanks I will.
@@riku582 yeah yakuza 3 just uses his voice but in yakuza 6 you're seeing the actual actor's face. i recognized him from the two Death Note live action movies (which are excellent). he played yagami. he was also Shishio in the Rorouni Kenshin movies. i just found out a few days ago that he also voiced rikiya which kind of blew my mind for some reason 🤯
Well, here we are....man this was a LONG run. I never would have expected that this series is going to have such a big impact on me as a person and is going to live in my heart forewer. And to think I just stumbled up on it by pure accident is fascinating. I literally bought 0 in a local anime con when it was already used and I had the exact amount of money as the price. And to think that after buying it I haven't even touched the game for years, and my wife had to remind that I actually own it and I should play it is kinda hilarious at this point considering how much I fell in absolute love with the series. Nevertheless I enjoyed my time in this world and it really changed my perspective on life for ever. It's wierd to say this out loud but Yakuza taught me how to be a man in this world and I'm always gonna be thankful for this to the series. I'm really sad that Kiryu is gone for good as a protagonist, but at the same time, my man deserves some rest after the life he went through, and this bittersweet but kinda fulfilling ending is more than I ever expected him to have. I'm glad I could be a part of this series and the community surrounding it. And thank you for your videos as well Riku, while I played it always felt like I lived a whole life and watching your retrospectives was like reminiscing memories with an old friend who was there on all my adventures. I just finished 6 this morning around 5am and I can't really put my thoughts together. Nonetheless, There are still games in this series we need to dive into (like the judgement games or yakuza Like a dragon) but this was truly the end of an era and I'm always going to keep these games close to my heart. I love discussing these games with you guys, remembering the good times we had while playing and I'm hoping to do so in the future when Riku decides to dive into the other games. Until then, stay RAD you absolute legends. (p.s: Idk of you have maybe a discord server or something Riku but I would love to discuss these topics with you and the viewers as well, maybe we could do a sit down and talk about our experiences with the whole series if you are open to the idea)
I know what you mean. I was still fairly young when I got into the series, so each game managed to leave a sizeable impression with me which colored how I viewed a lot of things in my life. Hey no problem, I'm glad my videos were able to give you that experience. And thanks, you stay rad too. As of now, I don't have a discord. I'm not opposed to having one mind you, but right now it would be me managing it which is a lot to take on with video production, personal life, and other things.
Just finished Yakuza 6 recently and I'll be honest with you. I have tear'd up a bit. Well, I can't wait to hear your opinion on Yakuza 7,and I gotta say. I think you'll love it
Remember how we all thought this was more or less the end for Kiryu? Oh how clueless we were. Kiwami 2 comes out: Alright fair enough, it's just a remake. 7 comes out: Alarm bells start to sound but it's still just a small, yet extremely important torch passing cameo. Ishin! comes out: Another remake, and not *technically* Kiryu, but still. Gaiden comes out: Kiryu now has more mainline games (yes, Gaiden is mainline and I will die on this hill. It's Yakuza 6.5/7.5) than Ichiban on dragon engine. 8 comes out... We're not leaving Kiryu behind, are we?
Good content! I finally found someone who also makes good yakuza essay videos other than Tehsnakerer. You should do a retrospective on Judgment and Lost Judgment, they'd be really good games to analyze because of their stories.
This was another great video and was really enjoyable seeing how your video become more organized compared to kiwami honestly tho i still enjoyed yakuza 3 more then this as alot of story scenes became tiresome but honestly it was still worth it the someya fight will remain one of my favorites for a long time even if he is one of my least favorite characters
Thank you, it was quite an experience trying to put these videos together so it's always appreciated to hear that. And yeah that Someya fight is top tier, easily one of the best fights in the series.
I think they nailed what they were going for. Fantastic music and boss roster, really nice variety of levels, memorable cast, and cool story. Also still one of the best looking Yakuza games to date. Combat when fully upgraded is actually really fun and i like the meatiness of the punches and kicks. obv the dragon engine combat would get imroved significantly but it was a good start. A- tier game for me. The cutscene and dynamic intro before the final boss is still one of my fav Yakuza moments ever
I'm still conflicted about this game, like not seeing or knowing about the Florist, why the Ryudo family couldn't help Haruka in Okinawa, why didn't Tanimura appear when his home was literally burnt or why yet again Majima and Saejima (and Daigo to an extent) had to be put aside to let the plot continue. As a game, Yakuza 6 is amazing, as a Yakuza game... I feel the fear of making specific references to older plots is what limited this game potential, still I'd not call it a bad game by any mean. On a side note, I hope you try & like Like a Dragon, to me, Ichiban & the party won my heart, I know that many people didn't like the game transitioning to a JRPG or that Kiryu is no longer the protagonist, but I couldn't be happier with what RGGS did with Yakuza 7. Nice video as always!
I understand where you're coming from, but for me at least, viewing it as Kiryu's last game instead of a send-off to the world helps out a lot. You'll find out when I get around to making a video for it. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
For me Like a Dragon was a mess, right up until the last chapters. Ichiban was not a great protagonist for a yakuza plot, but a fantastic choice for this jrpg. The very end of the game however salvaged him from "likeable idiot" to a deeply broken and lovely person. I loved how his clothes basically tell us everything we need to know about him, much like Kiryu. Kiryu wears his grey-red combo, an inner intensity matched with outer stoicism, while Ichiban is a goofy, warm, quite intense person who has a deep and reserved inner monologue, as we can see anytime he's left alone by the party
1:58 i believe that many have the wrong idea. Kiryu is not "tired" of that life. The only reason he avoided it was because he wanted to protect Haruka, and later the kids. This plotline reached its absolute in Y5, where Kiryu looks both the most worn-down and draconic at the same time. He was born to lead, to be the strongest, and he feels good doing that but his caring nature and morals wouldn't allow him to really go all out. Had Haruka not been there, Kiryu's life could have taken a far more sinister turn.
4:07 That is more uncomfortable given that Kaoru appears in an infinite wealth trailer in a summoning cinematic that makes me think that it will only be that but seeing that he is wearing a suit that does not correspond to the 2, I prefer to erase that thought but the case Whether she is a secondary character in 8 or not, it does not mean that she has not been forgotten.
Yeah, I saw that and I'm not exactly sure what to make of it yet aside from it being fan service. Hopefully she has a place in the story, but at the very least it's cool to see her back.
Almost finished with Yakuza 3 on the Yakuza Collection, then will move on to 4, 5, 6, and Like A Dragon. I'm considering also playing the Judgement series.
Just finished watching the series, seriously tho, this shit needs more love. Interesting to see if Yakuza 7 will be revealed, but till then, been a great ride.
The reason you probably don't remember hearing Bishop-Violet Velveteen is because in game the song isn't as strong as the album version. you can hear when you're fighting the guys from the triads. (like in the beginning of the game)
Man I screamed of joy when I got to have a boss fight vs beat Kitano.. He's such a legend hands down my favorite Japanese actor.. Also liked how his relationship to his boys reflected the one between kiryu and kazama
I am excited. Played Yakuza's 0-4 and working on 5 now. Kiwami 2 is the only one so far that the combat wasn't a complete shit-show, runaway, dumpster fire. Really excited to get into 6's combat.
Amazing video! I just finished your yakuza retrospective series. It made me remember all the emotions i felt while playing the game, i can't wait for yakuza: like a dragons retrospective. Also what are your opinions on kiryu returning?
Thanks, I'm happy to hear that. I'm cautiously optimistic to see him back, but I'm a little weirded out that they only waited 3 games after his retirement to announce his return.
The gameplay was rough, made slightly better on pc w/ 60+ fps and some mods to remove attacks bouncing off enemies and essentially staggering you. Also found a mod to increase your combo speed to YK2 levels. I thought the story was smaller, less over the top, and great. It was more focused on family themes and it was more personal and small scale, compared to 4, 5, and 0. Hiroshima and the people you meet there were likable, like the Yokohama friend group in Y7.
The more I hear about the pc version the better it sounds. Also yeah I do appreciate how 6 walked the scaling back from the other games, even though it wasn't the best title it was refreshing that the game was centered in 2 cities this time around.
Been waiting for this retrospective ending to kiryu`s story. The Dragon engine in this including kiwami 2 are basically a diamond in the rough at its initial release. and thank god judgment management to fix a majority of its issues moving forward. I first started playing this series in order and kiwami 2 was my first taste on the dragon engine in the PC. and just waited out for the others to be ported in late 2020. and hooo boi 6 is rougher than kiwami 2 but i still enjoyed it to its fullest even with the bugs and issues for its first title in this new engine. I dont know if your gonna do a retrospective on yakuza 7 and also including both judgment games as well and talking about the problem RGG has with the licensing with yagami`s actor and his studio about the copyright thing that they want to port it to the PC.
Yeah, there's not a lot of time between the 2 games, but the improvements are pretty substantial in terms of the optimization. I will in time, especially since that licensing thing might come up in whatever future game the RGG team makes next.
@@riku582 yeah. the game is now beautiful at its current stage and maybe some tiny refinements here and there. i think the licensing thing is only applicable to the judgment games. the main yakuza games are not having issues in terms of actors but only like the music thing but that part is understandable if the music company doesnt want anybody using their songs. i hope that in yakuza 8 they should pick people and studios that doesnt conflict with there plans in like putting the games in other platforms due to the copyright licensing. the main issue was the studio in yagami`s actor not wanting them to ruin his image in the modding community in the PC for both judgment games. people will definitely like put him in the weirdest of clothes and thus ruining his reputation in japan cuz he`s like a well known singer. Its sad that some people including myself cant play both this games in the PC and is amazing. i just dont want to buy a PS5 just to play both games.
Yeah, I can understand that, but honestly I don't think that's a situation they could've realized until it happened, at least considering how all the other actor's company's handled the last 7 games. That would definitely suck if they didn't come to pc. Hopefully Sega can work something out so that doesn't become the case.
@@riku582 yeah. i wish they could resolved that issue for judgement to be ported to the PC soon. one possible solution they could do is what they did with tanimura actor`s face change in the yakuza 4 remastered. its gonna sound a bit stupid but they can make a definitive edition and bundle both judgment games into one package and the same time change yagami`s face and actor.
I think the ben 10 franchise can be interestignto talk to when regarding endings because thare have been 5 series. the most interesting of them regarding endings ight be the original ben 10 as there is 3 separate endings to the series. There is Ben 10 vs the negative 10 that was a 2 part episode of ben 10 villain teaming up, there was the movie secret of the omnitrix that people consider the canon ending of the series, and there was goodby and good riddance that was the last episode aired but was an what if episode that got ignored by future series.
You're right, but I can't say more than that because I fell off of Ben 10 at the end of Ultimate Alien. But I agree that Secret should be the actual ending of the original show, as it moved Ben's character forward, which helps everything flow into Alien Force.
i kept off playing the yakuza games for many years because they seemed so silly, when watching game trailers and such, and it seemed really daunting to have to play so many games if i got hooked. 1 year ago i finally jumped in with yakuza 0 being my first game, and as feared i got totally addicted to these games. in the last year i have played all yakuza games, and the 2 judgment games, cause i could not get enough. The yakuza universe is my all time favorite. i have played all the ´´best¨ story games there is. and no one gets close to the love i have for these games, and kiryu especially. Yakuza aint the best games ever made, and there story aint the best either. (although pretty close sometimes) But there is something about how Rgg create characters, thet in my opinion cant be beat by other studios. especially because it not just 1 character, but a whole roster of them game after game, that they really flesh out and make interesting and fun. and no character, main or side, can beat the love i have for kiryu. something about him catched my heart from first game, and haven't let go. when i saw him in yakuza 7 my heart broke, because even though i found ichiban as a really good main character, and i want more of him. as soon as kiryu stepped into that meeting, i wanted him to take over at just play as him trough the rest of the game. yakuza 6 may not be the best yakuza game of the bunch, but it destroyed me every step of the way because i knew that this was his final game, and i thought i would not see him again. so even though i have my criticism, i still love this game as much as the others, and more at times. so in between every game and after the last, i have scoured youtube for videos about yakuza. and the best ones i have found are Tehsnakerer and you. and everytime one of you make a new video i get the hankering for going back in, maybe even get a platinum in a couple of them, although some of them are pure evil to try and plat 😂❤ i hope you will cover yakuza 7 and maybe judgment to when u get the time. Now im gonna watch the rest of your video, bye! ❤❤❤
I agree with a lot of what you said, Yakuza ain't the best series out there, but they do a lot in just a single game to make you think otherwise. And even as I say this, I can't think of another game series that does as much as these games so consistently, with such a fast production rate. I definitely get where you're coming from, neither Ichiban nor Yagami are bad, but there's just too much history that Kiryu has behind him that can make a person sad seeing him in the non playable category. Seriously, thank you for that. It goes without saying these videos take a lot of time, and to hear that means a lot. I really hope you enjoy the video.
@@riku582 I'm halfway through, and up until now i agree with everything you said and i even learned something new about the combat, so that's nice 🤣 I truly believe it takes you ages with the thought and work you put into your videos. Your community post about posting other stuff was 2 months ago and i can guess you had been working on it for a while before that?😅 I truly appreciate your work. It let's me enter the world i love so much for an extra hour plus it gives me something to think about afterwards. And they day your done with the Yakuza franchise i will be very interested in seeing what else you want to cover. ❤️ But seriously good work man. Your criminally underrated, but hopeful your time will come someday. I'll be crossing my fingers 🤞❤️
Glad I could tell you something new. And yeah, I started working on it about a month or so before I made that post. Thank you, I really appreciate everything you said, and I believe my time is coming now. Thank you again.
I never once had an issue with Kiwami 2, Yakuza 7, or the two Judgment games as far as the framerate or screen-tearing, but 6 gave me HUGE problems in that regard. I don't know why, but I noticed horrible screen-tearing and that pop-in you mentioned, as well as really bad framerate drops, especially in Kamurocho or in small spaces for some reason. I like the Dragon Engine, but for me, 6 is the bottom of the list as far as how it felt like to play for me.
Yeah, for some reason in 6 the Dragon Engine doesn't like Kamurocho. I guess it has something to do with how many npcs are around at once or something, but whatever it is, I'm glad it doesn't continue past this game.
I don't know if you're gonna see this but I think it's worth explaining why the Yamato Mark II is that important: Basically after WWll the US started a demobilization campaign, the Yamato reveals some GIGANTIC corruption inside the Japanese government. It's existence means that Japan violated the treaty with the US. Daidoji at the time refused to accept the unconditional surrender demanded by the US government but after realizing that it would be a futile effort and that he'd incurred in a massive waste of illegally obtained public funds, the Admiral ordered Heizo Iwami to destroy the nearly-completed battleship in order to hide his crimes. Instead, Iwami hid the battleship and started to blackmail Daidoji into giving his company privileged military contracts and political favours. It's less of a war crime and more of a corruption case.
The yamato ship had two purposes: it is a metaphor for the gigantic conspiracy so vast that it seems impossible to hide and its also a gigantic, over the top spectacle which is so ridiculous that it tops all the other ridiculous crap from previous games. The ultimate spectacular twist. it had to be BIG AF and tsuneo being a bit of a manchild makes perfect sense. just look at IRL power hungry CEOs and politicians. Like look at elon musk or donald trump. both are total manchildren.
The "last words" kiryu left to haruka was pretty awful. After he was like a legal guardian to her or a father figure 'uncle kazu' outta say something more like haruka about living her life or dont follow his path or something.
I see what you mean, it could've been a cool way to tie back into his story. But I think it's fitting considering Kiryu didn't think much of himself at this point, so he was done focusing on his past mistakes and wanted her to look forward to her future.
Honestly, I didn't like the Dragon Engine gameplay and it just baffled me that the game's combat could've been like Judgment that has style switching and everything in said engine (thing to note is that I played Judgment before Y6). The story was okay at best, it had both ups and downs like a lot of Yakuza games however this one had more downs than ups especially with the Yamato Mk II thing, because just like you I was also left with a "okay, and?" expression so there's definitely some things that I just didn't like and Iwami being the final boss of the game although it was a cool setup for a final boss felt somewhat rushed??? It's so odd, but it doesn't change the fact that this is one of the few Yakuza games that made me cry so much in the end, I thought the scene with Haruto and Kiryu both walking in sync symbolizing the start of Haruto's life and the end of Kiryu's story was so brilliant, beautiful and outright very depressing as Kiryu never really got to be happy and free with his kids. Amazing retrospective, you've come a long way and I'm very happy to have stumbled upon your channel because you're a rising talent when it comes to Yakuza stuff man, keep it going because like Kiryu, you have a long way to go!
About the Iwami boss, it's been explained to me that he was forgettable on purpose symbolizing how Kiryu no longer holds yakuza in high regards. It didn't make the fight better personally speaking, but it did make sense as to why it's a wet fart of a fight. I don't remember if I mentioned this in the video but while I didn't cry when playing 6 for the first time it took all I had to hold it together, I just want Kiryu to have a happy ending. Thank you, I seriously appreciate that, and I will but I believe the road will be shorter than you think.
The worst crime of Yakuza 6 is not having Haruka call Kiryu her father
Dang, I can't disagree with that.
What? I haven't played the pc version, but that's mind-blowing. I honestly can't imagine some of these scenes without their original score.
Thank you, I'm glad to have brought that to your attention.
I've started playing Yakuza games just last year but I feel nostalgic everytime I watch retrospectives like this!
Glad my videos are having this kind of effect on people.
No fucking way I was literally rewatching your Y5 retrospective vid today, thanks for the hard work and pleasant surprise 🙏
Hey, looks like I was right on time.
Thank you for doing these. You always touch on a ton of stuff I seem to miss. Absolute legend!
No problem, it's what I love doing.
Been looking forward to this Riku! Can't wait to dive into this, your other retrospectives in this series was done so well!
Thank you, if you enjoyed them I know you'll enjoy this one too.
finished this game 2 weeks ago and was looking for your retrospective on this one everywhere, glad it’s finally out
Glad I was able to, upload this when you were still looking.
RGG studio be like : sike kiryu isn't done, 2 games with kiryu
Yeah the 6 year long run back no one expected.
6's story was way hard to get a hold of. I think the writers were thinking to themselves: "How can we one up more plot twists?"
I can see what you mean, heck I sort of thought the same thing before making this video. But in making this video I found that with the exception of a couple of moments the story flows well enough. It's just that in my case I forgot some of the plot points that led up to certain events.
Love your videos as always man, Yakuza 6 is a great game and really underestimated, I'm glad to hear you liked it
Well, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video. And yeah 6 is much better than some people give it credit for.
It definitely hit me by surprise.
Of all the things I thought the “secret” would be it wasn’t a recreated WW2 battleship.
I hope you'll have as much fun as I did because man that 2nd playthrough was great.
Love your videos and appreciate all your hard work, just wanted to say thank for the countless hours of entertainment and great content!
Thank you/ I'm glad you enjoyed all of them
Iwami is a great final villian, being an antithesis to Kiryu as a whole.
I mean sure I can see where you're coming from with that, I just wish the threat level could've transferred over to his boss fight as well.
@@riku582yeah and I feel like someya had a more enticing fight in the end
Fair enough.
@@riku582true, although him being a total asshole made me motivated to kick his butt. Tbh the game was a bit flat midway but it pushed me through. Most villains before were somewhat "honorable", but this manbaby ordered a kid to be kidnapped /assassinated even.
Great video man!
Thank you. I appreciate that.
@@djangofett4879 What he was Shishio? That is some range he's got.
Thanks for this vid! I have now completed all mainline yakuza games :D
Yeah no problem. Glad you enjoyed it.
Can't wait for the rollercoaster that is Yakuza 7!
You and me both.
Just finished Yakuza 6 recently and I'll be honest with you. I have tear'd up a bit.
Well, I can't wait to hear your opinion on Yakuza 7,and I gotta say. I think you'll love it
I've actually already beaten the game, but that's all I'll say on that.
@@riku582 Can't wait to hear your thoughts. Keep up the good content
I appreciate hearing that. And yes, I plan to cover those games in the future.
Cvit, though he takes a while to upload new videos, has both retrospectives on Yakuza 1 and 2. Excellent videos.
Great video, good sir. Waiting for like a dragon ^^
Thanks, I appreciate that.
I agree, 6 for a game with a lot of new implementations, 6 knocked it out of the park.
The title makes me think of How To Train Your Dragon, except Toothless’ model broke mid-animation.
Sure I can see that happening.
I can’t believe this just came up after playing the first few hours of Y6 for the first time.
Looks like I'm right on time.
We just going to ignore haruto floating in the air at 53:05?
Holy crap, I never noticed.
@@riku582in my case, i prefer more a cameo
Almost finished with Yakuza 3 on the Yakuza Collection, then will move on to 4, 5, 6, and Like A Dragon. I'm considering also playing the Judgement series.
Hope you enjoy you're time with them. Also Judgment is super good too.
Just finished watching the series, seriously tho, this shit needs more love. Interesting to see if Yakuza 7 will be revealed, but till then, been a great ride.
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed them.
The reason you probably don't remember hearing Bishop-Violet Velveteen is because in game the song isn't as strong as the album version. you can hear when you're fighting the guys from the triads. (like in the beginning of the game)
Okay, that makes sense. Thank you for telling me.
Man I screamed of joy when I got to have a boss fight vs beat Kitano.. He's such a legend hands down my favorite Japanese actor.. Also liked how his relationship to his boys reflected the one between kiryu and kazama
I was and still am not familiar with a lot of the Japanese actors present in Yakuza games, but I'm glad you were able to enjoy their appearances.

fairly sure that Bishop-Violet Velveteen *was* a basic enemy track in the BETA of Yakuza 6!
That's some energetic music to be used for basic enemy encounters.
Interested in seeing what you think and have to say about like a dragon
Glad to hear it.
4:02 if i think Kaoru got agela crossed. At least she is now a skin in ranbow 6
It took me a while to remember what character you were talking about, but you're right. Also, what was that about skin in rainbow 6.
Tatsuya Fujiwara got to voice two different characters in the Yakuza series and of course…
Takeshi Kitano is in the game
I didn't catch that when I played 6, but now that it's mentioned I can't not notice it.

I mean if worse comes to worst yeah that is a solution.
But I agree that Secret should be the actual ending of the original show, as it moved Ben's character forward, which helps everything flow into Alien Force.
great video, when is yakuza 7
i kept off playing the yakuza games for many years because they seemed so silly, when watching game trailers and such, and it seemed really daunting to have to play so many games if i got hooked.
(although pretty close sometimes)
But there is something about how Rgg create characters, thet in my opinion cant be beat by other studios. especially because it not just 1 character, but a whole roster of them game after game, that they really flesh out and make interesting and fun.
and no character, main or side, can beat the love i have for kiryu.
something about him catched my heart from first game, and haven't let go.
when i saw him in yakuza 7 my heart broke, because even though i found ichiban as a really good main character, and i want more of him. as soon as kiryu stepped into that meeting, i wanted him to take over at just play as him trough the rest of the game.
yakuza 6 may not be the best yakuza game of the bunch, but it destroyed me every step of the way because i knew that this was his final game, and i thought i would not see him again.
so even though i have my criticism, i still love this game as much as the others, and more at times.
so in between every game and after the last, i have scoured youtube for videos about yakuza. and the best ones i have found are Tehsnakerer and you. and everytime one of you make a new video i get the hankering for going back in, maybe even get a platinum in a couple of them, although some of them are pure evil to try and plat
😂❤
i hope you will cover yakuza 7 and maybe judgment to when u get the time.
@@riku582 I'm halfway through, and up until now i agree with everything you said and i even learned something new about the combat, so that's nice 🤣
I truly believe it takes you ages with the thought and work you put into your videos. Your community post about posting other stuff was 2 months ago and i can guess you had been working on it for a while before that?😅
I truly appreciate your work.
It let's me enter the world i love so much for an extra hour plus it gives me something to think about afterwards.
And they day your done with the Yakuza franchise i will be very interested in seeing what else you want to cover. ❤️
But seriously good work man.
Great video, liked it but no one told you about how good the charge moves were in this?
Uh, I think Manly mentioned them, but I was so focused on quick step cancels that I never got the chance to mess around with it.
Honestly, Yakuza 6 made solidified my hate for Haruka.
Finally!!!
Kept you waiting, huh?
For the combat peeps: 10:28
Now I don't know if this is really his last flight.
What are you talking about.

@@GoodOlFiddle Oh right, I forgot that got announced.
How did i miss this??
Glad you found it.
The end Of KiryuXMajimaR34 Tale……
I don't know if you're gonna see this but I think it's worth explaining why the Yamato Mark II is that important:
Basically after WWll the US started a demobilization campaign, the Yamato reveals some GIGANTIC corruption inside the Japanese government.
Yeah, that makes much more sense now. I appreciate you explaining it.
Will you be doing Like a Dragon Gaiden?
Not sure yet, I'd need to play it for myself to see.
Next should be Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise (or Dead Souls).
Uh, I already announced the next game I'm going to cover will be Judgment.

The yamato ship had two purposes: it is a metaphor for the gigantic conspiracy so vast that it seems impossible to hide and its also a gigantic, over the top spectacle which is so ridiculous that it tops all the other ridiculous crap from previous games. The ultimate spectacular twist. it had to be BIG AF
and tsuneo being a bit of a manchild makes perfect sense. just look at IRL power hungry CEOs and politicians. Like look at elon musk or donald trump. both are total manchildren.
Fair enough.
Yeah, Tsuneo being a man child makes sense in retrospect.
@@riku582 it's the most Kiryu way to say "go be happy with the people you care about", he's always been self-sacrificial to make others happy.

>Final Kiryu game.
Boy, that sentence aged poorly. Still, it was nice to see 6 as a proper ending.
I mean it was for like 4 or so years and then they decided to bring him back.
