      ua-cam.com/channels/JsWWlZn3SrQNEiTli-9jJw.html Unless Sweden is not 'in the west' then the 'Cobra Maneuver' was not made up by Pugachev. In fact, it was already decades old. J35 Draken... look it up. Then add a text line overlay to correct the information when that line comes up around the 28 minute mark. The Narrator did not know.

      the most unpleasant thing is that the United States offered to purchase Russian catapults. but having bought samples, they simply copied the system. Now US pilots are being saved by a system developed in the USSR. the USSR that they hate because of their propaganda. the same USSR that built weapons for defense when the United States built weapons for attack.

    I'm a 66 y.o. woman from Argentina. My dream was to become a fighter pilot but women were not allowed in the military when I was young...
    Look at that beauty!!! My heart beats so fast when I see her "tamed" by such magnificent pilots!!! I admire and envy them.
    It must be so hard when a pilot has done his very last flight, steps down... and sees her in new hands!😭💔

      I don’t intend to insult anyone on this comment but I’d like to mention what I know. Russia has always fought in wars very poorly in the beginning and their losses were monumental. We can see examples of this starting from the Finnish Winter War, Operation Barbarossa, Afghanistan and other small conflicts in their region they participated in. Their pilots are pretty good for the most part but they’re always slow on developing good tactics, effective supply chain and good leaders that’s critical in winning or just surviving a battle. So far we’re watching the same cycle all over again but this one is far different since Russia doesn’t want to deploy a maximum effort from the beginning which probably would’ve overwhelmed the Ukrainians but they would likely trigger retaliations from NATO and start a wider conflict so Russia is fighting with one hand tied to their leg so they throw in older equipment and various militias and even a border guard unit of all things! Imagine if we put rifles in the hands of all our animal control personnel and point them towards an enemy and slap them on the back, this kind of reminds me of that.
      As a retired US Army Infantryman, I’ve fought in two wars where the enemy used soviet era weapons and armored vehicles, they’re all easy to take out but they can do serious damage if we allowed them to. I’ve spent quite a long time studying Soviet battle tactics and little has changed on their doctrine since the late 80’s. We’re also seeing poor quality soldiers and pilots even as they deploy their first line quality people, they make stupid mistakes that makes me shake my head, and it’s also seen on the Ukrainian side, it’s like they’re asking to be shot. Russia has always used deception as a weapon more than other countries, they want an enemy to perceive they’re weak in some aspects that would attract a response from their enemy so, we have to keep that in the back of our minds as we evaluate things. Here’s an example of what I mean; tank units have standard procedures when they have to stop for more than an hour, they spread out with at least 100 meters between tanks, sometimes a bit closer then erect their camo nets and post security to ensure they can see and hear any enemy trying to sneak up on them. But for the Russian tankers, they clump together like it’s a camping trip and do it in the wide open instead of a wood line 50 meters away! And, you’ll never see a camo net put up when it would’ve helped a lot. Some camo nets could possibly help defend those little 40mm bomb those drones have been dropping the men in the trenches have been dealing with but even overhead cover would better protect them but seems they consider that requires too much effort. I could go on and on but I’m preaching to the choir on this but you get the idea. When Russia deploys mass amounts of troops, aircraft, tanks, artillery and everything else but the kitchen sink, that’s when Russia is serious about all this. And why in the hell is that bridge not completely destroyed yet? It obviously makes it easier for Russia to move their logistics around but Ukraine can’t seem to properly take it out?
      The Russians have some excellent modern fighters but again, it all matters who’s flying the plane and leading their squadron. These Russian pilots have little to no air defense help to protect them which is something the US Army and Air Force would seriously protest since it’s a no brainer that they’re going to be nearly slaughtered in short order.
      My apologies for being long winded, just wanted to present considerations and maybe someone knows more about this topic that I’m unaware of.

    What really amazes me the most is exactly when and how this marvel was designed and made. Just imagine how hard it was without the computer programs and power of today. Just amazing.
    EDIT: also wanted to say how ahead of its time it was. Imagine how surprised NATO was when they fully understood how great this fighter was at both distance and close range. If a war actually happened, does anyone know if our distance capabilities were better with the F-15, as an example?

    • @JohnGaltAustria
      @JohnGaltAustria Рік тому +7

      A resounding yes.

    • @ttrestle
      @ttrestle Рік тому +6

      @@JohnGaltAustria ok, so our distance capabilities on our F-15 variants were way better than the Su-27s, even though the Su-27s were better at the time with thrust-vectoring, thus would probably be better against the F-15s at extreme close-range dog-fighting. But, the whole point of American/NATO strategy was having a jet fighter and strike capability where we could destroy a target from a far greater capability than the Su-27 or any other potential enemy’s jet fighter at the time.
      I will say that I would be utterly fascinated to see these two planes go against each other in a real world close quarter dogfight conflict just to see what happened, even though I obviously don’t want to see people fighting and dying. Just like I would like to see the F-16 go against the Su-27 in a close quarter dogfight just to see what happens. Again-I’m saying if the over the horizon capabilities were gone for the F-15/16… Not sure if this makes sense with how I’m writing it out, but I’m assuming that you get my points and what I’d like to see without actual deaths…

    Great documentary this one. One thing that was barely talked about was the initial SU-27 was such a failure it was completely redesigned at a huge cost and embarrassment to the designers.
    The wing was a dead giveaway as is the very forward mounted nose gear. It was awful to fly, had control issues and severe buffeting that couldn't be remedied.
    As an Aircraft Engineer of 30 years one thing I have understood at least with regards to the MiG-29 and Su-27 families, is that they are better combat aircraft than what the west has. Agility wise.
    The F-22 at least on paper looks like a better aircraft but there aren't many documentaries about it. Many Say the YF-23 was a better aircraft in many ways. Pilot training is where the west trumps the Russians.
    In saying that, most western fighters, modern day ones consume Billions of dollars and they still aren't great. F-35 ring a bell?
    Russian aircraft look rough up close in comparison and they aren't designed to last 60+ years in service.
    When the Mig-35 was released it took an already very capable aircraft in the MiG-29, and made it leaps and bounds a better war plane. 3D thrust vectoring FTW! Similar story with the SU-37. These two side by side the size difference is enormous.
    The lovely ole' chap saying that his Eurofighter can perform the same maneuvers with canards is simply incorrect. For canards and all other flight controls for that matter, you need airflow over these surfaces for them to be effective. If a pilot is doing 150mph and wants to flip the aircraft nose to tail, quickly, vectored thrust is the only way to achieve it. Canards are only of use at speed.
    Still I love what both sides release and really hope the only time we see these magnificent aircraft is at airshows.

    • @davidste60
      @davidste60 Рік тому +2

      He didn't say the Eurofighter can perform the same maneuvers. He said the large canards far forward on the airframe give maneuverability at supersonic speeds, without a need for thrust vectoring. And that low speed tricks like the cobra and viffing are not a problem for the Eurofighter's *weapons systems*, and many other weapons systems too.

    Canards are not equivalent to vectored thrust. The former is a control surface that requires airflow. Low airflow renders them useless. Thrust vectoring has no such limitation.

Even the Chinese wouldn't be pushed so much on armament if 'meriken fanatix wouldn't mess around Chinese sea with their floating crap. So the Chinese had to make a missile or two, to send that crap on the bottom when needed, and don't get mad on them if happen, because imagine Chinese flotilas stinking around the 'merikan coasts how the 'merikens are stinking around other borders and coasts.

    when you see su-27 you think its origin is Russia. wrong completely wrong. when I was little I held a swallow in my hands. later saw a newspaper called flygrevun from Sweden. then the F-14, F-15 and F-16 were brand new aircraft the year was 1978 in famberuw UK. at the same time thought of something very maneuverable and takes more 10 tons of weapons and has a cockpit so you can see 360° around true a strong radar and a combination of F-14 and F-16. this was long before su-27 and test and prototype you T-10. Su-27 and MiG-29 are invented by a Swede. it is I who write this who came up with su-27 and mig-29 and not CCCP or Russia and you and me but me, long before su T-10 was even thought of. then the Swedish state banned me as an animal of radical hippie who looked like crap in my eyes. if I lived in the US I would work for NASA or Lockheed, MD and save other aerospace companies from going under. happy new year 🇺🇲🇸🇪🤠😎💋🥂🍾🥇🎓🐯

    air-forces have not engaged in close-range "dog fights" chasing each others tail with their forward-pointing guns as a standard way of fighting since World War 2.
    Isreal engaged in dogfights in the 1970s against Soviet MiGs flown by Egypt & Syria, but that was mostly because no one would sell Isreal the latest a2a missiles, they had no choice.
    So the Russian & armchair nerding out over Russian acrobatics vs NATO fighters which carry a2a missiles and guidance systems several generations more advanced is kinda ridiculous.
    This geeking out over acrobatics superiority is like having a fully armed Speznaz team vs a fully armed Seal team,
    but then debating who would win if both sides used up all their weapons to no avail, and both were forced to fight against each other with their bare hands on a rock climbing wall.
    Russians arguably would win this ridiculous scenario, with a bunch of caveats, however the fantasy scenario basically requires BOTH sides to have first operated in the most incompetent idiotic manner, to end up on a rock wall with no weapons for "acrobats" or fighter maneuverability to come into play.
    The only meaningful vs scenario is "if Russian fighters had the full NATO a2a, a2g, small thermonuclear, antiship, HARM anti missile-defense radar, etc, weapons fully integrated to control by Russian airframes vs NATO, who would win?"
    Russian fighters still lose, unless now we go full fantasy about integrating all NATO electronic warfare, radar, IIRS, sensors, & targeting avionics into the airframe.
    As an example of progress, the pinnacle of 1980s sports cars Ferrari Testarossa would lose a race to a 2010 factory Ford Fusion ST hatchback...that's straight line, switchback, hill-climb would be a laughing joke, aerial acrobatics have virtually zero relevance to combat effectiveness with modern fighters. Zero!
