That was a really bad example of her talent. Unfortunately she did lose the ability to play guitar and her vocals are pretty ravaged now but back in the day she was absolutely fire. I love her to death.
Not just Hole but why does every 90s band have so much reverb om their vocals. (Courtney's isn't even that much but they all have it) I am just learning recording. Is that normal for all vocal stems?
No, not all vocal stems with that much reverb. Listening to the full recording, it just sounds like they chose to put heavy reverb on the vocals to get the sound they wanted. And yes, bands like Nirvana also did that (and even Chorus effect), so it is maybe kind of a 90's thing. It does sound good with the full band.
Because they didn't autotune their vocals to death and could actually sing the parts. Listen to vocals from records of the 60s if you really want to hear some reverb. Reverb was used mainly to add drama and space to things. The difference is older recordings the vocals in isolation sound great whereas modern recordings many times are terrible with over production.
