Today we're doing things a little bit differently and focusing our attention to Turtle Island to learn more on the Indigenous Rock scene. After some deep digging, we managed to find the amazing songwriting and raw emotion from Veronica Blackhawk of Tinge!
Artist Bio:
Veronica Blackhawk is a 2-spirit Anishinaabe & Cree multi hyphenate from Northwest Angle #33, Ontario (with ties to the Opaskwaykak Cree Nation in the Pas, Manitoba). They are the leader and principal songwriter of the band Tinge - an indie-rock trio based out of Winnipeg Manitoba. Releasing their first 5-song EP “Big Deep Sigh” in spring of 2023 through House of Wonders records, they have quickly grown to be a local favourite.
Recent achievements include receiving the Inaugural Vince Fontaine Legacy award & performances at several major festivals and community events. Within their personal career, Veronica aims to provide support and guidance for other upcoming artists with a focus on sharing space and resources for the 2SGBTQS + BIPOC community with goals to create more space for diversity within the local arts community.
