That intro of "highway's of my life" at 17:44 is THE most beautiful intro ever created! Period!! Everytime i hear it it brings tears to my eyes instantly! Chris your amazing!!!
Jasper has never gotten his due, but is a stone cold genius. Ron gets all the credit/notoriety but it's evident that Jasper was essential to their sound thst drove that epic mid 70s-early/mid 80s run they had. He also had the ill fashion sense/swag. This video is a hidden treasure and we won't even get into how the man looks 20 years younger than he is.
He learned everything he knew from Toolshed Jones. Toolshed gave lessons to Jerry Lee Lewis, Aretha Franklin, Liberace, Geddy Lee, and Ester Rolle. He died in 2013
Very informative. I must say I am ashamed that I used to think you were just the pretty face in the group until I learned you were the sound behind the Isley Brothers many hits. It takes a strong person to withstand the music industry. Keep on keeping on Mr. Jasper!
Sensuality is the essence of The Isley Brother's swag courtesy of Mr Jasper. Im still trying to emulate the Moog lines to this day....Im only 43 this music raised me...
I haven't finished watching this whole video (and I'm not taking ANYTHING from the Isley Brothers) but Chris is definitely A Positive Motivating Force within that group.
chris jasper, PLEASE consider a publishing song book with your songs and isley songs. .. Please. .. And I enjoyed the video.. It gave a broader perspective of the band's back ground.. Thank you!
Chris Jasper (Isley Brothers), Larry Dunn (E , W, & F), Bernie Worrell (P-Funk), Billy Beck (Ohio Players), Donny Hathaway & Stevie Wonder were / are my MT. RUSHMORE of keyboard players. The pioneering & innovation that they brought to American music via Black Music are immeasurable.
Oh my God. This is absolutely amazing and heart stirring. What an extraordinary composer and lyricist Mr. Jasper is, and it is so touching to see him play these gorgeous melodies to songs that have been forever burned into my memory growing up. Words truly can not do justice to the feelings music can invoke. This is a perfect example. Thank you for sharing such a wondrous gift with us, Chris. Your musical presence in the Isley Brothers and IJI has TRULY laid the blueprint of that sound we love and instantly recognize. SO MANY CLASSICS! I don't think I could have been in this session without dropping some tears. Just wow. Continued blessing to you.
I Love This !!! And the interviewer asks about the RIGHT songs, too !!! He clearly knows Jasper's legacy and style which makes the conversation so much better. Isley-era Chris Jasper is probably my favorite and greatest influence when it comes to chordal voicings and composition. His chords are like a balm for the soul. Like a fresh breeze in the hot summertime and a warm wolly blanket in the cold winter. Did I mention I LOVE THIS !!! :- )
Thank you, Chris for sharing your musical life ,experiences as well as your compositions with us. The music you and the Isley Brothers produced inspired a whole generation and got us through some tough times. I especially enjoy your "open", airy chord voicings. Full of emotion.
Afternoon with Chris Jasper, my favorite piano chords & melody to " Let me down easy " just capture my soul, even way back in the 70's when the song was released it was one of my favorite ballads from the ' Harvest For The World ' album was out. This song just grab my soul.
His Caravan of Love music video is a message that needs to be repeated today in this time of racial turmoil. This was a well deserved honor. Larry Stockett, Director, Las Vegas Drone Film Festival
Mr Jasper, you're truly an exquisitely skilled and talented keyboardist possibly the most exquisite I've ever known. I don't ever or at least in the near future see you being surpassed or matched.
The Isley Brothers sound then compared to later days and now definitely were missing an ingredient, And that’s you!! Thank you for all your contributions to the group, So blessed and very talented you are!! My wish would be a Ron/Jasper/Ernie collaboration one day❤️
Chris...You were the backbone of the Isley Brothers. One of the good looking brothers, you stood out to put the most badass groups on the face of the earth blessings to you guys " The Isley Brothers🙏💯
I had such a "crush" on Chris Jasper in the 60s (and beyond) I loved his music (with and without the Isleys) Caravan of Love is one of my favorites, but he is magical on a piano. I remember just staring at him on the different album covers for long periods of time. The man was FINE back in the day. He has aged nicely.
I'm so happy I found this. I am blown away. I grew up on The Isley Brothers from my parents(especially my mom. she had bunch of you guy's albums still around. That's what she listened to growing up.) The one song I always listen to a lot and love beside the ones always played on the radio is Sensuality. I always get deep into that piano, moog, and those chords and the music during the chorus gives me chills. Kinda hypnotic and there's so much going on. Hearing you play it here was amazing! Thank you sir for all that beautiful music.
Now< You Have GREAT Taste In Isley.....At the Very Beginning Of Sensuality With Mr. Jasper On The Keyboard Gracing Those Notes Like Steveland Morris. The Notes He Plays, Takes Me To Higher Places( Whew!!)
Chris why did it take you so long to just come out like this you are a living legend God bless you man you are my musical Idol and I'm a 52 year old keyboard player
Living legendary composer, producer, arranger, song writer & singer Whom I had the pleasure of following all of my life... formerly of The Isle Brothers/ Isley Jasper Isley group the one & only Chris Jasper
It was a tremendous pleasure watching this interview. I was a Huge fan of the Isley ballads and always knew the writing talents of Chris. I loved Ronald’s voice and Chris on the Moog but this interview allowed me to better understand the depth of the creation. Being a fellow piano/keyboard player made this interview particularly special. I know no one actually reads these comments so late after their posting but I HAD to write this because one of my all time favorite songs he wrote. And music has been everything to me! Bless you Mr. Jasper JD. Thanks, Dr. CA
You need to know Chris that your music has meant so much to us, I just shared this with my wife because I really wanted her to know about the sound, that I would spend hours listening to growing up, and that's a part of my life. I also want to say thanks for allowing us to listen to My favorite Track Showdown the rehearsal at Bearsville Studios..That's my favorite Album as well .... Love the ending..........Showdown.........Thanks
I stumbled on this while cooling out to "for the love of you"......Never knew how prolific you are- Wow!! Thank you for the sound track to my life- PEACE!!
Thank you Mr Jasper!! Your skill partnered with Mr Earnie Isley’s guitar is the best combo I’ve heard. Throw in the voice of Mr Ron Isley and you can’t miss. Masterful!!
I can now understand how your life experience with the Isley brothers brought you to where you are today! being smart with contracts, going back to law school, understanding harmony, admiration for funk. always admired your work and many contributions to music.
I, like many others from my era, feel truly blessed to have grown up listening and being inspired by the music of legends like Chris Jasper. At the time of the Isley Brothers heyday, in the beginning, everyone thought of Chris as just the new keyboard player. Little did we know, he was the main architect behind the modern Isley Brothers sound. Anyone who ever attended an Isley Brothers concert in the 70's knew they sounded exactly the same as they did on record. No shortcuts, no auto-tune, and no machine made help. Truly a blessing to have grown up in that time.
Never new you were the engine that produced so many classic songs, your keyboard arrangement and producing are the sound track of my youth. I tip my hat off to you my brother.
I been a big fan of the Isley Brothers for years since I was a kid growing up i got every album they ever made in the 70s and 80s and also the 90s i been to all their concerts even when I was a kid me my siblings and friends use to go see them that's why I love the Isleys
I'm a keyboardist & I recognize superbad when i hear it & that's Chris Jasper some of the most deepest feeling & richest chord progressions that I've ever heard his productions with the Isley's elevated them as he created music that pierced the soul I'm 54 so When i first heard Hello... by Todd R. I didn't know it was the original I said "who made this ridiculous remake" Chris Jasper really made it his own
Mr. C Jasper, I came up the same way. M&D noticed me picking various things, tv themes, all styles at age 7. They sent me to Classical school at 9 & encouraged me greatly of course.
Thank you for this interview. I had no idea that you were the mastermind behind alot of Isley's beautiful chords. Sensuality's instrumental alone is classic.
Today is Chris Jasper birthday 12/30/20.. what a coincidence I just learned he wrote all of these songs for the ISLEY BROTHERS!!! ALL these years I just learned this on his birthday...
Wow. I just came back to this video because it was calling to me, i left a bunch of time stamps of all the songs he plays on here 5 months ago but to randomly come back today then find out its his birthday is wild 😱
Thank you for your contribution to music. You came with the most beautiful arrangements. Legend. My crush is still in tact because I love a true artist. Peace.
Thanks Charlotte, .I have continued the sound in my 14 solo albums, you can check the music out on my website...www.ChrisJasper.com Peace & Blessings, Chris
Hello Chris, I have truly enjoyed listening to your interviews as well as your music you are very inspirational to all as well as new upcoming artist. I know you probably don't remember meeting me because it was many years ago in New York back stage at Madison Square Garden for the Showdown concert. My uncle O'Kelly at the time introduced me to my father (Ronald) for the first time. I was so excited that when I met him and he said to me "hello sweetheart " I fainted in his arms for a few seconds I was 16yrs old at the time and presently I am 63 yrs old. Presently I attend Full Sail University working on my Bachelor's in Music production due to graduate in August 2023. I admire your music tenacity and all your words of encouragement to all. I just wanted to say hello and wish you much love and light in your musical journey and thank you for the inspiration. Always with love Arvilla.
what a genius! in the 70's I was in Mama Joe's studio with Joe Sample on an Ambrosia date. Joe could play funk on a broken toy piano if he felt like it! He had the most incredible rhythm chops of any musician I've ever heard. RIP.
I didn't know Chris Jasper was such a BEAST musically speaking. He could B a music professor. He explains songs so easy, and patient. Now I gotta get ALL his recordings, and get my music theory together.
These interviews are priceless. Now I understand why the music is so beautiful and timeless. A lot of visionary talent was involved in the creation of these musical masterpieces. Wow! His talent is just as sharp and magnificent as ever. Fascinating. I now can hear and appreciate the classical sound embedded in my Isley tunes.
Thank you Chris! I've been a fan essentially since birth. I'm 53. More than anything I enjoy seeing and hearing about how these classic jams were created. All of your compositions have stood the test of time and are permanent fixtures on my playlists. Where can a fan such as myself who also is a keyboard player get a hold of sheet music for your compositions? I'm sure you know there are only about five Isley songs that have sheet music for sale. I love to play and more than that love to play good music! Thanks again.
wow i really didn't know he played a major role in the much success with the isley brother wow much props what a amazing group wow this music is for the soul and everlasting ....

I couldn't have said it better
Chris Jasper was the heart and soul of the Isley brothers.....he is very talented.... keep doing your thang my brother.
What a lovely humble man is behind my absolute favorite song - The Highways of my Life.
Very informative. I must say I am ashamed that I used to think you were just the pretty face in the group until I learned you were the sound behind the Isley Brothers many hits. It takes a strong person to withstand the music industry. Keep on keeping on Mr. Jasper!
Man I could listen to Chris Jasper play the piano all day. One of the all time greats
I always loved when Chris finally got recognition in the billing with Isley Jasper Isley.
Sensuality is the essence of The Isley Brother's swag courtesy of Mr Jasper. Im still trying to emulate the Moog lines to this day....Im only 43 this music raised me...
Chris your creativity is second to none, not to mention your musicianship on the piano. Big Fan!

Yep
Very underrated brother/legend!!! It’s a shame they don’t get more props or recognition!!!!! Loved them when I was a kid in the 70s
Wow, he plays so beautifully, if he did an album of just him playing piano of these R&B songs, I would definitely buy the album! 👍
If Chris Jasper ever start a music school I'd be right there. Amazing Musicianship.
Emanuel Angarica I’m right behind you also !!!

Lets not undermine ernie tho he wrote footsteps in the dark lyrics, guitar, and played the drums on that track
How come there aren't any 70's concert footage from The Isleys?
Kelly thought being on TV would keep people from paying to see them "LIVE"
this is a treasure trove... Thank You.. all of you
This is the most valuable piece of music history I've found to date on youtube.
