  • This video talks about 12 lesser things that were invented or developed in ancient Egypt. These were developments, many of which became part of our intellectual and cultural tradition, that are not all that glamorous or even noble.
    We are leading an Egypt and the Bible tour on March 2025. If you want to participate in the tour or would like more information, the link is www.jcbs.org/tours/jx25031025... . The link to register is in the "Departure Dates" box.

    We are raising funds for a new book project on the “Ten Plagues of Egypt.” In this book, we plan to delve into the Egyptian culture context of the plagues of the Exodus so as to discover what those plaques would have meant to the Egyptians.

    Hydrolics and Land Reclamation are underrated technologies. Also of course they mummified and salted beef LOL

    I did learn about the contraceptives, but the rest is new to me. Though the Hydrology makes sense given how they seemed to be the masters of irragation.

    Great stuff! 👍👍👍
    But what about all those things that did not change over the course of 3000 years. I think that is just as fascinating! Maybe aspects of practice of law, rule and religion etc. Things that could have changed but did not. I would not know what, but I know that I would enjoy such a video.

    As for inflation, when I read that Solomon made silver as common as rocks (1 Kgs 10:27), it sounds like the writer thinks that's a sign of prosperity, but I can't help but to see it as sign of rampant inflation. Am I thinking right about that? How would the poor have managed?

    I expect that their large supplies of salt were gained by evaporation of seawater, not mining.

    • @ancientegyptandthebible
      @ancientegyptandthebible  3 місяці тому +1

      The supplies were recovered from large surface deposits of natron found in the desert, not seawater evaporation.

      Thanks. Do you think it was from an ancient flood or changing sea levels? I'm being lazy by asking, instead of reading more.

      @@sharonsmith1783 Not specifically. Natron is not sea-salt. It's a mineral deposit of Na2CO3. It probably was the result of carbonate-rich lakes that dried out.

    Hey, their solution to inflation at least tackled it. Our method is to change the metrics and always confuse rate of change of inflation with inflation rates and never talk about cumulative inflation. And we export it globally since most of the world trades in US dollars.

    I thought using the Faiyum as a reservoir for storing water in case of a drought was a brainstorm of Joseph. If it was wild swamp land it would be one thing. If it was using good farmland then that would be contributing to the famine.

    • @ancientegyptandthebible
      @ancientegyptandthebible  3 місяці тому

      Joseph had nothing to do with the land reclamation of the Faiyum. This is a myth perpetuate by the likes of David Downs.
