Maybe, it got silly and more silly as the follow up tv series went through its 19 or 20 episodes. The original 5 movies were good. But the following series was just silly. For example: Willy was a vegetarian A lizard special forces agent looking just like Terminator big Arnie A lizard priest who is a pacifist The leader comes to make peace. Martin get killed then his brother comes back looking exactly like him. Two infiltrator lizards looking exactly like Donovan and his wife Julie Such and such.
I was 11 when this came out. It was a **huge** hit among my friends at school. My parents wouldn't let me watch because it aired on school nights but my Dad taped every episode and I watched and watched and rewatched on weekends for years.
Yeah same here. My dad recorded it on a Sony Video-8 vcr at the time. It was one of Sony's ideas to minimize things back in the 80's as such as with the Mini disc that didn't go anywhere either. Still have the original recordings. With Snow on the screen when broadcasts were analog antennas on the roof. I still remember us sitting in the living-room watching V when it first aired... And that scene when Donovan is the airducts and gets found out by the visitor after he swapped his eyes?.... When Donovan pulled the facemask off and revealing that red eyed lizard face my mother was like..."Oh god lord in heaven... Kids go to bed right now!!!".... haha... That was television! Living in a remote countryside at the time, they never saw the "Alien" Chestburster so... This was something very new to a lot of ppl due to it was on Television at that time.

so cool how Martin is hinting at a larger world in the V universe, the War Machine that is the Leaders Empire, the fact the visitors have enemies that have defeated them before so they need an abundance of slave troops, that and the Water and the food shortage, its all so cool that even though this mini series and the sequel tie in shows at the time tried their best and were probably pretty ambitious for their time, they could only hint at these larger things going on! The series works fine on its own as its little morality play but what it hints at going on accross the universe sounds so Awesome to think about. Had the series gone on longer i guess they would have introduced other Alien Visitors that maybe Ally with Humanity to drive the Visitor Reptiles back into their territory? Who knows. :O I should Imagine the books which I haven't read filled in these possibilities for where it could have gone. :) Kenneth Johnston man, two of my Favorite shows of my Childhood, the Incredible Hulk 70's show, making me cry for David Banners always trying to help who he could along the way, but never being allowed to settle down anywhere, had to stay on the move :,( . The Good Thing about Donovan and Martin, despite being from different planet, Martin and Donovan proven to be the best of friends, Martin did not hestitate to tell Mike the Visitors true intentions, even in the case of Martin meant in the end to lose command and to turn on Diana.
It is possible to simply create water. And a species that can engage in interstellar travel should have been able to refine the technology to do so. That seems easier than travelling long distances throughout the universe to conquer a relatively advanced planet and then transport the water to the home planet

I loved the series. But this premise for invading Earth always just pulled me out of it. Water is the most abundant compound in the universe. Even in our own solar system, you wouldn't have to venture into the inner solar system to find it. It exists in far larger quantities elsewhere. The only resource more abundant on Earth than in any other part of the solar system is us, humans. Life. That's the side that appeals. All these alien invasion series and movies where they come fight us for our resources... Just ruins it for me.

water in space is not that usable, there is alot of water in our system it appears but without a lot of equipment to purify it if is useless for organic beings like us, it is often mixed with radiation and rock, we also have no evidence that the majority of planets in the galaxies have usable water, though H20 is common in the universe, it would be akin to salt water etc
