Anyone younger than 60 or 70 probably won't get this, but "old fashioned " ... he was mimicking the old megaphone sound from the 20s and 30s ... done by AL Jolson and Rudy Valley.... not animal noises. BTW, I'm 82.
Danny was such a ham on stage I grew up loving this band so much. You need to do Eli’s Coming from this same concert to really hear how great each singer’s voice was.
Three lead singers. Thats what made them so special. Cory Wells sings "Try A Little Tenderness " which is better than anybody. Your laughing helps you get it about the best venue!
From 1969 through 1974 no band sold more albums or concert tickets than Three Dog Night. There concerts were outstanding because they sounded like what you heard on the radio and you could tell they enjoyed preforming for their audience. They were amazing!
I saw these guys back in 1968 and they totally blew me away. Such spot-on perfect harmonies and great performers. They had tons and tons of hits should be in the R&R Hall of Fame.
"An Old Fashioned Love Song" was written by Paul Williams, who also wrote "Rainy Days and Mondays" and "We've Only Just Begun" for the Carpenters. Generally, Three Dog Night is a fun, entertaining kind of band. Not "serious" like Pink Floyd. Another fun hit from them, if you haven't done it yet, is their cover of Randy Newman's "Mama Told Me Not To Come." Another kind of fun, somewhat psychedelic one is "Joy to the World," written by Hoyt Axton.
Lmao with you, Ace. No that's just them live, and not a particularly great recording at that. But this was a band essentially with three lead singers and they appealed to everybody at the time. And I found so much humor in it like you. I mean I've heard it a billion times and I'm pretty sure I've seen this clip before, but I've played in bands live much of my life, and that kind of thing just rings true when you're really having fun as a band. I personally just love it. But a lot of those mannerisms especially later in the song refer back to music some 30 to 40 years prior to that, which would be like today if somebody from 2024 had a hit where they were referencing music from the '80s or '90s. A lot of people would have gotten it.
I am a big fan of Three Dog Night, so many good songs! Have you checked out the group called “Ace” and their big hit “How Long”? I promise you will love it!!
Three Dog Night 3 great vocalists. The studio recording would probably satisfy you a bit as far as music. They were mimicking a style from the 30 s in that last chorus. Al Jolson ish
They weren't just great musicians, they were fantastic entertainers. I grew up listening to their music (my sister was 8 years older than me and this was her young adult music) and my appreciation has never faded (61 years old now).
Three Dog Night have many different but all great songs! You know it’s going to be a great song and show if it’s Three Dog Night, they were always entertaining and talented!❤
3DN’s Live versions were always better than the studio version IMO. They usually extended the song and you could tell this was how the song was really meant to be done. I don’t care what others may think but Cory Wells live version of “Try a Little Tenderness” cannot be beat by anyone! And that includes Otis Redding
Great band Bro. I grew up listening to them being born in 1960. Great job! Great reaction! Would you please consider doing "Out in the Country" also by Three Dog Night? Thanks for your consideration.
Okay I just sent you a link to a studio version you might want to do a studio version because it's like totally different dim the live version but it's up to you❤❤❤❤

Im a bit younger than 60, but I caught the old vaudeville references....Even a bit of the Charleston dance moves..😄
YES! Absolutely that was Al Jolson without a doubt. Down on his knees and arms outstretched. Love it.
Yes to all of the above!
Important to know that this was Written by Paul Williams who also forwarded songs to The Carpenters. ❤❤

You need to react to their song Eli's Comin' from this same live concert....it's fire 🔥

I think Williams also wrote Evergreen for a star is born
This came out in the 70's, so to them, the Old Fashioned Love song was an homage to the music that was old to them... probably the 1930's etc...
Three lead singers! That’s… the 3 part harmony.
Chuck Negron had a beautiful voice
Great group and great song. They had fun on stage that night. Please react to
Black And White.

The one who you said you liked (lowered the mic), Danny Hutton is the only original member left . Saw the group about a year ago.

About time I heard someone reference Al Jolsen
