I'm a Svaroopa yoga instructor,(a fully propped hatha style) and your explanation of muscle groups and specific mechanics for the movement of muscles is amazing. Alignment is spot on, plus you show what hyperextension is in the angles. Kudos to yu Sir‼️
cheers man, thanks for the comment, and you're welcome. trust me, I spend a LOT of time on a computer nowadays, so I'm literally working on the same stuff. gotta keep up with the positive inputs to the body to counteract the negative inputs, and stay mobile.
Had no idea how tight I was had knee pain for ages and just discovered my hips are insanely tight thank you so much really excited to see my progress once I start these stretches
As a late 30's desk jockey just getting into the sport, I've found your channel and videos absolutely superb. I'm now consistently popping up on the board thanks to your pop-up strength related videos and I can now begin to focus on my form on the board and this video is just what I needed
Tight hips, always had, I remember my taekwondo trainer getting depressed about those 15y ago (and I'm, 28.....), and today they are preventing me from getting this nice surfing/pumping position, I CANNOT pump down in this position and keep my back foot on the floor, I have to lift it on the toes and rotate it toward the front to not break my knee... Looking forward to see if those exercice can give me some progress on this, thanks for that
I learned the 90 90 stretch from this channel a couple of years ago and it has been so helpful for me and my clients. This video offered more details. I really like the part when you explain how this pose progresses into the pigeon pose. Thank you for sharing!
Just came across this video and your channel. Im in my early 50s and have struggled with getting to my feet for as long as i can remember. (I'm a longboarder btw) I'm not a daily surfer and like many, a desk jockey most of my time. Of course after watching this vid, I got down on the floor to see how close I could get to the 9090....... not even close. I didnt realise how inflexible I was.. Question -how often should you do these stretches, how long to hold them and how long before we start to see some improvements? Great channel btw 👌
thanks for your interest in my work mick. I need you to understand that I know nothing about you nor have ever assessed you, so I can't answer your questions. If you want to improve "mobility" you need to work on it more than you currently are. to be completely honest, your best bet is to grab my stretches for surfers 2.0 program and start using those routines where all specific direction and parameters are laid out. that program is specific to stretching and then strengthening and loading tissue in the new range of motion. that is the KEY to longlasting change. for example, if you held this stretch in the video for 60seconds, it may lengthen tissue from a neurological perspective, but then you need to load it and train it so the tissue adapts!!! if you don't want to do that, perhaps find some yoga routines on youtube and start doing them consistently. you need to give your body INPUT to adapt. once / week for 30seconds isn't going to do a damn thing to change structure of the body. think of this as a 1 month, 2 month, 4 month, 12 month process where you are invested in your body and have an eye on longevity!
1st stretching routine which actually helped my superstiff hip to prepare myself for surfing. Great content, sir! I bought a Surfskate as well and I'm pretty sure that skating on a regular basis will improve the flexibility as well.
Wow, yeah looking forward to a good run of surf to test this. I usually blow my hip flexors if I haven't been surfing. I am mastering this pose. Shoots
Surf Strength Coach ok that’s good to hear I plan on enrolling in his exercise coach program which is what sounds like what you went through. I assume you gained a lot of practical information
Hi i wanted to ask you a question, I surf for like 10 months and my hip started hurt me like 4 months ago when I move the leg, I did CT it was clear and now am waiting for MRI Thought meybe you can give me something to do (sorry for the english tho)
I wouldn't say it's common, but it does happen. the tissue from the rectus femoris is likely placing stress into the patellar tendon. try some tennis ball release work to the quad tissue prior to stretching and see if this creates any change.
it likely means you don't actually have external rotation of the hip joint, and since you're lacking that you have to tilt everything off to the side to accommodate the lack of ER at the hip joint.
After watching loads of vids this is the best!

As a 30 something weekend warrior driving a desk all week, you’re a life saver. Thank you for all your work Cris!

Glad to hear you got some benefit from the routine. Now just stick with it for some time to reinforce tissue change / adaptation

This (both in terms of content and presentation), like all your content i've looked at thus far, is fantastic. Thank you!
Thanks ben, I appreciate that.
Great content, you're on target with 90/90
best stretch EVER. hah!
Thanks a lot
Awesome stuff. Did you complete Paul cheks exercise coach program?
I've done the majority of the courses for the "practitioner" route of training through the chek institute and some of the HLC courses

Bloody brilliant this
Thanks Cris, excellent!

get your hip checking out by a professional buddy. that's the best advice I can give you.
Question!? When I am in the 90 90. I am forced over to one side. Meaning my upper body leans away from my legs. Now what? Thank you
Go watch the newest uploaded Perfect Hip Stretch for Surfers video. I get into those details.
Is it common/ok that the hip flexor stretch pulls on my knee quite uncomfortably yet not necessarily painful?
I wouldn't say it's common, but it does happen. the tissue from the rectus femoris is likely placing stress into the patellar tendon. try some tennis ball release work to the quad tissue prior to stretching and see if this creates any change.
How long should you hold the 90/90 stretch?
my back is straight.. but I fall to the side in 90 90 pose, what does this mean? tight adductors?
it likely means you don't actually have external rotation of the hip joint, and since you're lacking that you have to tilt everything off to the side to accommodate the lack of ER at the hip joint.
excelente !! Obrigado !1
I always thought my hips were super loose. Nope. I was doing it wrong. Thanks for that. ;)
lol....i can relate.
Thanks 🤙🏼
One way boss
