Oh my God! This brings back SO MANY memories. I lived in these houses 50 years ago as a 10 year old kid. Now I'm in the US and I often thought of old Andrews Ganj and maybe one day I would visit. Thank you for this video, but I am cancelling that plan. My old spacious and neat Andrews Ganj now looks almost like a slum. Gosh, what a shock.
Believe it or not, in those days Andrews Ganj was at the border of Delhi, yes! From our house terrace we could see miles of farmland. There were very few people and the congested market you see was open and very spacious. BTW, this Type-3 quarter was called F-Type in those days. There were 3 types of quarters: C-type (aka chaprasi quarter) a 1-room, 1-kitchen affair with shared toilet/bath. Next up was F-type that you see in this video. Next up was D-II which was for high govt officials and quite good.
There were large play grounds between rows of houses and overall it was such a wonderful place to grow up.
South Extension next door was the hep place where 'modern' houses and english-speaking hep crowd was found. My dad used to take me there for cone ice cream when he got his salary every month.
Sigh! gone with the wind.
