Keep yourself healthy. I retired two years early for that reason, ( not to mention very bad boss), and never looked back. Im reasonablely sane, and it's been 23 yrs. . Ups and downs with my layout, but still going. Fact is it might have saved me once or twice. You do what you want and we'll make it work for us. Thanks for the years of dedication. Good luck .

Jenny, can well understand your reasons for change. I find your technical programmes extremely useful, i.e. chipping a specfic loco, DCC control of track and signals etc. Loco reviews too, I use yourself as the main leader and several sources before making a decision. Your Monday club I view on a Tuesday, missing the repetitive 'Beano' bits therefore compressing the time. Best wishes to Zoe and Yourself for a quieter future.

Hi Jenny and Zoe, just want to say thank you for all the videos that you and Zoe have put out over the years, you are an inspiration for many people, unfortunately, I've missed a lot of the Monday Club,as I've been working night-shift for about eighteen months now, that, plus moving house twice in the space of a year has severely curtailed my modelling, but I've just started another OO scale layout,it won't be brilliant, it's not going to set the heather alight, but having fun is the name of the game, it's important to find time to relax, your health comes first, take care, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.

I do a Minecraft UA-cam channel. Nothing fancy - no editing, no dubs, no fancy thumbnails. I just record myself playing Minecraft and put it out. Even that is a bit of a chore to handle the UA-cam side of it, so I dread to imagine how much work goes into a channel like this.

I like your honesty about UA-cam.
There are so many that seem to be portraying it's a licence to print. $$$$$. I know how you feel about over doing things. I spent over 10 years of continuous nite and weekend nite work. I quit 18 months ago , I just fell apart.
On the subject of rivet counting.
When i look at the real thing at distance so it appears the same as HO or N you cant see the rivets.

Thanks Jenny for an excellent channel and glad you will still be producing content though cutting down. You are right to guard your health. Also a big thankyou for not going down the click bait route and also not making a big deal that you are a female in the hobby - sometimes people are divisive about it. You are simply a railway modeller and not making a fuss about being a female railway modeller. Well done! Our wonderful hobby is open to anyone of any age or ability and that has been your philosophy. Very inspirational.

I will keep following your channel regardless of how many videos you put out. Rest and less stress is definitely a must.
In all honesty I now follow a few smaller model railway channels now that don't load loads of videos on their channels, and they tend to be good on content. Those channels that do the two or three a week clickbate videos reviews where it becomes a rant at the manufacturer's small defects and slight running issues, I stopped watching. I am sure that the longer timescale between your videos will be well received still and you will be able to improve on the already great content.

Since coming back to the hobby a few years ago, your content has been invaluable to me, especially your loco reviews, which I will really miss.
You HAVE to look after yourself and make a living, so I wish you all the best and will continue to tune in to your videos and browse your amazing back catalogue, although my own work & family commitments make it difficult to participate in The Monday Club live.

Totally Understand your reasons for scaling back and it is hard to run a UA-cam channel. This one I'm commenting on isn't too bad as it's videos as of when. But my other channel is the one that is my main focus. Back in 2020 I did try and do two videos a week but couldn't handle it as it was difficult to try and get videos out and 90% of the time would had to go out a day later and a apologise. The only advice I can give is that you have to get ahead with the editing to make it two days a week and it's not easy. I've been following since lockdown and the Monday club stream I really do enjoy the streams and still looking forward to future content and livestreams. But do put yourself first Jenny and thanks for the livestreams and videos

Hi Jenny. I would study your camera's instructions. Some cameras will combine you clips into a single file and add titles that you can upload directly to UA-cam. The problem is the time taken to shoot the video plus the time taken to edit and upload it! I would not appear in the video, and just do it as a voice-over. It is less time-consuming to take a series of stills and add a voice over. I hope this helps! Thanks for all your efforts.

Hi Jenny ( and cupboard monkey!)
Just watched this video and was shocked that this isn't your full time career!!
The time and effort a video takes to produce and yet you're doing it 3 to 4 times a week. Phenomenal back catalogue and it's an amazing resource for us modellers.
I'm not surprised you're cutting back a little bit, after all you need a break from the hobby every now and then to recharge and recover your mojo.
One thing I've discovered on my own little channel is if you upload too often, it can choke the views and push earlier and maybe more useful content into the ether. The audience is fickle and usually only watch the latest or two videos before moving on to pastures new.
    Take care
    Steve

Hi Jenny - sounds like a very wise move. I've only recently subscribed - you have a massive content and great breadth of topics, literally something for everyone. Back in 2017, after I retired, I had ambitions of starting up a channel here in Western Australia. I made two (mediocre) videos and learnt quickly that It's a huge amount of work, and if I was to do it seriously, there was the risk that it would become the hobby, and not modelling railways. So well done on making the hard decision, and explaining it to everyone. Yes, burnout is real.
    All the best, Angus.

Yes, I am looking forward to whatever you put out in the future, but the two of you come first. Now a question if I may please..... Amidst this video you comment on the sheer number of videos you two have done - As such a number is not on UA-cam right now, how to see a Cumulative list of Absolutely All of them and selectively download please?

When something stops being fun, it’s time to stop!
Genuinely found this quite sad to watch!
I have recently had a massive cull of channels I subscribed to on UA-cam. A lot have been channels that cover topics of my interest but I culled them because I can’t help but watch and see how the very things you spoke about have taken over there life to the point they no longer have a life, like you say, they have got to the point that they can’t do the most simple of tasks without thinking is this film able and I am picking up on this trend more and more and I will be honest, I find it sad and desperate.
They had a hobby which they now sell their soul for and they have partners / families who become second place and that to me, doesn’t sit well with me.
I admire everything you and your wife Zoe have done but I admire more you have realised that when it stops being fun, stop!
You could have the best hobby in the world but when you spend every single second of you and that hobby thinking how do I film this, how do I capture that, how can I make that watchable, YOU are robbing yourself and I find that sad.
I didn’t find you until after the scamdemic content but that won’t stop me respecting you for all you did and helped.
Live to work Jen, don’t work to live!

Very true Jenny, as much as I enjoy making the odd video, there is plenty where I think, I won't film this or that, just because I want to make sure that enjoyment of the hobby doesn't become secondary secondary to making videos, and I find it much easier to make videos if I remain enthusiastic about the subject which in turns means I want to talk about it and share it which helps me enjoy making the videos more.

Totally agree with you Jenny. YT is a hard taskmaster/mistress! People think you are enjoying yourself but the effort is way too much - especially when the pay is less than minimum wage. Understand fretting over a thumbnail working or not, seeing an inferior video on the same subject get multiple times the views. Its great the support we get and make new friends but it can be a lonely job! Yes I'd like to know how to make it successful (greater payback less effort) too!

Fully understand your reasons for cutting back. Your health is the first thing that you have to be concerned with as well as the work that Zoe does in the background to keep the channel going. Glad that you are able to continue hosting the Monday club and its a privilege to be a very small part of it.

I so wanted you and Zoe to make it as full time UA-camrs. Your content is high quality and I enjoyed it. I'd imagine by now one can go to Uni. to learn how to make a successful channel. Seems to me model railways are a niche and there is a lot of competition. Alas quality does not always win out.

Personally, as an avid watcher of model railway related UA-cam content, I have developed a great admiration for the effort you guys put in on a regular basis. I wonder perhaps if live productions are the way to go just to avoid all the post production editing that accompanies non-live offerings.

Do what’s best for you Jenny (and Zoe of course). Whatever you can give us is very generous. Particularly happy you’ve kept the Monday Club although 2 hours every week is quite the commitment. ❤ from 🇨🇦

Cloud platforms like UA-cam, facebook, instagram, etc have helped the hobby in many ways, problem is that the cloud platforms demand constant content, content takes time to make, hard to quantify how much it costs monetary wise vs time wise, busting a gut to keep producing content & receiving little in remuneration off these USA owned conglomerates is fueling a burn out / questioning the time taken . So its quite right to cut back on producing content. Then theres the issue of what actually is there to talk / discuss that hasnt been discussed many time before on various other channels?

Many people don't realise what goes into making a channel successful without completely sponging off an existing project by cheekily repackaging it under Fair Use.
To make something totally original, shot on your own cameras, with your own lighting rig and microphones, having written and practiced your own dialogue comprised of your own thoughts, then editing in your own self-designed logo, can be really fulfilling. But when YT or any other platform doesn't cater to content makers basic needs and rewards more clicks to 20 seconds of Peppa Pig saying who she is a quadrillion times, it can be really draining.
And what do some people have to say in response? "If you just work harder at UA-cam, you'll find it makes more money". Spoken like any government using taxpayers money to compensate Train Operating Companies after they've pushed the trade unions hard enough to call strike action for the umpteenth time.
There's been a lot of talk this year about clickbait creeping its way amongst railway UA-camrs lately. They've found it annoying and misleading. In any other profession, it would be seen as false advertising, yet YT promotes it over stuff that costs the same or more to make.
What's more, a lot of YT'bers in general get slagged off just for existing, even though they perform a service that mainstream TV doesn't dare to do. Other than Great Model Railway Challenge and Hornby Model World, railway modelling has gotten nothing in the last six years. TV wouldn't dare go behind the scenes at Dapol to show how wagons are made, or show a step-by-step guide of how to build a 'Ladykillers' themed layout, or provide weekly updates on what's going on amongst the manufacturers. Yet people on UA-cam take those risks.
Oh yeah, and to those who say UA-camrs are 'milking money from a hobby', Bob Symes and the BBC made more money doing the same thing over 50 years ago but nobody would dare try having a pop at them for it.
You two are quite right to put your needs first and pace yourselves. Just so long as you can afford to do so.

Be good to yourself. You're trying to do too much. I love it too. But not having time to get back into it, for over 50 years, it's become almost more of a chore than a love. But I won't stop. Life can get in the way of fun. Just roll with it. Look Forword to the day you retire. I did. Remember you and your family come first, Be good to yourself.
