  • Old World Huntington Beach is a little German village, restaurant and festival hall founded by Josef Bischof in 1978. This little German village is nestled in-between the city of Huntington Beach, made famous by championship surfing, cruising cars, skateboards, and an industrial base headed by the giant BOEING company.
Envisioned and built 40 years ago, Old World Village has become famous in Orange County, California and all over the world due to Josef Bischof's unique vision for its time. The thoughtfully planned village is the first mix-used retail and residential projects in Huntington Beach, is famous for the unique shops, community events and fundraisers, is popular for its authentic German food and beer, is known for hosting the best Oktoberfest parties with Shot Girls, Herbmeister, German Bands and more.
Watch this video to hear Josef Bischof, founder and developer of Old World Village, shares his vision and experience in building this unique German village in Orange County, California.
You’ll also hear from Cyndie Kasko (Executive Manager of Old World German Restaurant), Bernie Bischof (Managing Owner of Old World German Restaurant), Pat Rogers (Former Marketing Director Huntington Center & Bella Terra) Mike Posey (Former Mayor of Huntington Beach), John Erskine (Former Mayor of Huntington Beach) and many more share their stories and memories of Old World Village in this 40th Anniversary video…
“It’s kind of funny how north Huntington Beach went for that whole live, work, mix-use development and Old World was the first. My dad had that idea light years ahead of its time. It was pretty neat that we have that same ability here. You can live upstairs. You can rent a business downstairs. It’s so handy and so clever to have that.”
    - Cyndie Kasko
Executive Manager of Old World German Restaurant
“Shopping centers have become the modern day community center’s central park… where a lot of cultural events are held. So it was natural that our next door neighbor Old World German village, the restaurant, Oktoberfest, and all the tradition that they have, together we became such great neighbors. We were doing things like raising money for the rebuilding of the pier and have all kind of community groups coming in for fundraisers, that even include the Scottish Festival… when we became open aired [mall], it was so much fun to see the Chicken Dance being performed, authentic German Band, and Oom Pah Pah Band, and then we would have a parade that would begin at the Bella Terra Mall and then cross the street to Old World.”
    - Pat Rogers
Former Marketing Director of Huntington Center & Bella Terra
