The first drag queen shown is the fabulous Maggie Burns who performed with Cindy, Pola and Trixie Lamonte at Patches during the early 80's.
The Exchange hotel was the best in its day with the amazing Julie Ashton & Maggie Burns as Dj..🖤
The last drag guy saying he has a wife and kid was a famous drag queen back in the day. I can't remember his name( so embarrassing) but the movie Priscilla Queen of the desert was inspired by his life.
Rebecca Seppanen Cindy Pastel, Richie Finger
So sad the lockout laws have killed all of this. It is a different world these days and I go anywhere I like and don't get hassled but these places were a safe haven for people for years
Fascinating. Have you any more footage of Oxford Street?
Sydney’s gay life is bit better than melbourne ‘s
Ahahahaha it was extreme in Sydney.
Does anyone know who owns this film?
None of these kinds of realities were ever taught in school.. maybe that's part of the problem that Australia doesn't really know its own history very well. Yet we're expected to deal with all the foreign issues or have foreign doctors that come from such a different cultural background that they begin to damage those who have lived here through their own ignorance and lack of understanding. I have every right to be pissed off about that.
In 1980, this was underground, far from ever teaching this in school. Schools truly need to focus on reading, writing and arithmetic which kids are very poor at these days.
Ship Inn Hotel (great name !)
David Bowie influenced many people indeed !!

0:58 Millie Minogue as a dude wow
