When I went to Japan in 2015, a TV crew stopped me and asked me for an interview. I had been carrying our a coffee cup for an hour. They wanted to interview me about Japan cleanliness. So I said Tokyo was very clean but you can't find a bin ANYWHERE! I ended up on national TV.
Regarding the leaves in the van, I’m surprised you haven’t noticed the leaf-sweeping ritual. In Fukuoka they sweep the leaves into neat piles each morning, then leave them to blow away again, and the cycle continues until one day the leaves are no more. Perhaps the van is a leaf nexus.
What a delightful channel! Especially a refreshing new perspective in contrast to many other Japan channels, which always produce the same anime-toilet-sushi-content. Thanks a lot!
And as for the lack of bins, I asked my boss why there are no public bins and he said there used to be but they were used like the ones in London, where they get full to overflowing and people continue to try to put rubbish in them, and around them. So they did away with them. We put our bins out at night, and collections are made around 2-4am to beat the crows.
Makes sense, note enough bins? Get rid of them! I was pretty sure the elimination of bins was due to the sarin gas attacks, but maybe that was just a part of the anti bin conspiracy in Japan..
They actually got rid of them due to the terrorist attack by the Aum Shinrikyo cult who hid poison gas canisters in them. They’ve slowly added some back but I guess a lot of places don’t have them still
Maybe they people of Kyoto will discover trashcans and dumpsters at some point in the future. They're ugly, but anything with a lid is a lot more crow-proof than blue mesh netting.
I found this super interesting. Plus, your voice is so calming and soothing I can see myself listening to your videos while trying to sleep. Subscribed and waiting for more! ;)
Japan, the world where everything comes in single use plastic, but there isn't a garbage can anywhere. Where you have to pay to get rid of large trash like a broke appliance. Remember that got milk commercial where he has endless cookies, but not a drop of milk? That's what it reminds me of.
@@Tetrapharma I say this not to brag, but just for context, I could throw away a couch, or water heater, or flat screen TV every single garbage pickup where I live, and trash comes twice a week. Not every place has this, but our neighborhood does. It's pretty much limitless. Is that a good thing? I'm not sure.
I also live in Kyoto and see a lot of the same. I am so lucky I live in a big apartment complex with private garbage collection from boxes. Still, the bins aren't big enough and are often overflowing. Some times the crows do get to them. At least we have a management company that cleans it up.
Crows! I once got attacked by a _massive_ crow in front of a crowded Kamakura station. it just swooped down, hammered my head, and flew away. Of course, I was walking toward its young hopping around at a bus stop, but why _me?_ Was it because I am a foreigner? 何で私!

That could be solved so easily by just having a wheelie bin. Like it's not difficult and they're too heavy for a crow to open.
"The front fell off" missed opportunity there :)

That van is actually a retaining wall now
Awesome editing and humor.
I'm blushing like a schoolgirl, thank you.

took a ... hard look...
I found a vibrator in my local designated bin area, and it was there for a few months.
Hey, just so you know, Digg linked this video today, calling it “educational and hilarious”. Great stuff, I’ve just subscribed!
Thanks for the heads up and the kind words!

This video reminds me of the UA-camr by the name of Yozora Blues, I think you'd like him given your styles being so similar
all due respect what backwater are you living in?
surely there's an American that would import that old Mitsubishi van
