Robertson wanting a trade because of play time is hilarious. If he thinks about the leafs situation even a little he'd realize his time is now. I don't understand how a player can be so injury prone than complain about playing time. Self awareness and common sense is out the door for some of these players
Don't forget he's a liability on defense...that earned him less time a lot last year.
Robertson hasn't earned the ice time. He's had opportunities on all 3 lines. but nothing to get excited about. He needs a playmaking centre, and Leafs don't have one. I'd package him with Liljegren in a trade to try and fill some holes on LW or 3C.
Offence needs to be a premium. No excuses for not getting a real top 6 player, look at Edmonton 10 mill in cap space and they get even better with the value contracts Skinner might score 30-35 next year same as Arvidsson yet the Leafs only get Max Domi for 3.6. This team needs Offence that can show up in the playoffs.
Marner and Liljegren to Vegas for Pietrangelo, a forward, a prospect and first round draft pick.
Alex P is too old and expensive. Theodore would be a better target.
they're likely trading for a top six forward than a defenseman
Robertson is only decent 30 feet from the other teams net, if he has time to shoot the puck. Otherwise soft everywhere else. Doesn’t play center and definitely is not a pk player. Kampf and Jarnkok over Robertson all day.
agreed
Nice to get some help on D. But aren't they still just running it back??
Thus the reason it's trade Szn
I love your videos Andrew, very informative!! Thank you, keep up the great work!!
Jarny is a MUST keep. Hes part of the plan. great+/- player.
How likely/unlikely is it that Hakanpaa will play in October or at all for Toronto? I just read his knee is totalled
There's no question that something is brewing trade wise, for at least a couple of reasons. One is that running it back would be plain insanity. For 8 years we have had the same results, and scoring in the postseason has been a problem. Also, please correct me if I'm wrong Andrew, but I believe they're over the cap right now and will need to do something tradewise to both improve the team, as well as come under cap compliance. Strangely, Vegas was quite on July 1st and Marner's camp has also been quiet, which makes me wonder if something is in the works. I agree with your take on a Marner trade....the right pieces, spread across the roster would be a huge help.
Both the Leafs and Vegas are over the cap. Like you said something might be brewing there. Marner needs to go to a new home. This might be the perfect place! It would be a win, win for both teams.
They don't neeeeed to make a trade to get under the cap.
@@marconion Wherever he goes (preferably the West), we should get a good return.
@@CP_SplitTheDefense They're allowed to be non-compliant only under the regular season starts, so something will have to happen. That said, I think a trade for the right reasons is somewhere in the near future.
@@GospelTestimony they could be cap compliant tomorrow without a trade.
Jarnkrok is on a good value contract. He's defensively responsible (rare amongst Leaf forwards), can play either wing, up and down the lineup as needed, he's a keeper. Kampf is a decent player, but 2.4M... yikes. In a trade, they would have to retain a piece of that, but he is replaceable. Robertson should be moved to get a fresh start somewhere else. His game is weak, and he has nowhere to go in the lineup. Still shocked Liljegren got 3M x 2. thought he might not even get a qualifying offer.
Jarnkrok has 5 goals in 90 something playoff games. He disappears
Totally agree. I'd look to trade him for sure.
Leafs absolutely need help up front. A power forward who can make up for their lack of size and some scoring ability. Doesn't have to be another Mathews for another Kneis would look great.
Let's look at moving Taveras
Mitch Marner for Nicholas Roy and Shea Theodore done like dinner.
I'd do that if Vegas adds a pick, either a 2nd or the 2027 1st. Leafs can add Liljegren.
Hard fitting Theodore in now but Add
Knights--Marner, Robertson and Liljgren
Leafs--Theodore, Karlsson/Barbashev, Roy and a 1st
Works out better cap wise.
yeah, benn thing along those lines. Originally thought Theodore and Thompson, but Thompson now gone elsewhere. Marner has to agree to waive his NMC, and no signs yet that he will.
I'm not as worried about the offence if we bring back Robertson. But I'd be interested in a Liljegren for Matheson deal. Ofc we would need to add.
Not much can be done with Tavares and Marner, but the Leafs need to move some bodies. I would not be upset to see Timmins, Kaamp, Jarkrok, Liljegren and Reaves traded. The problem is they don't have much trade value.
I agree with the list, except for Jarnkrok
@@michaelkirkpatrick7483 If I had to pick one to keep it would be Jarnkrok
hell yea
3 more defence men signed today? Clearly they have a big trade coming or why stack bodys
If they trade marner who are they gonna ask for
Ppl say the big fin was cleared by doctors from Dallas and concern on his injury... maybe a ltir move 🤷♂️
This team can STILL upgrade ALOT. So I would like to upgrade 3C theres just no good options on the FA market anymore that are an upgrade on Kampf or even close to his skills/output. My idea moves are Move out Timmins , Reeves to whoever . They can aquire both Brandon Tanev AND Scott Laughton at 50% retained keeping both Kampf and Jarnkrok on the roster. To me thats easily one of the best rosters the leafs would have in YEARS.
Kampf stays as the 4C where he should be. and Tanev can fill the last LW spot.
Nick Robertson is asking for a trade.. Why not put him in a trade to aquire a guy like Laughton. Whos controllable for another 2 years super cheap.
Flyer's ask for Laughton is pretty high. Otherwise a trade would have happened already. Doubt Torts would be thrilled with either Robertson or Liljegren.
Marner, Liljgren & Robertson
For
Theodore, Roy, Holtz ,Korczak & 1st
If you trade marner you need a top 6 center and playmaker winger… even if you combo kampf and jarnkrok and timmons i am not sure anyone has what we need in a trade that we do not get worse offensively
Cant be worse then the lack of goals come playoff time for Marner and the core.
@@willsk7068Marner has produced more than Matthews and Nylander in the playoffs overall. It's a depth issue don't kid yourself.
Bring me Ross Colton please.
Perfect 3C for the Leafs, can cause havoc too.
yeah, Colton would be a great add. Robertson and Liljegren can both go to Denver
I would definitely keep nick robbertson. Knies robbertson cowan. Under berrube. Bye bye marner.
Toronto right now are 700.000 over the cap
Have 1 for you . Robertson and Lilly to Edmonton for a 2nd and Connor Brown
Trade Robertson and tag Kampf in the deal. Only way your getting rid of him or Reeves
TJ Brodie signs 2 yrs for $3.75 milllion per yr with Chicago black hawks he joins Bertuzzi.
Any Marner trade is going to require significant draft capital coming back along with a good player and prospect. You don’t trade a 100 point top 15 player for peanuts.
The Leafs need to upgrade their 3rd center. They also need to replace Tavares next year. If Marner can play center… which he did in junior, pretty smart to keep him, no? Marner played defense for the Leafs, of course he can be a center. Exit Tavares and now you have a ton of cap space. The Leafs can upgrade in the bottom part of their roster with cheaper talent and they can even open space for rookies.
Marner should easily fetch a 1st rounder, and a depth forward, and if Tavares re-signs for less than 5 mil, this team could be nutty. Defense should night and day different.
I want Barbashev for Marner
I think we should keep Marner and try to trade Tavares or buy him out
That's 100% not going to happen. Tavares is going nowhere. Marner is the piece that will be moved if the right deal is there and Marner agrees to. Marner holds all the cards here!
Keep marner. So we have no cap next year or years going forward. Me all midas well not watch this year because this team is not going any where. We couldn't score in the playoffs last season. What makes you think we can do it now. Because we picked up some D 😂. We need depth, we dont have it. This doomed if we keep going forward with big contract and nothing to show for it.
Marner is just a gaping hole in the Leafs. That contract is utterly disgraceful
He has a year left on his deal and they can resign him for cheaper let him walk. Marner has value and Leafs still need another top Dman imo.
@@alexleblanc5926 if he doesn't accept a trade i would let him walk! Even if they get nothing for him the cap relief is a valuable asset.
I am shocked at how many people are ignorant to the “definition of insanity “ we just changed our goaltending and D drastically from last year. Room for moves but “core” alone is not going to IMPROVE the team.
Trading marner frees up money but does not make us a better team, much better to sign him 8 years with a 10 team
and I am shocked ppl try and use that “definition” in sports. It makes no sense. It’s just an off-the-cuff remark a smart guy made in a very specific physics or science context. Not sports 😅 no surprise somebody advocating to sign Mitch marner to 8 years is using that silly “definition” in his reasoning
Having more than half your cap tied up with just 5 players is total insanity. There is no other team in the league in that situation. It means you can't afford quality depth players, you have to settle for looking for bargains or hidden gems, and the core can't do it alone. All the opposing teams have to do in the playoffs is shut down the core, and it's game over. The character of the core makes it easier to shut them down, so teams don't find them that tough to play against. Marner is so good a player that Leafs would not win a trade with him involved. Yet he appears to be the chosen one to ship out, if he agrees to waive his NMC. They need to balance out their roster payroll.
Sell them to the states so I can win more on gambling. Let’s go Minnesota Maple Trees.
Timmins and Wee-Robby out the door soon 🎉. get rid of them
Bring kadri back
Bye bye MM
Marners not leaving
Thanks for the tip Mitch
Marner has stated that he will NOT waive his no move clause, so we can forget that idea and there is no way in hell JT will waive his either.
When did he state that? I call bs
@c_telking4433 there was article today about it. I forget the writer sorry.
Marner has not officially said that. He's actually said nothing at all. His Agent said he wants to honour his contract blah blah, but nothing besides that.
@@michaelkirkpatrick7483 in other words,he's not going anywhere
.. Trade for Kasperi Kapanen ... He's only 1 Million bucks a year .
This is nowhere a Stanley Cup team. Edmonton has a way better team I think this is a worse team the last year
The best of the 3 stars to trade is Matthews. He has a contract with term which will bring back a good amount of talent and draft choices. He is American which helps. But keep in mind that any player that has. NMC is going to need good compensation in order to waive it. Probably $2 or 3 million which will go against the salary cap.
They are never trading Matthews, nor should they. He is going to be their captain next year.
What DUMB take... 😂. dummies being dummies
@@johnnyfry2 I don't want any of Matthews, Marner or Nylander traded. They are all vital to any success the team will have. But Matthews would bring the most back due to his contract.
@@johnnyfry2 100% agree!
@@johnsummerhill8323 I wouldn't re-sign Marner even if he begged to only be paid the league minimum.
