    MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
    Video of icebox:
    Video of Gas Refrigerator:
    Propane Freezer:
Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

If there's one thing I agree with it's eating good at a cabin. Those ribs looked great and that Baby Rays is my favorite too. Frankie made me laugh trying to dig up the chippies, his antics never get old. Another excellent video Boss, keep up the good work.

Hey there Chris. Yes the spuds would have been great but the rice filled the void just nicely. I usually cook a ham outside for Christmas and the second fire is needed for replenishing the coals. I'm not much of a charcoal user, just too cheap I guess ha ha.

Love the dutch oven. Been using cast iron for 40 years. One trick I learned from my Nordic grandmother in law that I have used ever since, use a base of sauerkraut. It tenderizes the ribs like you will not believe. Works just as well in a regular oven. And the kraut is fabulous as a side dish having soaked up the rib renderings.

    • @thebossoftheswamp
      @thebossoftheswamp  9 років тому

I have used sauerkraut with pork in the crockpot but never with ribs. Sounds interesting and I'll have to give it a go. Thanks for the tip.

thebossoftheswamp When I was growing up my mom used to cook baby back ribs in the oven over Saturday night for a Sunday dinner. But she also would cook country style ribs in the oven with sauerkraut for a change. Dad and I liked the bbq better and mom liked the ribs and kraut better but when it was all said and done the leftovers did not last very long.

Dutch ovens are great aren't they? Such a rewarding method of cooking. Food don't taste like this in a microwave.

Awesome video Boss. We just wrapped up our third annual old fashioned Thanksgiving dinner at the property; all items cooked in cast iron and/or on the campfire. The end result was a fantastic meal. We really enjoy cooking with cast iron, and it seems to make everything taste so much better. In fact, the leftovers were reheated on the wood stove in those same cast iron pots. So good. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work.

Love your vids as usual, it's been a brutal winter here in the Northwoods lookin forward to doing some smoking. Got a few beaver this year, started late in the season, gorgeous colors, damage control on private pond. You have a good heart, a man with great morals, and a beautiful dog.......
