  • Our VW Crafter mechanical problems just keep getting worse, after figuring out our mechanical problem was not our alternator, we need to see whether our mechanical issue is something much worse - whether our timing belt needs replacing...!

      Ryan did an awesome job it was great to be able to see how the repairs were done, it's totally worth the drive to get to him 😄

    4 hours round trip well spent when you get that kind of service, recommendation is always the way to go when considering any tradesman, great advice from mechanic regards timing belt and water pump change out, and the brakes, bonus. Fingers crossed that's all your mechanical issues sorted. Nice video and Ryans mobile 👍

      Brilliant mechanic and despite it being alot of parts, can't argue when it's needed and the job gets done properly 😉

    12:50 my favorite montage starts -- it has been a while since the time lapse build music has been used. You always used it when things were getting done.

    Living in a van is still cheaper then maintaining a house.

    • @FreedomStrider

      It certainly is, though it's a cost when the mechical repairs pile up ☺️

      @@FreedomStriderI would be happy to live in a van. if I spent $2,000 U.S dollars every 3 months or so on van repairs I would be pretty happy. I spend more then $2,000 every single month on rent and utilities.
      Also I still have a car payment and maintenance and fuel costs.

      so true, especially when the majority of sticks and bricks dwellers have a vehicle anyway, seems pointless to have both expenses to me, my choice is to have one and not the other and I live my life because of it, not just live.

    Good job on replacing the hole lot👌🏻 make shure you change the oil on a regular base,30K km this prevents a lot of trouble

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Рік тому +3

      Aye, we do oil and filter changes every 20,000km, this was probably a service job needed and all should be done now for a while I hope 👌😊

    I'm glad everything seems to work now! I hope you can finally relax and enjoy.
    He seems a thrusty mechanic. Does he works in other brands (like a Ford Transit)? Or it's only for Mercedes?
    Also, I think you went to one of the Quicky's camp, do you mind me asking if cats are allowed there? I only see a "dog pass".

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Рік тому +1

      The mechanic has a lot of experience with Mercedes and VW but an engine is an engine so you can give him a call and he'll let you know if he is the best guy for a Ford 👍

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Рік тому +1

      And yes, cats are allowed at camp Quirky, you just don't need to pay for them. Dogs tend to need walking and such whilst most cats just stay in the vans with the bustle of the festival going around them 😉

    You've prompted me to get my van serviced 😂

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Рік тому +1

      We hadn't had a service since buying the van, so this is it's first I guess and enough parts to keep us running for a long while 😊
      Indeed Ryan is a good mechanic!

      @@FreedomStrider I'd definitely get it serviced if you've had it for a few years and drive a lot of miles. It's a relatively inexpensive job that is integral to the health of the engine.

    Do you have to remove the alternator to get to the tension wheel fixing bolt??

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  11 місяців тому

      Technically no, but the alternator is in such an awkward position that it's quicker to remove the alternator than try to manoeuvre around it to loosen this bolt (from what we were told)

  • @zambotv8150
    @zambotv8150 Рік тому +2

    That's why I prefer Sprinters, they use timing chains instead of belts

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  Рік тому +1

      Technically the chains last longer, but they are harder to replace and for a vans life even a chain will, probably, need replacing, so they both have their plus and minuses 👍

      @@FreedomStrider you did the right thing doing everything in one go... That will give you peace of mind for a few years, I lost two LT35's due to a cambelt failure and a tensioner locking up... They're great engines if maintained properly

    • @stevel1451
      @stevel1451 7 місяців тому

      Sprinters have lifetime timing chains at the rear of the engine. Our 4 cyl 316s do 1 million ks before we replace them.

      Damn, the only other chain engine is our friends Ford transit and their chain went at 110k miles
