Brings back memories. I was a clerk with the HQMC Promotions Board when it moved from the Navy Annex to Quantico. This was 98-99. I worked in this same building...Harry Lee Hall.
Not impress at all, the system for a non-0300 is just perfect from their perspective. Recommendations are made by peers with similar MOS's. Maybe that was the reason I did not get promoted to Gysgt as an 0369. I retired with twenty years as an 0369 with plenty of combat and field time (meaning schools, awards and more). I'm not complaining just disappointed the system plays out to some of us. SSgt Gamba 0369 retired
grinsson gamba the system is seriously is flawed. The RS can and will send an email to the promotion board and tell them not to promote you. How do I know this....when a stupid ass CWO tells you that you sound better than him.....next thing you know....you go from 8 years of combat, (1) Navy and Marine Corps Medal (3) Navy Coms...the last one a “V” (5) NAM’s (2) combat action.... I can go on... Masters degree and working on a PHD.... 2nd degree black belt instructor No prior adverse material, no prior NJP’s 280 PFT / 298 CFT 14 Award expert 6 Award pistol But I would never get promoted as that CWO hated that I was a go getter and sounded better to the C.O. Than he did..... Yeah it’s seriously fucking flawed.... So flawed that I saw superb marines get out because of piss poor leadership in non-grunt MOS’s. As for grunt MOS’s....holy fuck it’s bullshit.....you re-enlist as a LCpl....and then you decide to go the 8541 route to get a promotion...you finally pin on Sgt at 7 years and then SSgt at 12 years....just got a cheesedick cocksucking fat lazy CWO to give you an adverse for some bullshit and then your promotion to GySgt is stalled.....but then he gets relieved of duty for fucking a Cpl. After it’s all said and done...I had a good SgtMaj that at least for me frocked to GySgt....2 months later I medically retire with full pay and benefits. Again......this is a bullshit video with a fucked up and seriously flawed promotion system
@@MountaintravelerEddie what a career you had, very impressive. Devil Dog, same from my side plenty of awards to include combat action, Navy NAM's and more. And still a broken system. @@ggamba9729 100% Agree. Grunt unit command should have direct control and say over Staff NCO unit promotion. It shouldn't feel like you got lucky because some POG pulled your name out of a hat. Obviously certain criteria should be met. As you were, Carry on with the plan of the day.
You didn’t get promoted to GySgt cause other Staff Sergeants beat you out of an allocation. Doesn’t mean you were a bad SSgt, but based on the record other SSgt 0369 were better.
Why have 3 briefings of stellar Marines? I think it would serve the purpose greatly if they had one or two different briefings of sub-par/non-PME complete briefs to showcase why its important to take PME and Marine skills seriously versus just being proficient at their MOS.
Can someone explain what it means at the end when they recommended the Marine as a 6. What's the highest and lowest? What is good and what number get promoted?
Matt Way its at the beginning of the video. With the slide with all the check marks. At the bottom you can see what 2-6 means. 2 is the worst 6 is the best.
Very informative video, I've always wondered how the SNCO promotion board process worked this video gives an good insight into the process.

Very helpful, thanks to the Marines that put this together. My whole Bn will have this soon! Ur-Rah!

They Won't brief Marines who aren't PME complete, but one stellar and one sub-par would've been a good idea.
bruh if you don’t have to know your job to be promoted that is the biggest crap to be said
Jacko Willink SAY'S there are NO BAD TEAMS JUST BAD LEADERS.... SO some 1 puts the Leaders THERE !!!!!!!
How times have changed
I feel like I’ve seen this Gunny in a DI video
Eat the apple....you know the rest
Do- Da -Do- Da. Yes I do know the rest. Haven't heard that I a long time. Oh! I did censor the chorus. Thanks for the laugh!
Hahaha
😆👌🏼
Company Gunny said that!

what percentage are rated at 6? top 5%?
how does the process work if one is not pme complete but is currently in the course and has a letter submitted to the board?
From what I understand is that you need to be PME complete before the convening date if not you don't even get looked at.
Who calls their daughter Major??? Kind of weird!!
An A J squared away jarhead Marine family.
POGs promoting POGs....and why are they wearing camo and not Charlie.
Cause this ain’t 1960. The uniform of the day is normally camouflage utilities.
what in the world is "water walker"
it is me, DIO
gnmorales1 means that Marine is “comparable to Jesus “
In this era of technology..they waste time..and billets. Instead of serving down range
So these are promotions when Marines get out?
It's all horseshit
