The chemical engineer in me gets very scared when I see a PRD/PRV being used as a control valve you should always have a separate control system. You could argue that it fails safe ( if the spring fails it will open) but regular lifting of the pressure relief valve could have unforeseen results for example wort could splash dry and accumulate on the valve or hop pieces. It is quite conceivable that failure would occur resulting in the fermenter exceeding its design pressure. They make control valves for these called spunding valves they are a simple regulator that maintains a set pressure, if that valve fails then you can rely on your PRV doing its job and preventing the system from exceeding its design pressure.
*This is not my professional opinion running a safe system is your responsibility and you should follow all manufacturers guidelines *
My thoughts exactly, there are warnings and disclaimers in the instructions that state it is safe to do but I am not taking any chances with it in future. I will be putting a secondary safety valve like a blowtie to relieve pressure that may occur as a result of excess krausen from rich brews. Thanks for the great piece of information @Ralphgtx280 this is why I do UA-cam.
@@SimpleHomeBrew sweet , big advantage of the blowtie is you can ajust the pressure to any pressure you want typically people are pressure fermenting in the 4-10 PSI range
Enjoyed video, I’m yet to try pressure ferment, others suggest best to use a bow tie pressure arrangement as the safety valve may get clogged up and cause over pressure and, worse case, blow up fermenter. Started my journey 4 years, extract with bottling now all grain with the mono Kegs. Having fun, love the mystery and the journey. Keep the videos coming.
Lol love the pop and mini bit for keg king everytime you say it. Great stuff 😂
Thanks, I reckoned it would be a good idea considering they gave me the fermenter free of charge and some very awesome items to help with this great hobby. Cheers Lyndon thank for noticing.
😁
You're welcome Pierre. Glad you're getting good use from it! Cheers!
I am, thanks again!
Hey dude . Great vid. Nice to see a brew going in the Chubby 👍 now, stop sanitising yeast packets then sniffing them ! (There's a special club for things like that 😉😂)
Thanks, will do! But I just can't help it. Please help me I'm obsessed. 😰
@@SimpleHomeBrew 😂😂😂
Great video, Pierre! Hope you're safe and didn't have to evacuate!
I hope so too. Second round of bad weather happening at the moment, half my town is out of power and I really can't go anywhere. I am jumping on my bike and going to take some video to share with you guys today.
Be safe mate. If at all you need a place to stay in Melb, lemme know.
Great job and looking forward to seeing how it turns out but after trying a lot of Czech beers I'd have to add a crap load of Saaz. Merlot aged with oak is my fav...!
I have been watching all your videos and getting some inspiration from them. The Merlot is looking real good and I am hanging to try it. It's a pity I have to wail so long. Thank you! Cheers!
iv done that a few times always a partial version and i never use coopers yeast i find it meh that kit is not bad keep up good content pierre cheers
Thank you, I will be tasting this in a couple of weeks. We will see what come like.
Nice work as usual mate, keen to get your feedback on the chubby during ferment, on the next video. Cheers 🍻🍻
Coming soon! so far so good.
The cambden tablet thing I notice a lot of change in brew a lot nicer taste can taste ya malts and hops better I tried it in last brew and wow I found a huge difference cheers 🍻 keep up the good content 👍
I am so glad you let me know, I make these videos to help other brewers. Cheers😀
Hey grats on the shwag. I’ll check out the chubby. (But not in the locker room shower)
You will be right just don't drop the soap
Great video Pierre, I hope you weren't effected by the floods .
I live in a raised area so all good, Second round of bad weather happening at the moment, half my town is out of power and I really can't go anywhere. I am jumping on my bike and going to take some video to share with you guys today. Cheers
Hi Pierre. This is one id like to try. I’m in Texas and those are big here.
Shiner Bock and Shiner Blonde are our most popular state beers.
This is the only Shiner Blonde clone I can find. www.homebrewing.org/Shiner-Blonde-Clone-All-Grain-Recipe_p_9695.html It is at the top of my list. Although it’s sort of a summer beer for us.
Interesting names for beers, did the names come from a pup brawl? I don't know if it is same with you, but in my part of the world we refer to a black eye as a shiner!!??? I am trying to access my local beers to showcase the variety of talent in my part of the world.
I like the look of it! Do you have access to the recipe? I wont be able to purchase that one and have it shipped.😀
@@SimpleHomeBrew I was actually considering shipping one of those to you. So we could try it out together.
Shiner can mean black eye here too, but it’s named after the city the brewery is in. The city is probably named after a Texas/Mexico war hero.
@@rabbi7933 Sounds like a great idea to try it as a Collab. If I could get the recipe we will be able to save some $$$ on freight. Thanks for the thought but I couldn't ask you to take the expense. I will contact them and see if I can get it shipped to my address. I will let you know.
I think the snobbery about kit yeast stems from the early days of homebrew when you were just supplied with a generic ale yeast. So it made no difference whether you bought a lager, a bitter or a pale ale you just got the same yeast with the kit. I believe things have advanced a lot since those days.
You are so right. I have had mostly good results with my brews using kit yeasts. If I need to change the profile of the beer I will throw in something that suits it.
Great job but it went down the side as you were a bit tired...as I can fully relate.
Tell me about it I filmed 4 videos that day. Three of them where tasting videos so I was a little tipsy in this one. Never again. 😉
Hi! Good and detailed brewing! Just curious, how did you build the water measure thing? Do you have some link to diy instructions?
Hi, would you be talking about the Fill-O-Metre? ua-cam.com/video/jstZvwJYoos/v-deo.html
@@SimpleHomeBrew Ah, so you had a whole video about it. Was thinking about making one myself using a water flow meter, solenoid valve and an esp8266 :)
Hi Pierre, I have just done my second round of this brew and followed all your steps but I got sidetracked and didn't boil the water for the brew enhancer but I stirred it enough for it all to dissolve. I really I hope I didn't compromise the batch.
You know what I just did a similar thing and it fermented perfectly. I think you will be good for a great brew.
@@SimpleHomeBrew thanks Pierre, hope yours goes well also.
Seems the opening of the chubby is a lot smaller than the all rounder. Did u find that limiting?
I am fermenting in it at the moment. The one thing I noticed is, I had not one leak from the get go.t The smaller opening seems to have a more solid seal.
What merlot kit are you using Pierre?
I am working on a Winexpert Chile Merlot. It's an 8 litre concentrate. There are few changes in this, been very easy going so far.
I haven't got a chubby, but after I make my first batch of home brew I think I might get a chubby;) hahaha
😆😆😆Thanks, Me Too,😃😃😅😂😂
Does adding Campden tablets kill you yeast?
Hi @mikelloyd9934, no not at all. you only add Half a tablet for around 20 litres. This will neutralize the chorine and chloramine but not harm your yeast the dose is very low.
How long does Mexican one take to ferment under pressure? Cheers
About the same as normal. About a week or so.
@@SimpleHomeBrew thanks appreciated 🙏
