- Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot, surrounded by water and gardens, was constructed near Amsterdam over 700 years ago. It is one of the oldest and best preserved castles in the Netherlands. The castle arose in 1285 and there are many stories to tell about its long and turbulent history. These days, the castle is a vibrant place enjoyed by many.

Thank you Selmar, this is one of our best castle we have in our country, did visit it long ago, a couple of times, the only thing that changed on the outside is the entry, love the tour, especial above, in those days we only saw some of the rooms inside, but that is also changed…very interested then when I did visit it, lovely to see it again, did enjoy your tour, thank you.

An other place to visit in the Netherlands if I ever get there. My great great great grandfather was from there. Loved the castle tour. Great to hear your mother is doing a little better.

Goeie more Selmar, die kasteel is te pragtig. 'n Ware pragstuk van eeue gelede!! Die skilderye, muur matter is baie mooi. Die versameling van die metaal oorlongs drag is fantasties. Die bewaring van hierdie geskiedenis is iets om werklik te waardeer. Die hout kiste is wonderlik asook die goedere in die kombuis, ketels en vuurherd. Hulle het 'n goeie aptyd gehad, dit was nie 'n maklike tydperk vir oorleweing nie, jy moet sterk en gesond wees. Die musiek is baie paslik en het hierdie video baie geniet. Jy het goeie smaak om hierdie besonderse kastele op te spoor en hul geskiedenis met on te deel. Ek se maar net, mense van vandag kan net nie sonder hul sel fone asemhaal nie. Wat 'n kontras van die 16de eeu en die moderne 2022!!! Daar is 'n tyd en plek vir alles in on lewens. Die tuine is ook pragtig en prakties. Ja, die Kok moes sy storie ken, hy het seker geweet watter kruie om te groei om saam met die wilde voels te bedien. Wat 'n jammerte dat Cornelius sy vrou en kinders moes afstaan vir die dood, medisyne en kennis van siektes was maar beroerd, eers baie later kon diagnosis gemaak word. Dit was 'n wonderlike tydperk vir Holland. Dankie Selmar, soos altyd ons word wegevoer in the verlede, 'n era wat maar net 'n herinnering is en wat nageslaan kan word in boeke. Mooi loop, groete vir Tatyana, tot volgende keer.
I love it when you do these tours. I need joint replacements so can’t visit places like this any more so I love seeing these places! Are you back in England?

A very interesting tour of an amazing Medieval Castle Selma, thanks so much. Your videos are such good quality and I loved the view of the garden from high up In the tower. The steps you walked up within the tower (09:32) showed the hundreds of years of people climbing those steps before, looking at the shiny hollowed out stone on some steps. 🏰🥰

I have a question for Selmar. This castle is in Holland right (my mistake earlier). Is it odd to see and imagine that your ancestors were part of castles and armor and horses, now that you live in modern times? Living in the US, of course, we had no such history here- so those times seem remote, like fairy tales. But this is part of your history. Can you imagine yourself in those times like I do here when I visit forts and places like Mount Vernon?

This is the link. It is part of my history, but I have only found this out before my uncle passed away. He said that out great grandparents use to own the castle, but we never got to chatting more about this, so I do not know much about it. Bodenstein Castle was built in 1333/34. This I found on the link above. If ever you might go there it would be great.

Lovely narration. Love the cello song.
