Good run. Congrats. I have the current #3 score on Twin Galaxies (formerly #1). I've been thinking about making another run at the top spot, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a pattern for level 6 to group the bad guys together with two peppers (sometimes one if I'm lucky). Anyway, this was fun to see.
WOW!!! I am chill bump excited, honest, have wanted to bump fists with you forever!!! I'll try to do the "short version"-I wasn't too good at games, but played them forever-I got in a youtube tunnel and saw JD's patterns on the early stages, established a friendship, and tho I did do my own exploration and stuff(my l-5 leaves a lot to be desired...found a better way later, but too lazy to do it again...), he really mentored me, encouraged me all the way to the top spot. He says I play way faster than everyone else, saving minimal peppers, took about an hour off the typical K/S time. Haha, I first put up a 500k score, and said "I will get the #1 spot"-took hours a day for about three months, but finally got it!!! No hometown parade, I was a little disappointed. :D Was the very first "competitive scoring" I had ever done, and...it led to an addiction. Over 1K TGWR's, haha, "Most Prolific" three years in a row, PC/Console Gamer of the year 2019, and I'm actually eyeing the top ESI spot, very doable-I have/play almost every system made... Funny thing is-after all that whirlwind, three or four years-no way I could even do "well" on BT right this moment, ha, it's been pushed out of my brain! I'm willing to play again oneday, but only on a real cabinet-super, super proud of this score/achievement, but no way I'd be determined to defend it. Anyway, I came across JD's videos and used them as inspiration to try for the record. I didn't reach out to him but he did reach out to me to congratulate me after I set the record. I've largely fallen away from gaming, focusing on my job and the occasional Resident Evil or Final Fantasy entry. Current events have given me enough free time to consider giving BT another shot. I was a pretty hardcore NES and SNES player back in the '80s and '90s, though. I have a TG account but with all the ownership changes, my original account no longer exists. I've reached out to try and merge my old account with my new one, but so far no one has responded. When I get back up and running on TG then I'll probably start practicing again.

Watched some of this myself just now-Thanks, Al! The guy playing this isn't quite the free-form, fun loving guy you usually know. Every single moment is planned out, I'm watching myself stop halfway up a ladder, to the right or left of a ladder, on purpose, over and over and wondering how the heck I remembered all this to pull this off, I was as committed to this as anyone could ever be to a game. This score could be topped w/o beating the killscreen, yes, but-only barely. Was an experience I'll never forget. Or try to do again, lol!
Months of practice!!! :) It's pretty much all I did for three solid months. Learn a few patterns, then start developing your own. It takes a while, but you get a feel for it.

What exactly is it that you are doing on the center ladder during the grouping phase on level 2? There is a series of hesitations as you draw the enemies up. I do not see what the cue is to prevent the trailing hot dog from going left instead of following you up. (5:20-5:23)
I knew it had to deal with the 'grouping' trick. At first I didn't understand why you were taking so long to drop them after they'd grouped together but now I get it. Make the level last longer by making the burgers last longer-- getting individual pieces down towards the bottom one at a time. Sheer genius! Nets you a great score before the bad guys get WAY too freaking fast. Fantastic!
To make sure I mentioned to ya-I learned SOO much getting started on this game,and help with tough spots later,from JD Lowe,he is the MAN,and Brian Wagner is the ninjaguru on the arcade(...real)version. This was one of Billy Mitchell's big games years ago,and I imagine he could have/still could take this game to another level,but mebbe he's just not as interested in it as other games. Ya,the grouping. This game KILLED me for years,playing occasionally. I saw JD do it,and was AMAZED. When I"closed in"on the record,my actual goal was to not miss a single drop,let the score take care of itself,which I did,and it did,haha! I missed a couple peppers on the L6 levels,and I know how to get two peppers on the L-5 levels,so I can push this higher. But no point,really. Until JD beats me back. ;). Right now,tho-Peter Pepper,seriously. I got kinda slammed(in very friendly ways) for my,umm,approach to it on Twin Galaxies,so I decided to try it for real. It is basically like Burgertime,can be played the same way,patterns,,sort of,and I get to figure this one out on my own. Unless someone wants to help. You? JD? We can roll it over,I know it! Don't know how you feel about arcade games from the 90s but if you're inclined you can check them out; I also have a "20 From" series for each year of the '80s, and an incomplete series for the 70s. Burgertime obviously made the list for the year 1982. PP's ICF did not make the 1984 list, unsurprisingly. :)
@@mindnomad If you can believe it, for the life of me I can't exactly remember-around 125 tho. The game doesn't actually show you how many lives you have, haha, is the obvious problem! I'd usually kill them off until it was less than the life meter registered, as I wasn't planning to accidentally die anyway!
@@Poco48 So the game uses something called a Signed Byte to store the lives; it means you can have up to 127 lives. If you get one more, it technically becomes 128, but then negative, so now it's -128; the next life you get becomes -127, and then -126, etc. So if you die while it's negative, it's an immediate game over!

Only one person has ever accomplished it in a real game, Bryan Wagner-you can spray peppers wiil-nilly, lol, and make it to a "safe spot" at the top of the screen-after a while, the action slows down to extreme slow motion, as you have broken the game at that point. I totally knew it was possible, but I knew I didn't need to try, to beat the MAME W/R. This is also something of a speedrun to the killscreen, a smidge over 3 hours, it's usually around 4 1/2 hours, but I wasn't "saving peppers" to even try to beat the killscreen.

I see that near the end, the game is essentially unplayable. The enemies are just too fast to escape from.
