    Excellent video, thank you for the great work. Milky stage might be best if maize is drying faster, but the most recommend is "dough stage" when is 3/4 milk stage (that is when its on mahindi choma stage with a few cobs still milky), this stage you get most maize grain starch and at the same time keeping a green maize stalk. What is important we need to wait as much as we can for maize grain to foten(not mikly and not hard) i.e. "dough stage" but monitoring maize itself isikauke, that the best

      chuffcutter works well for me as a small scale farmer.Silage chopper is the best for large scale farmers.Engine with high hose power or pto driven

      Poa sana.You first mix your silage with the fodder you used to feed before and increase feeding silage with time.You can also mix silage + nappier+ hay+ dairy meal and minerals to make a complete tmr.

    • @FredDairyFarm
      @FredDairyFarm  2 місяці тому +2

      1/4 acre.But i source fodder from other leased places.On average currently am doing 18 litres but improving with time.

      @FredDairyFarm that's good but what's the price of leasing and are the leased farm with nappier grass plant ready on the farm?

    • @FredDairyFarm
      @FredDairyFarm  2 місяці тому +2

      @@Xaswawa-rz2et For my case,i leased a bushy field and i had to clear it and dig,then planted maize for silage.1 acre goes for 12k per year.Make sure you have a lease agreement before leasing

    Some people discourage the use of magadi sodium chloride reasoning that sodium chloride reacts with calcium an other elements in other cattle salt.. what is your reaction

    Pit dimensions for one acre maize farm

    • @FredDairyFarm
      @FredDairyFarm  5 місяців тому +1

      1 ton (40 cubic feet) = 1.133 cubic metres.
      Cubic is length X Width X height..You calculate the amount of tonnes from one acre because it differs with how you planted,weather, and the seed quality used and spacing used.
