9:11 I have no doubt that aikido techniques work. I mean, it's not difficult to prove that they do. Just have someone apply a sankyo to your wrist. It hurts! So, for me, the question is NOT whether aikido "works" or not. The criticism I hear from people is with HOW aikido techniques are PRACTICED.
As an example, let's just examine how tanto defense is often trained in many dojos. Both people start static, standing directly in front of one another. The attacker attacks in a fully committed, straight-lined attack. But is this how things happen in real life? The answer is "No". In real life, the attacker will not even show you the knife. Or, even if he does, he may or may not attack with 100% commitment. He may not attack in a straight line. He may feint, jab step to his right, feint again, then step to his left to attack from a completely different angle. He may stab high, pull back, stab low, pull back, slash for your face, slash at your arms, etc. He may fake a slash and kick you in the groin. Or he may just bull rush you, and stab frantically with the knife in a prison "sewing machine" fashion.
I am hoping that one day you have a podcast discussing how aikido techniques are trained, and share your thoughts and opinions on how realistic these training techniques are. Do they need to be changed? Or are they fine the way they are?

The white guy is all wrong about the Spartans. The Spartans were ban from the Olympics because Spartan Pankration was different from the Greek pankration the Spartan had no rules, and that was not acceptable to the other pankration athletes. Spartans perspective was reality and the battlefield.
