  • “I’ll say it again-it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”
Why is it so difficult for someone who is wealthy to come into a deep relationship with God? Because that person must have their life prioritized properly to be able to move in God’s Will.

There are several other parables and events that seem to paint a very different picture. Two that come to mind are in Luke 12: 15-21 and Mathew 19: 16-24.
What are your thoughts on these parts?

Thank you for the great question!
In the Luke parable, there is a key word that anchors the entire parable: (NKJV and CSB) covetousness or (NLT, ESV, NASB) greed
The man in this parable has placed his possessions as his top priority in his life and was not content with having a lot, he wanted more and more.
The Matthew example is actually one I almost used for this video but it is well known and wanted to go to one not as known. Notice what Jesus says to the rich young ruler "sell everything then come follow me"(that is a Patrick paraphrase lol)... Jesus knew this man's possessions outweighed his desire to follow Jesus.
If you are wealthy (and trust me I am not LOL) the Matthew parable is the ultimate one to see where your heart is. If you got a calling from God to sell everything, walk away from it all and go do missionary work in the depths of the Amazon, would you be able to do it? This question is the key question for all of us. What would be the line for us that would make us walk away sad. like the rich young ruler did?
The answer should be there is no line, and if our hearts are truly aligned with God's will, we truly know there is no such line, but in practical application, it is much more difficult to live out.

Maybe so, though the 24 verse is pretty unequivocal.

Still it should give us pause. Who is to say how much is too much to keep for ourselves when there is so many people who have nothing? What do you think of Mathew 6: 19-24 and Acts 4: 32-35?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject. It's hard to reconcile the self sacrifice of the early disciples of Jesus with the consumerism of the modern world.

@@dramlamb5196 I think it is so up to each individual because each one of us will know when it is too much because we know how the possessions we have can pull us from God. I just finished a great book dealing with this by Kyle Idleman titled "Gods At War: Defeating The Idols That Battle For Your Heart"... you might really enjoy the read
