I actually replayed the first Witcher recently, and was shocked to see how complex it was despite its age. Npcs moved around the city as time of day passed, or stood under roofs when there was rain outside. Some Npcs had dialogues with one another that was completely unrelated to any story or quest, but it made the areas feel alive. And it had so many uniquely animated sequences just for specific moves in cutscenes used only once, most other games even today would simply not show. Like when Geralt throws his sword to the ground and surrenders to the city guard. Fully animated and it's like 0.2% of the entire game. Or when Eskel and Leo were sparring in Kaer Morhen. They weren't just waving their weapons around, it was fully motion captured and animated. And it's in the freaking background of the actual cutscene.
I mean, I love Dragon Age Origins, but it came out 2 years after the witcher and had none of these. Not even Inquisition.

I'm not sure about the others, but the Garasham crest is somewhat relevant to the Uí Néill crest. It is the Red Hand of Ulster and was believed to have originated from a contest to claim Ulster, as first to lay his hand upon the land would own it. The winner chopped his hand off and threw it onto the land, thus winning the contest (Similarly to Dettlaff?). Interestingly, depending on the source it was the chieftain Érimón who did it. Though this similarity to Ermion could be a coincidence, Sapkowski liked to draw on Irish/Scottish names and folklore a lot.

3 things which i discovered recently
    - at the start of Novigrad, when we have to visit and have a talk with Dandelion's "girls", there is change in dialogue with Molly, Vespulla and Rosa if we visited them third in order (Marabella, and Elihal are not required to finish quest)
    - at the begining of Vegelbud's quest when we have to meet the blue weared guy, there is different dialogue if we already met Elihal or not (with Triss, at the end of conversation)
    - when we meet Horst Borsody for the first time we can tell him that Olgierd told us about the Maxilimian Borsody's house or not. Horst will reffer to it at the end of heist if we killed Ewald and started negotiating with Horst
also 2 things which I am not sure how to qualify
    - when we have to follow the thief to find Bedlam, we are sometimes getting interrupted by a beggar in madame Irina's theatre, but I don't know what is the trigger for him, because I tried it few times and he sometimes does it and sometimes not
    - In fist fight mission in Novigrad we have to fight captain Mortimer and Geralt sometimes says that he and captain met each other before, but I can't remember him. Visited witcher wiki for this Mortimer guy, but only mission when he appears is fist fight in Novigrad so i don't know. Maybe you will know something else
no clue if there is anything new for you, but would be great to share some interesting witcher 3 things with you:D

The Uì Nèill crest was the crest of Hugh O'Neill , who lead a 9 years long rebellion against the English forces in Northern Ireland in the 1600's. After his rebellion the north of Ireland was subjected to heavy plantation of Scottish settlers who were loyal to the British crown and is one of the reasons why the north of Ireland is still part of the UK. Also Uì Nèill is the Irish way for spelling the surname O'Neill, which was actually banned by the British crown after the rebellion. It's the 9th most common surname in Ireland. The woman and children who speak Welsh, could well be from Wales. You know the one next to England. It is in Witcher lore people sometimes jump to our world. I believe it was in one of the books, Ciri actually lands in Europe briefly, and even brings the plague from there. I do not remember exact details, but it was there.
The name of the quest, along with the man being completely sure Geralt would not know about this place, suggest they might be from a land really far away.

    • @Tomcat_Coyote

Kinda makes me wonder sometimes if he wasn't meant to have a bigger role in the game, but due to time-constraints, they focused on other more important NPCs.
Because i'm getting that vibe from his character, a few others, and then some in Cyberpunk as well, like Meredith Stout, if you've played the game.
There's clearly a lot of effort that went into their design, they're very unique NPCs, have dedicated Concept Art, in this case a very very specific voice too... But then they're criminally underused. And as someone who studied Game Art for a few years, it just doesn't click. Doesn't make sense to "waste" such efforts on a character you're not going to use all that much.

While I can see the similarities between the Gharasham and Tdet tribe symbols to those Irish and Scottish houses, I actually think Ammurun is based on Camazotz, the Mayan Bat God of Night and Death. He is often depicted holding a knife that is dripping blood, and considering ‘across the sea’ seems to hint at the New World I think it’s a more fitting reference.

Despite showing zebra, the coat of arms looks very Continental (i.e. quasi-European), zebra itself doesn't have to mean they are from African-like land. The fact that they choose to flee to Tussaint also shows that they were from country that either had some connections to Continent or it was even located there. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if they were from some distant Nilfgaardian vassal state - In that case, exile in another imperial vassal state, that's ruled by emperor's cousin and whose semi-independence and neutrality is well respected by everyone, would be a great choice. Escaping by sea and going around the continent would still be probably much faster and more practical option that traveling on land.

    • @JETWTF
      @JETWTF 2 роки тому +1

My theory too, but without the Nillfaardian vassal state status. Zebra on the crest could be due to royalty using zebra's to pull their fancy royal carriages because they are exotic, making zebra's a symbol of money and and power just like using lions on a crest shows great power and strength. Lions are as much European as zebra's are. Possibly an inland sea region of the continent on the east side of the mountains like the black sea on earth just making it to the wider oceans in the north rather than south and they are from a northern realm bordering it and has distant trade ties with Toussaint but are not exactly on friendly terms. Toussaint being a huge wine exporter it would make perfect sense for this unknown realm to have heard of it and the fairy tale stories about the land. Since they are running away it would make no sense to run from vassal state A to vassal state B, they all have very close ties and a runaway prince would be found out almost immediately and due to being vassals returned. Hearing fairy tale stories about the land and it isn't on friendly terms makes perfect sense, what better place to hide than a land that boasts about fairy tale chivalric values where you can get sworn to the death protection and not being on friendly terms you don't have a whole lot of people from home there that would recognize the prince.

"From a far far away land" quest name contradicts your argument.
Couldn't they be like slaves or something to the Ofieri/Zanzibar lords (or equivalent)?

@@ruffusgoodman4137 That depends on what you consider "far away", A month at sea going across the north to get to the port from Novigrad or Skellige can be considered far away, crossing snowy year around mountain passes could take even longer. Completely missed the dialogue about Neutrality in Vizima in my first playthrough. Not going to lie, mostly because i wasn't overly preoccupied about exploring the Palace, didn't really want to stick around, and i never thought i'd see any of those Nilfgaardians again, aside from Emhyr probably later.
But after my first playthrough, despite him being a rather minor character, Morvran grew on me for being that odd amicable Nilfgaardian that you keep bumping into in Novigrad and Vizima, so i wanted to make sure i hadn't missed any encounter. You can also ask him (some time after the Masquerade) if he did find the friend he was looking for at the Vegelbud Estate.
It's also (curiously?) the only time i can recall hearing a partial conversation fully in Nilfgaardian, as opposed to the occasional odd words being thrown here and there, or the warnings from the Soldiers.

That conversation about neutrality with Morvran Voorhis, heh :) the sarcastic reply of Geralt, about "some werebubbs" hehe a funfact is, this is anglicised name of a race of creatures, beings known in Polish as "bobołaki", they were mentioned in the Witcher 1 by Julian in Murky Waters in the story of his grandpa from Kovir who apparently had "collection of bobolak scalps under his mantle", these bobolaks/werebubbs are actually mentioned as creatures in the books, in the short stories (In The Witcher, by Velerad and I think in A Little Sacrifice by Essi Daven as the victims of human persecution and slaughters, as well as by Stregobor in Lesser Evil, as the one of the cultural sources of Eltibald's famous prophecy, legends of bobolak/werebubb people, which shows they were sapient race with rich culture), but the actual appearance of a bobolak/werebubb characte is in the story The Road Without Return, about Visenna, Geralt's mother, there a bobolak named Kehl appears, a member of this dimunitive hairy humanoid race :). One almost wishes to have a bit more on the bobolaks/werebubbs in games, in any case the race of Vrans received more attention in video games :).
It;s also interesting to note that the future emperor Morvran Voorhis and 'future husband potential' (over Geralt's dead body :)) is talked about in the books:
""Forgot about historical development," the sneezer’s voice said soothingly. "For the moment, at least. First, let me draw Your Excellency Chancellor aep Dahy’s attention to the person of Prince Voorhis - mainly the fact that he is a man of iron character, proud and stubborn, who will be difficult to influence."
"If I can make a comment," the syllable stretcher came forward to speak. "Prince Voorhis has a son, the little Morvran. He is a far better candidate. First, he has a better claim to the throne, both on his fraternal side and maternal side. Second, he is a child, so the Regency Council will rule in his place. So, us." Witcher, The Lady of the Lake, this theoretically should mean he was somewhat younger than Ciri, who at this point was what...14/15? Though obviously the games take place some 5 to 7 years later?
The far away land quest, the crest with zebra kind of reminds of the Ofir and Zangwebar, where these "white horses with black stripes" live supposedly :), though hte Ofieris we meet in Hearts of Stone and Zangwebar would be the potential source of black people (like the exotic dancer in the books Leila the dark skinned woman that was an attraction in Gors Velen in the book, Time of Contempt, Zangwebar and Ofir would be THE African-esque countries in Witcher world, while the eastern Zerrikania wiht it's steppe peoples reminds more of Scythians and that sort of thing, plus the Amazonian mythical female warriors were believed to be from somewhere near to Black Sea which was region that was frequented by the Scythian invasions and raids in real world), but these folk are rather ligh skinned, the woman, the warrior and the child seem in appearance pretty ordinary. Other lands are mentioned though like half-mythical land of Hannu and Barsa (which Dandelion mentions in A Little Sacrifice a land where women are chaste till wedding by custom :)), they cannot be Haak people, from Haakland, for these appear to be semi nomadic like many of the Zerrikanians, who are renowned riders and archers (one can imagine that Haak invasion in the future will be some sort of equivalent of Mongol invasion in witcher world).

You can really see how the devs. loved this project, the attention to detail is just amazing and in places they really didn't need to.
Like the sauna scene with Ciri in Skelliga, how they gave the older mother a nice but older body with slight stretch marks because she is a mother. It's a tiny nothing that most people probably never noticed, but as a mother I did without even thinking about it until a much later date for some reason. I like care taken showing the reality of life even in this fictional Germanic/Slavic lore world. They had a pretty good balance between what was real life for the time period and the fantasy part....of course the writer of the books did much of their work in the story and world but they had to make it into a game that people loved.
Sad how so many have gotten it so wrong lately and I don't think that it's because of the actual artists/devs....greed is a nasty thing.

Don't know if this was mentioned yet but regarding the zebra crest. This is what I found on the Witcher wiki. "Dirgelech was a monarch of a far-off land, located somewhere far west of Skellige, who usurped the throne for himself. He then sent several men after Viki and the crown prince, with the idea to bring home the prince, likely for a public execution." So I guess the woman is trying to bring the little prince in the opposite direction thus Toussaint.

I don't know if someone actually wrote this in comments, but I have something to say about this quest "From a Land Far, Far Away". This woman and child are probably from Ofir or Zangvebar. You showed zebra crest and in book Sword of Destiny ther is actually a mention about zebras. In polish it was "Nie w tym rzecz. Za morzami, w Ofirze i Zangwebarze, są białe konie w paski. Też nigdy ich nie widziałem, ale wiem że istnieją." which means something like "...Overseas, in Ofir and Zagvebar, there are white striped horses...". I want also say that in the Witcher books, author mentioned four distant lands and we known them only by name: Ofir, Zerrikania, Zangvebar and Haakland. Sorry for my english but I hope you can understand what I mean. Love your work

xLetalis, I'd like to add that merchants in TW3 actually SAVE your transactions and do not refresh unless (experienced just twice) they finish their travels until their home city/village.
I'm not sure, but if you manage to sell your items to a merchant, you kinda lock his inventory to your previous items + what he had, money included.
I used to sell trinkets and materials to them in order to raise a bit of money to repair armor and craft some.
Until the end of the game, most merchants wouldn't refresh at all. Which was annoying since I wanted alchemy materials from them.
Not sure if you noticed that before

Just to add onto James Ryan's comment, the coats of arms do have meaning. Also with Irish surnames, the prefixes are basically like "son of" or "wife of". O'Neill means son of Niall.
Uí Néill (English: O'Neill) There's usually a few variations of a coat of arms. The full O'Neill crest you have blue for loyalty and truth, red for military fortitude, the estoile meaninging a symbol of God's goodness, a fish which apparently means Christ, and 2 lions holding up the hand meaning deathless courage. The hand itself is a symbol of justice, sincerity, and faith. Although as far as I know, the contest James talks about was to own the whole of Ireland and not just Ulster.
Kirkpatrick again you have blue for loyalty and truth, gold for generosity, and they hold values like achievement in battles and wisdom.
Uí Floinn (English: O'Flynn) again blue has the same meaning, you also have a bezant representing a gold coin and showing the person is worthy of trust, and the wolf symbolises the rewards of perseverance in long sieges or industry.

I don't know if it will be new information, but I noticed that if you did a quest at the beginning of the game, specifically in White Orchard, the /Old Ladies' pan/ quest by the beach, you get to tell Thaler later.
I found him in Velen inside an Inn in the back, he was part of one of the Gwent quests (you needed to win a card from him).
Sadly I don't remember the name of the Inn, but it was near Novigrad outskirts, just across the river from the "paint maker" part of the city.
Also, this is the place where you follow Lambert after you run into him on an Ekimara hunting quest (this is from a notice board, and the local guards paying you), but then he breaks and kills one of the quest givers and you need to run after him
There Geralt told him something like
"I have found an old lady at your house looking for her pan, needed to break in for it."
This was after I ''saved' him from the trolls when he was a shoe-maker - I managed to make him come with me without bloodshed
(part of the King assassination quest from Dijkstra, although they have just started to make the plans at this point)
So altogether nothing real game-changing, but it was another nice catch from the Makers and a dialog that made the game more alive.
Hope you can find it even with these informations.
    Amazing video btw, great job!

About the final part. While indeed the "zebra" (I put it in quotation marks since while it's a zebra by real world standards, in the Witcher universe they might call it something completely different and what they call a "zebra" in a fantasy world doesn't necessarily have to fit the real world counterpart) on the crest suggests a warm exotic land to the south or the east, since this is a fantasy game it really doesn't have to be (they can make up that those are just black and white horses, and the white color of their fur helps them to camouphlage in snowy parts or smthn like that lol).
The only logical idea for me, one that I got when playing and never even doubted, is that this land they hail from is further west or south/north-west of Skellige.
I mean, they are coming FROM that land and going to the Continent, to Toussant to be more precise. So it would be pretty weird if they somehow went from Zerrikania and then missed Toussant by thousands of kilometers and ended up in Ard Skellige only to then have to go back east to Toussant lol - That is unless they actually went east from the eastern end of the continent, went half circle across the planet and then ended up in the west of Skellige. But that sounds like too much of a streatch.
Next thing their language, appearance and names (Dirgelech) sound absolutely nothing like Zerrikanian (Azar Javed as an example, is a Persian inspired name, his name literarily means Sacred Flame in old Iranian).
Also I read somewhere on the wiki that in the Witcher universe there are two different animals (from different places) that look like each other but in contrasted color patterns, one is a black horse-like animal with white stripes and another is a white horse-like animal wth black stripes. :)

it does not, almost every npc in cyberpunk is "randomly generated" and when you move away they just gone therfore they dont count where in witcher 3 there are probably hundreds of npcs that have routines and will stay even if we move away, and yes they could do it like in witcher 3, adding plenty of npc that live thier lives but that require time and effort and they clearly didn't had that, BUT there is one thing that cyberpunk does better than witcher 3, its randomly spawned npc (in witcher they spawn in cities) in witcher 3 they will just walk around doing nothing walking always the same path while in Cyberpunk npcs do random stuff like smoking, using phone, going to bar etc. but thats not enough cyberpunk is missing npc that actually work around city, npc's that do something, there is a chance that garbage collectors will spawn but they are just standing doing nothing
