Do you have the Action 4? What´s your thoughts👇
After the Go Pro Hero 12 came out and ended up being little more than an optimization pass on the GPH11 and LOSS of the GPS feature I dropped the hammer on the Action 4. Should be here tomorrow!
you need to set minimum shutter 1/100, to get good stabilizatoin in low light ;) yes, you can set minimum/maximum shutter in action 4/3
@KikoPL i know.. BUT this is the lowlight image enhancement. Most people getting this, turns it on, all auto and goes for it. My point is, this should be better since it’s hugely advertised 🤷
eyeing this for my first action, keen for the low light deep dive! cheers mate.
Little thing nobody seems to be talking about that I tried out yesterday. There is a plastic lens hood in the pack, just like the normal lens cover but without the glass. If you switch over to that on very sunny days you no longer get any lens flare in your footage ;) Just remember to change it back over to the normal one if it is wet as camera is not waterproof if you switch over. Also removing the glass cover in low light is meant to dramatically increase quality as well as the iso drops slightly. However just be careful and dont drop camera.
For low light situation give it a try to remove the lens protection and install the lens hood (loosing the waterproof by the way) and/or shoot in manual, shutter between 1/200 and 1/400 adjusting ISO accordingly or as someone else commented remove completely the stabilization and apply in post with gyroflow (but only at certain given resolution/fps you can read when you turn off the stabilization
I have it, did my first vlog with it and I love it! double touch screen, fast charging and natural colors ! no regrets :)
Encouraging comment. I received mine a couple of days ago and it's still in the box unopened as I'm having jitters thinking that perhaps I should've bought the GP12. I think I'll stick to my guns and open the box ☺.
Subscribed! We'll wait for your OA4 best settings for low light.
Hello from Indonesia, very good review and i got the whole pic. Just want to ask, the footage are straight from camera or colorgrading ?
I got OA4 and the night shots, I use Davinci Resolves Noise Reduction, I just set the camera to NR -1, Sharpness 0, by doing it, it's damn good enough at night, but I hope they improve the hardware denoiser of OA4 or maybe OA5. I know a lot of people rely on the camera noise reduction for higher ISO, but try doing it on post, if might improve yours
Great review and nice camera…like most action cameras it will still be challenged in low light and movement, it’s just a bit better than the GP. Hard to beat for functionality and reliability: video looks good too although I still like GP colours slightly better. At the end of the review all I really knew…was that I would love a motorcycle! Nicely done!
Haha thanks mate😅😃
I have purchased the Action 4 recently, I was using an Hero10 before. And I do prefer the Action 4 over the Hero 10, it's much better camera in many ways. I don't really do much low-light shooting, so that's not very important to me. But all the physical buttons and touch react much faster, the Hero 10 had to much lag when trying to adjust almost any of the settings. The Hero 12 seems very nice, but I'm not sure whether I will get it, or not. I might just stick with the Action 4 full time. Great video, and thanks for sharing Rob.
for low light tests, have you tried to fix the shutter speed? It usually helps with the X3 and maybe will help with the shaky images created with the RockSteady enabled.
hi rob always a cool video. question when you make a movie on the gopro you also can make a photo from a Sequenz. but how can i do that on the action 4? i see nothing in the app to make a photo from a movie sequenz. thanks for your help
If dji act 4 use gimbal, would it more stable for low light?
can the poor low light performance be the result of sharpening, de-noiseing and stabilisation? can u do the same test with everything turned off?
Love your bike, looking forward to a video about it!😁👍
You’d be the only one watching it😅
@@RobHK I truly don’t think I would be! What kind is it, it is a great looking bike!
@@RobHK btw I follow you for some time now and I like to compliment you, I like your reviews very much, because you truthfully point out -/+ facts!
Its a KTM Duke
Here's a low light setting you can use that will give you stabilize imaged. Manual setting. 4k 30fps and set shutter speed to 1/120. When the shutter speed is locked into 1/120, you will have stabilize image.
Can you compare it to go pro hero 12?
Supposedly the Action 4 Night Stabilization stops once you're past Rock Steady. It doesn't work with the Plus mode. Curious what settings you were on?
Recommended settings for low ligth, BUT i might have found something related to white balance which i will test again when i pick up my bike
Thank you for this review :)
I'm using a GoPro8 for my hiking channel.
Do you think I should upgrade to GoPro12 or DJI Action 4?
Hard to say, i still have to do a proper hike myself, which i will in a few weeks
Have you made a decision?
@@ezekielhadad1407 We tested DJI Action 4 and it's very good and reliable. The colors are not that vibrant but the quality is fine.
We also want to test the GoPro 12.
I see most of your bike footage is taken from your helmet cam. I’d suggest turning off stabilization and using the filming options that collect gyro data. Throw that footage into gyroflow and you should get much better quality . Note that your head naturally works as a gimbal. Mounting directly to the bike may render different results.
How scratch resistant is the osmo action 4? I’m having a hard time looking for silicone case, only online and might take a while.
Pretty actually, i tossed this amongst the gopro, one rs twin edition, batteries, cases, nd filters etc in the same compartment with sand, dry salt from the sea etc, for 2 weeks.
Still looks farly new and no scratches to the lens
For low light have you tried adjusting the shutter speed. Try a minimum of 1/200. Also, I hope DJI does NOT add creative features, I hope they just stick to building the best action camera without the gimmicks.
My mate has one and it constantly overheats and has since sent it back lol
I’m bad with names but another UA-camr did a side by side comparison between low light with and without stabilisation and the quality was a lot better without EIS, he recommends going without image stabilisation for low light recordings. I probably would have made the same mistake 😅 lots of trial and error with all these features!
I wonder if you record the low light scenes with stabilization completely off and then apply it in post using the gyro data that's in the footage if that's gonna be any better.
Worth a try👍
That's what I was thinking, I will be curious too
Shall we purchase seperate battery and charging case ? Anyone let me know
gopro can surprise you, negatively of course! Everyone has been counting on a larger sensor and less noise for years (insta360 or DJI cameras, with similar-sized matrices, did not make so much noise). They did a clean job of updating the software and repainting the casing... what is important is the quality during the day, but everyone who lives in Central Europe knows that clouds are enough (and if you are in the forest, that's it) and iso at a speed of at least 1/100 (necessary for good stabilization work) starts to be high, and here GoPro loses terribly.
Thanks for the review, minor question why don't you film at 4k60fps for bike runs?
Only reason is my project timeline, if i use 60 i will have jitters all over when i ride unless i slow it down
expecting outdoor test for the Wind Noise Reduction updated in the new fireware features😎Hope there will be a comparison demenstration
I will have one tomorrow on my bike👍 comparison will follow
I care a lot about the photo mode, but it hardly appears in the reviews. GoPro has 27 MP and DJI 10. and I wonder if the 10 MP includes dewarp... GoPro would also have more photo mode options. DJI wouldn't have an interval function, only a self-timer for 1 photo at a time? but does the DJI also benefit from the large sensor in photo mode?
Furthermore, it seems that DJI has less distortion when filming in wide lens settings compared to GoPro. that's worth something too.
The minimum focus distance for action 4 is 0.4M...will it be hard to focus on a near object?
Depends on how near, i did a test few weeks ago, not sure where it went tho, but 60/70cm away it was doing good
The 13 will HAVE to have a bigger sensor won't it? Might just skip the 12, and last year's 11.
Can’t see why it shouldn’t
Finally someone tells the truth about the action 4. I sent mine back cause of the jitter in the footage with an ND filter. GoPro is better with nd filters. The GoPro is still more superior
Looks like 30fps looks more natural than 25fps. We only follow the 25fps since the "user interface" is recommending the 25fps for 50Hz (not entirely sure what this means)
The closer to 60p the more «lively» videos look. But i prefer 30 since i use it with my main camera/drones
Some countries like Aus , TV's / screens run 50hz so 25 is in multiple ratio. Diff fps it add/ drop frames in editing.
it's funny that no matter what camera you talk about, it always ends with the X3 😂
Ikr!😅 I can’t help how amazing this 360 camera is!
Can i used underwater without a water case?
Yes
@@RobHK Thank you
Let’s face it both suck at low light, one less than the other. Personally I want to use an action camera in the day. I want clear images and stabilisation without jitter which the DJI exhibits
so you got 1 hour 50 min from 1 battery out of 3 batteries OR you mean 1 hour 50 min from all 3 batteries combined???
1 50 from 1 battery
@@RobHK thanks for your response!!
how much recording time do you get when recording in 4k60fps from a single battery!
comment for the algo, cheers!
The motorbike shots look better with the GoPro, as the Action 4 lens is too wide, the roadway right in front of you fills the frame and the landscape elements on the horizon appear way too far and small, when you pass the houses they look very distorted. Also the camera points too low. the Hero offers a better, more cinematic perspective (I have both the Hero 11 and the Action 2, def prefer the perspective from the GoPro).
Also DJI file size is double of the GoPro, without providing better image quality. Especially at 4K 60fps.
The better low light performance is useless when there are those jitters and stutter artifacts when moving. I'd rather have grainy footage than some stabilization or rolling shutter jitter.
The Hero 12 is a bit disappointing, but still the Hero 10 and up have some advantages over the DJI. The Hero 10 at US $249 is the best deal.
5:45 no way. The insta360 is actually clear
Of course
That micro jitters are terrible, it makes the footage completely unusable. That's the main reason why I sold my Action 3 and won't buy 4.
It’s a huge issue on a camera. Make the DJI a hard no. GoPro has better image and stabilisation
QS modes, magnetic mount, D-LOG.M, Fast Charging, Reliability …
No need to say more! OA4 is the better choice
