Sir in example of past perfect tense.... Two different tense can come.... One simple past and another past perfect....
Like I had played cricket before he came..... And this sentence is perfectly fine...
So may be this is exception of rule 2
Yes yes. Just one thing to remember here : The tenses of verbs in a sentence must be consistent when the actions happen at the same time. When dealing with actions that occur at different points of time, however, we can use multiple tenses in the same sentence.
