It just boggles my mind that the last 5 years or so they all of a sudden have forgotten they have full wet race tires. People are sliding around on inters and they postpone the race because it's too wet. Make it mandatory to start on full wets and continue the race!
They know this. But i believe part of it is they are alot slower and offer less data for the setup. And also they may be saving them as much as possible if they expect the quali and race will be wet.
@@Bobby11 well let me not just in this free practice session I just mean in general. A lot of races have been red flagged because of too much rain and it's only because everyone tries to run on inters when it's clearly too much
Its because of the cars. The diffusers on these cars blow too much water up and make it impossible to see if it's more than just 'wet', so it's not safe to drive even if the wet tyres make it possible for one driver to race.
The ground effect cars create a very low pressure zone underneath the whole car, this creates such enormous spray, much more compared to the last gen cars…its impssible to race
If there is enough water to need full wet’s, that means there is too much water on the track and the spray/standing water is what red flags the race.
Basically you want Canada 2011 again? A long race with changeable weather and unpredictable strategies. Maybe Oscar Piastri wins his first race for McLaren like Jenson Button did, basically out of nowhere creating a great spectacle.
Well I wouldn't say out of no where he came second last race haha
I wouldnt say no lol
That is my all-time favourite race.
The true "out of nowhere" winner would be Logan Sargeant... He and Zhou are the only ones to still have 0pts, right?
@@MasterTramsUA-cam Bottas also still on zero.
I was sitting in the first corner grandstand and they had to evacuate us. There and there was a huge thunderstorm and hail.
"personally" - ok
Sounds like perfect weather for inters :p
evacute cause of thunder? what? :)
removing the personally i see lol
@@saintetienne755 Lool I personally saw it too, dont worry.
What usually makes for a good race is one that is both wet and dry. Where the rain is unpredictable and you end up with racers on several different tires and strategies.
Canadian grass - it looks dry until you step on and sink into it
Absolutely. Far too many people have learned this the hard way.
Thank you, and it was having at some points so they where def never going out on time
Right into a groundhog’s living room
The full wets issue reminds me of the 2020 or 2021 Monaco race with Brundle being upset about the race not starting with literal oceans on track and the Spa fiasco where EVERY DRIVER besides P1 said on radio they couldn't see anything. The problem isn't the damn rain, it's the spray and subsequent visibility. How hard is that to understand?
There's so many onboard examples of how you literally can't see the rain lights of the car in front even when they're within a 10 meter distance from each other, and people just want them to go racing on full wets. If the track requires full wets, there'll be no visilibity conditions for racing to occur with the current F1 cars. This issue comes up every single year and people still can't wrap their heads around that concept.
I have said it before, and I'll say it again. People who advocate for a race to start when they know nobody besides P1 is gonna see shit don't wanna watch racing. They want to watch a very expensive and very dangerous destruction derby.
Well said 👏
2022 or 2016 were the wet Monaco races I beliwve
Exactly. The same folk would shit themselves at the performance of an F4 car in the dry. There have been enough deaths in Motorsport over the years I've been watching it. We don't need any more and putting the drivers further at risk is idiotic.

No inters on a dry track may exist as a rule to stop people from running on inters in Dry Qualifying. If top teams could run inters in q1, they just night try it to save a set of drys. On a cold low grip track, it might work quite well.
Thanks!
Tommy thinking of the wrong corner for Vettel Vs Hamilton. That was at the right left just after T2. Matt talking about the chicane just before the mini straight before the hairpin onto the back straight
tbf to Tommy the grass is new there at T8 so it makes sense why he thought it was T3
a.k.a. chicane before Kubica corner
Wasn't he talking about Vettel/Button in 2011 when Button overtook him on the last lap after he ran wide at turn 6?
Wrong battle. Think back to the final lap of 2011.

Do we get a "PROBLEMS FOR FERRARI" thumbnail now?! 😂
I think the rule with the wet tires during a dry session is also to prevent teams from getting around tire allocation rules as well.
The blocking this fp2 was crazy from the ferraris and Lewis Hamilton
What?
ham didn't block anyone kid. he was the one getting blocked

This is good, rains means, more unexpected moments unless FIA keep putting red flags over little rain
i bet they will keep a red flag for too long if theres rain in Sunday
If only they had wet tires, oh wait.
@@mrbungle3310 I think that a safetycar start is more probable than a red flag
Bernd maylander is going to win the race.
@@Sheamu5 The problem is, if the wet tire is good enough that means the visibility is bad enough to warrant a red flag. The cars just blow too much spray.
I think Alpine are aware that Doohans F2 campaign was compromised by bad luck and see past the championship finish. Rookie season he was taken out behind safety car while 2nd, clutch failure on pole, wheels not put on correctly in Abu Dhabi all in feature races he could have won. Then second season he had the chassis issue in the first half and was best driver once they changed it and worked up to 3rd.
I don't think anything he's done in F2 is relevant to Alpine's evaluation of him. He has been testing for them a lot. They know what they need to know about him. I think he has a very good shot at landing this seat...if Ocon goes to Haas, Bottas goes to Williams, and Sainz goes to Sauber/Audi, OR if Sainz goes to Williams, Ocon goes to Sauber/Audi, and Bottas goes to Haas.
The fact that Jack Doohan is doing the FP1 at the next race after Ocon caused embarrassment to the team through his Monaco GP race incident is a big statement. The fact Jack Doohan was in the commentary box during a practice session was an even bigger statement. Jack Doohan presents a good image for the team, and sticking to the script and being fast is what the Alpine CEO and team principal want now. Doohan can have way more FP1 sessions for the rest of the year instead of Ocon. Alpine team boss made a statement at Monaco GP, and he is following through. The Alpine team boss doesn't care if Ocon gets a seat in F1 for next year. Doohan will get the seat next year.
Also the testing and sim work he has been doing is a good way for Alpine to evaluate him without those confounding factors. Apparently he did a 9-hour(!) stint in the sim before Monaco that helped the team to get into Q3 in quali and eventually score those points.
Ye and really besides him the only Real choice is Theo pourchaire if you wanna stick with the French lineup but losing out a nother driver would be not in there intresssr
Man I've never wanted Ferrari to lose so much than after listening to Matt ramble around leclerc. The delulu levels are now in space...😅
Yes, all the passion is changed into fanboy, but than with🤤
The rule should be that a rookie needs to set like 50 laps in each car in FP1 sessions throughout the year. That should not count as 1/2 done for Doohan
The only thing I'm saying is "NO ONE IS INVINCIBLE", look at Merc. So maybe it really IS a championship battle.
I was wondering about the tire penalty on leclerc too, as to why it exists. Teams could throw on inters during practice to burn up as a free set of tires. If you knew you wouldnt need them, you could get *some* data burning some laps on them.
Glad they just got a fine though. When i considered that possible advantage, which doesnt apply here, i thought a sporting penalty was possible.
16:03 hahaha say what? 😂😂 🌧️ 🏎️
This is my first live race and they closed the metro from running to the track before FP1
This posted 36 seconds ago. That is longer than the cars were on track.
Villneuve was great. Max starting on fire was cool.
Love your show
Loving the beard, its entering a Die Hard Hans Gruber level. Nice.
Require each team to have a rooky 3rd driver, which mandatorily takes the place off the titled driver in case these are required to sit out (medical, lisence points or other). Additionally, these should replace each titled driver at least once in the season (with some sort off reverse order draft for the reces, so they are nicely spread out).
The thing about the rule with wet tyres si to avoid teams using wets or inters in dry conditions, so they can run their tests while not using up the dry tires for the rest of the weekend
Tommy with the Nado P1, Jorge P2, and the Canadian Wunderkind P3. As a Russell fan I’ll take that.
Need Dry Quali for the Parc Ferme (spelling) and then wet for the race for max excitement. (Maximum, not Max the f1 driver.)
Max had electrical (ERS) problems. Before that, he drove through the swimming pool.
As far as my understandings of water vs electrical goes, the two could be related.
Here after Q2 😂😂😂😂
first thing I did too :-DDD
Someone check on Matt......
Yeah. A clean sweep for Ferrari if it is bone dry. That comment didn't age well. Both Ferrari didn't even make it past Q2.
While I agree With Jacques about Riccirado, you can't say that when he did the same thing when he was in F1.
The no wet tires in a dry session is so that teams can't use a wet tire to save a tire they want for later. If you want proof of why they dont allow it, watch F1 sim league racing, they do it all the time in Q1.
I'm saying it: redbull are gonna pull a ferrari 2022 masterclass this year
Please Leclerc, win!!!!!!!!!!
I think the tire rules are to prevent say, drivers going out in fp1 in bahrain on inters so they can save their tires for fp2 and quali which are more representative sessions because it's a night race.
The new curbs obviously weren’t well designed as they trap the water on the track
I am also rooting for a dry session as I will be there, lol. Sitting by the big hairpin
Tommy, Vettel cut turn 3...the new swimming pool is at the chicane after the first DRS zone, turn 8(?).
Montreal: "I hope you don't mind a bit of rain..."

CHAMPIONSHIP BACK ON
I remember last year in practice in qualifying Ferrari were blocking people at that chicane too. It really is just a typical Ferrari thing at this point.
We love rain
Guys, have you considered going live on YT too? At least that way we can sync you guys as YT streaming has scrubbing
No max will get pole and win by 45 seconds ahead of his teammate in 2nd place.
a lot of problems on track with rain (and hail)
and a lot of problems off track with fans were sent away by police and announcing that practice has been cancelled...
looking forward for mixed results in quali ,
and possibly a chaotic weekend, if these rains persist over the weekend...
Good result for Williams in the wet conditions, both drivers around 10th position in PRACTICE 2. My crazy prodiction Alix Alborn to score points again and L Sargent to be just outside the points
The Vettle corner should now be called the lagoon.
I think they need to change inters to be more slick, and then wet be halfway between current inters and wet
nahh just the floor/diffuser height, the amount of spray created is too much :(
It is simple to solve the 'but they won't have to pit if they are inters while those on slicks will have to pit'. Just put it in the rules that no matter what the conditions or tyres chosen, you have to do at least one pit stop. Even if you are changing to the same tyre if you are on Inters. 99% of the time you will be at a disadvantage starting on Inters anyway as as soon as the track starts to dry the slicks will be faster. The only advantage Inters would have is if the track actually got wetter but even if that happens if the tyres compounds were right they would have to go in for wets anyway, unless you have a case like a couple of years ago where even in a monsoon the Inters were better than the full wets lol.
I mean the race itself wont be fully wet from what ive seen its more what tommy said abt drying tracks and very changing conditions.
17:35 so basically we need another canada 2011. there made it short for u fam😏
Thats not the Vettel corner... thats turn 4... i mean if by cutting across he is referring to the 5 second penalty
Unless did he do something at turn 8 as well
He's referring to Vettel vs. Button on the last lap of 2011.
@@StreetWarrior24 well that's turn 5/6... if you recall betel went straight, button turns left...
I never knew that you was not allowed to use wet tyres on a dry track
I think the reason for the rule that they have to declare a session as a wet session is based on the fact that the inters work better when they have the first layer scrapped off. The rule prevents that teams just do unnecessary runs on inters at the beginning of the weekend
Wanna know the angryest thing? Fan being in the lineup were told by Montreal Police, that the free parctice were cancelled and turned people around at the bridge. They refused to let people board the subway, telling people that the day was cancelled. Imagine the police deciding that they were cancelling a F1 practice session. lots of people tho like me i was like screw it, i'm sticking there whatever happen. so grandstand for fp1 were pretty much empty as lots of people missed it
1:52 Will we have Turkey 2020 all over again? 🤔
Will Esteban help Piere in qualifying?A tow to get some extra tenths

Not sure what you're on about.
Montreal is and always will be exciting.
We need a race were both the Inters and the Drys are in play.
Esteban “5 sec penalty” Ocon? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was absolutely destroyed by hail and my socks got completely wet lmao
I don't know the penalty, but the FIA also has to declare the track wet to use the intermediates or full wets.
It depends which (most used?) tyres have to be returned by the end of the session.
If Lerclercq would continue to run intermediates when it's spitting but the track is not declared wet, he would have a tyre advantage during the race.
Basically, session started at xx:00, and it was raining then. Track was declared wet at xx:05. Leclerc made the mistake of putting intermediates on at xx:03.
@@MasterTramsUA-cam don't say he was wrong 😊
Just wanted to react to the question and the bizarre FIA "will be investigated after the race" and a potential scenario if it would just be spitting rain.
Watch Max getting pole and leading every lap in the race
If stroll gets a podium I’ll sell my car collection. Hell nah bro 😂😂😂😂😂
The wall of champions is calling his name.
Why does it look like the F1 calendar keeps following rain
Isn't the rule around using inters on a dry track about minimising wasted tyres to reduce emissions? At least that was my first thought
Wonder if the RB development is starting to show the lack of Newey input? Or is it too soon?
I’m hoping for a dry race or we won’t get a race. F1 and the FIA are absolutely against letting these cars run in wet conditions
Look at the twinkle in the eye of our boy Matt, Forza Ferrari
9:40 "will redbull be slow in the race if it rains?"
Matt says Grand Prix the exact same way for every intro.
Seeing the splash reinforces my conviction that water pools would make better, safer and more cost effective run-off/crash sections..
Also, wtf is going on with all these tracks being unable to evacuate the water of the surface? Just put camber or a slope on the track to allow it to run off..
Just what is the point of wet-weather tires anymore?
These usually help my fantasy predictions, but today I walked away with nothing😅
Apparently most Canadian fans who bought the ticket for the race where turned away by the police saying FP1 AND FP2 were canceled
starting the session on bad conditions is purely financial. since the session techincally started the audience can not ask for reimbursement since they "got their moneys worth" and the requierements are delivered"
What happens on Friday stays on Friday 😂
Try playback speed at 1,5: Matt sounds funny, Tommy sounds normal!

12:23 it’s not slander if he’s right…
last 3 years of DR's career yes, hes been bad. I found it just weirdly disrespectful that he discredited his whole career though, said him outperforming vettel didnt count basically, beating max didnt count, and then said hes never outperformed anyone ever again, which is an outright LIE when he wiped the floor with both ocon and hulkenberg... Sure, slander current DR, thats completely 100% fair, but to discredit his whole career is straight stupidity, you dont win 8 f1 races by chance. Jacques himself has only won 3 more races, and has called DR's career overrated. Stupid, hateful comments diminishing a great career and making false claims.
@@bigdawg44444 Jacques is a champion, DR is not, doesn’t matter 3 more races. And is hulkenberg and ocon really the bar you wanna set for DR?? If yes then he’s a midfield driver, but if you consider him a top driver then beating hulk and ocon shouldn’t be that big of a deal. But getting beaten by youngsters - Max, Lando, Yuki - is a huge deal.
@@juggadaaku4219 mate I’m just pointing out his blatant lies, hulkenberg and Ocon haven’t achieved much in f1 but still are quick drivers, that’s why they’ve been around for multiple years. I pointed how how he comprehensively beat both of them, so yes I would say that is a pretty damn good bar for his Renault years, especially since he got podiums with that car. It’s sad with DR, everyone slandering away his career because of recency, I’ve said it and I’ll say it again I agree he’s been bad these past few years, but shitting on his whole career and lying in the process is just embarrassing.
@@juggadaaku4219 and hulk and Ocon are only midfield drivers because of there cars, anyone in a top car will not be considered a midfield driver, because in modern F1 the car is enough to do the work for you, even when skill is lacking, look at checo, averaged 3 tenths behind max in quali pace but still gets podiums. And yuki doesn’t count as a “young” driver anymore, he’s quite experienced now and in terms of pure skill I’d put him easily within the top 10 drivers on the grid, lando a top 3 at that too, and max is literally one of the most talented drivers of all time. Should DR have beaten lando at mclaren, yes, we all know that, should DR be beating yuki right now? If he wants the seat at red bull definitely, but it’s clear yuki is very very damn quick. It’s clear he’s not quick enough for the Red Bull seat, but let’s stop acting like yuki is slow, because he’s not, he’s very very damn fast.
@@bigdawg44444 who said Yuki is slow lol? He’s mopping the floor with Danny. All I hear are excuses from the DR stans. At the end of the day facts don’t care about feelings. VCARB themselves said that DR’s seat is not just deep in his performance because he brings a lot of sponsor money.
wouldnt it be great if they added an extra session of practice on a thursday, and ONLY reserve car drivers can drive the car. On 2nd thoughts, i dont want it to take away from the team drivers practice sessions but still would be cool.
I'd go even further, let a backup driver race 1 race a year
