      Glad to hear you've had a good experience with the USCO! Copyright registration can be overwhelming and confusing for many. Cosynd makes the experience user-friendly and error-proofs all applications so you creators can avoid making expensive mistakes (The U.S. Copyright Office does not offer refunds on misfiled applications and charges an additional $100 to correct errors on existing registrations).

      I, too, register all my creative works by preparing and filing my own copyright registration applications. I do NOT trust another third-party to prepare my registrations. I’ve been registering for 15+ years.

      @@JulianFulcoPerron *US Copyright Office (LOC) registration fees.* The filing fee to register creative works, including music compositions & sound-recordings vary: $45, $65, or $85.
      Use the “*Single Application”* ($45) to register ONE un-/published work (like one song and/or one recording) with ONE author who’s the SAME copyright claimant, that’s NOT a-work-for-hire project, and that does NOT include any third-party music media - the songwriter/musician MUST have created the ENTIRE work him/herself! Great to have you with us! Registration with the U.S. Copyright Office formally establishes your ownership over your work and is now one of the most critical forms of legal protection against infringement and misuse of your work. Both US and International works must be registered with the US in order to file a lawsuit and receive statutory damages of $150,000 per willful infringement + attorney’s fees.
      Once the U.S. Copyright Office approves your registration, you will be sent an official certificate of registration to the mailing address you provide.

    You kind of glossed over what it costs. What if there is no recording. like it's a PDF leadsheet. Also what if your album is mixed, some tracks are covers, co-writes, or PD, Does this link in ANY WAY to the works registered in PRO's? Can you glom several singles together for the purposes of copyright registration in order to save money? Thank you.

      Lots of great questions! The cost of an application varies by type and can range from $65 - $85. Cosynd offers CD Baby clients a discounted registration service of $25 per application in addition to the federal filing fees, which includes the preparation, review, e-filing, and handling of correspondence with the U.S. Copyright Office (USCO) until you receive your certificates of registration. That's 80% less expensive than similar services!
      Leadsheets can be uploaded and attached to applications for musical compositions.
      Cover songs can be registered on a sound recording application.
      PRO registrations are entirely different and do not provide you with any legal protection when it comes to misuse or infringements on your work.
      Registrations can be for single works or a group of works. Depending on the filing criteria, the Copyright Office may require you to file multiple applications to protect your body of work. You can use Cosynd’s easy application calculator can help you determine exactly how many applications you'll need when filing with Cosynd: cosynd.com/calculator

    Can Music producer copyright Music behind the Lyrics if they single handedly composed the Music to the Lyrics?
    I am not sure how this really works, any help please?

    • @cdbabyvideo
      @cdbabyvideo  Рік тому

      So, without hearing the song, I'd say the general answer to this question is yes; if someone else wrote the lyrics and you wrote the music, you can be credited as. songwriter. The tricky thing might be if you didn't write the melody (which for copyright is basically synonymous with "music"). But in modern music production, the producers are generally credited as writers too if they composed important elements of the recording/hooks/etc.

      Yes. The day the US Copyright Office *RECEIVES(!)* your completed copyright registration application, your deposit (musical works you’re registering), and filing fee, and assuming there are no issues/errors with your application or deposit, that’s when your work has been *officially registered,” even though it may take a few weeks to a couple of month or longer to receive your Certificate in the mail (the USCO will back-date your filing/registration date to when it was received).
