    In this music production video I am going to show you how I really make melodies when I produce music without really knowing music theory. Now I never talked about this in detail because it's hard to explain and that's why I am also going to show you an alternative way to make melodies that is way easier and you can try it out right now! We are using FL Studio 21 for this in pianoroll. But you can learn something new even if you have another DAW!
    Highlights:
    0:00 - Start
    0:25 - Hard Way (how I do it)
    5:14 - Chord Inversions
    6:35 - Learn From Classes
    7:00 - Ear Training Course
    7:30 - Easy Way (The Alternative)
    10:15 - Useful "Transpose" Feature

    1:55 For anyone wondering, this concept is called voice leading, and is being done by inverting the notes so that they follow smoother individual lines. Inverting the chords themselves is a little different. That's where you invert the root, the bass note. So if you invert an Amin once, you'll now have C in the bass making it am/C.
    If you have ever tried making more complex chords, especially tension filled stuff like altered dominants etc. and they would sound off, it's because they need smooth voice leading. You can make many things sound far more passible with just voice leading and it makes borrowing from other keys and modes sound so much better.
    Don't neglect the power of Open Voicings either. The two make a power-duo in making beautiful sounding chords.

    Arcade hello!
    I am SAGGYRIT!
    I started production around a year ago and was not able to make a single melody. But I wanna tell you. It only depends on how much time you put into it. And probably playing it by ear is the best method! Which I still struggle a little but definitely I have progressed a lot than what I was a year ago! So keep practising and you will be there!

    I already make melodies and chords by ear. I can hear the different tones and often I'm able to just know by now where my next notes are.
    Sometimes I can tell by looking what note I'm humming and what note that is on my screen. Sometimes I have to move the note around to lock onto what I'm humming
    What I've started doing is setting a major triad randomly on the grid, and building off that do I know what root note (what is my dominant) and it helps me build chords
    Which is my fifth chord? What minor chords do I have to work with?
    The biggest problem I'm having is getting darker more dissonant chord progressions

    You use that SM58 for vocals and voice? I consider buy my first mic to vocals and voice but still can't decide which. Do you recommend some mics? That SM58 is good for recording? I heard that dynamic is more suitable for live performances than recording vocals.

    • @ArcadeFL
      @ArcadeFL  Рік тому +1

      I use it for both. But for videos I think lav mic or something that you can have further away is better because you can move around more without worrying about uneven audio. I am planning to switch to a different mic.

    • @AutPen38
      @AutPen38 Рік тому

      It depends on what kind of singing you do (the SM58 isn't ideal for gentle ballads, but is a go-to for rap and other aggressive styles) but it's the most famous and popular microphone for a reason. Countless singers have recorded with SM58s, even in studios where Neumann condensers worth thousands of dollars were available. It's obviously the industry standard for live work, but it's damn good in the studio too. SM stands for "studio microphone". It's less good than condensers for things like podcast conversations, but if you're standing with it a couple of inches in front of your face, it's fine.
