    Great video. Scaletrains did a really great job with these locomotives down to the AC motor sound

    A lot of the old up ac44 is either sp ones or ex cnw ones that’s why some have cab windows on the front or the number board on the nose front flashing ditch-lights and the lower ditch-lights versus the high ditch lights version

    I have a couple of Cp es44ac and a ac44cw and I am very happy with them run really long trains 60-70 cars long and they run perfectly sometimes I get fooled by the train because of scaletrains getting the traction moter sound

      Both are excellent. AC4400 have cooler sounding prime Movers.

    On the older locomotives with original faded paint, you’ll see the yellow reflective tape has or is starting to peel away revealing the original red reflective tape. So on heavily weathered units keep this in mind.

    I really enjoy your videos Daryl. I have three UP AC4400's to modernize. Now that you are finished, did you know that Microscale makes a full sheet of 6 and 4 inch yellow stripes for those converting red to y

    Thank you for posting this detailing video. One detail you may have missed, all of U.P. AC4400s have AC44CCTE on the bottom right of the cabside just below the last digit of the loco number. Yours have AC44C.
    As for the sound, do your AC44s have the characteristic traction motor whine of the prototype when in motion? It is a very distictive one.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  11 місяців тому

      Actually, they had AC44C before repainting around 2017.

    I was wincing some when you was chiseling the antenna off smoothing the roof and you was slipping with the chisel some toward your left fingers,cause I slipped with mine before an 4 stitches later was a painful lesson learned.

    Daryl, they really look great!
    When did UP or why did they stop using the flags? I personally always thought they looked great.

      @EvanstonSub  11 місяців тому

      These units actually got the flags back around 2017-18. My era is 2014-2018, so I think I'm good. They went away from them a bit because of the need to keep them clean all the time when they had the flag.

    Hi Darryl,
    Nerve wracking watching you chiselling 😲 I have heard that some folk put a little masking tape down at the edges to stop the chisel slipping into areas that you don't want it to go - any use ?

    I have some 3M 2mm (0.08") wide yellow vinyl tape. It is a bit too wide but if it looks ok, I haven't used it yet, will be a lot cheaper as 33 metres of it was £3.25 ($4?). I like Smoke Box Graphics and use them on cars plus a few locos but the postage to the UK makes them expensive.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  11 місяців тому

      The tape is a little too thick for HO. The decals are quite thin. I need to give the smokebox graphics a try.

    • @mikerubynfs
      @mikerubynfs 11 місяців тому

      @@EvanstonSub The tape is thicker than decals about the same as Smokebox Graphics, but the thickness is not noticeable unless you look really close. I have about 50 cars with their stripes, just don't press too hard when applying them or they may distort. I would say they are easier to apply on cars than decals where you have to fit between ribs, grab irons etc. but I find harder on locos to keep the long lengths straight. I must get around to trying the tape on a loco.

    • @FlashJonesTrains
      @FlashJonesTrains 10 місяців тому

      @EvanstonSub I have. I've watched it at least 10 times or so, I can't seem to get my ST engines matched. Did you do anything specific with the bemf, trims, or accel/decel ? I remember you saying something about what if these engines are pulling a train up hill, you had said these decoders will run the same speed. Do you do anything outside CVs 2,5,6?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  10 місяців тому

      After each run I adjust the mid voltage setting up or down so that the speed % on the throttle matches the scale MPH.

    • @FlashJonesTrains
      @FlashJonesTrains 10 місяців тому

      @EvanstonSub okay gotcha. The only thing you adjust is cv6 which is the mid voltage. Thanks.

    I still don’t understand why we haven’t graduated to wire formed handrails at this point. They’re the most durable, very realistic looking, and can be easily manipulated into shape in areas of discrepancy. Premium models from high end manufacturers going cheap on critical parts.
